I own the mini golden’s cast iron cooker. I like it a lot. I’d love to have the big one. The mini is extremely heavy! I think they are great. The Weber kettle lid actually ‘feels’ hotter than the cast iron lid.

A mate and I bought one each a year ago after some extensive research…bloody incredible unit. From 10+ hour slow cooking to searing meat, this thing is beauty. I have since added a swinging grate stacker to double the cooking area and a Smartfire airflow controller. No fear of breaking the Goldens and I have found the cast iron is easy to maintain. A kick-ash basket is next to be added. Simple, effective and reliable.

Oh man!! Amazing feedback! Thanks so much for the comment! We are happy to hear from someone who actually owns and cooks on it! Thanks for watching!

@@embersliving, it wasn't all smooth sailing though as I almost got a hernia lifting it through the garage to the yard with a mate. Heavy and bomb proof. The spring is incredible and looks like it will last for years. I also added a SmokeWare Vented Chimney Cap for those drizzly days. Some BGE and KJ accessories fit if you feel like adding some stainless steel. With regards to rust, nothing inside following the seasoning process. However, the mate's unit arrived with a scratch on the outside and the guys that sell them in Australia bent over backwards to send us items to repair. Matching brake spray paint and life was back to normal. So, I can also vouch for the support side even though we are in another state. Lastly, my guests are impressed with both the unit and the final product when it hits the table. 👍

Which Kick Ash basket did you pick up? They don’t make one specifically for the Goldens’? And what size Smokeware vent top? Mine doesn’t stay in place super well. I currently use a stack of magnets.

@@thezach3100, by the way, my Smokeware vent moves around also. Still works well though!

I found a guy online who’s selling an antique imperial Kamado. First I’ve heard of cast iron Kamado Dang. So what’s ideal for me? Kamado Joe? Weber Sumit Kamado? Or a solid cast iron? What’s better? Ceramic? Double insulated stainless steel? Or Solid Cast Iron?
@embersliving2 жыл бұрын
I guess preference honestly. I'd go with the ceramic

I've owned this cooker for about a year now and still love it. The big difference between these and other kamados I've cooked on is that I never have to worry the lid being misaligned or cracking. I wanted something bigger than 18" but didn't want to pay for the 24" options so this 20.5" is perfect for me and the family!

Does the cast iron dome radiate heat down as well as a ceramic dome? This is crucial for things like pizza.

yes I would say even more so

Thanks for the video. I had almost made my mind up on a Kamado Joe Big Joe III, but this got me thinking. Have you compared the cooking to the Kamado Joe yet? If so, which is preferred by you?

Cast iron kamado style cookers aren't new. I have a Cook'N'Kettle that was cast in 1959 and it cooks amazingly.

This is definitely a kamado you should never need to do a warranty claim. My only concern on this kamado is and I know you mentioned there’s a patent on the hinge. At some point in time just with normal use any spring will fail at some point. I wonder how hard it is to replace those springs on it. Because without 2 working springs you will need some of their weights to lift that lid. I’d habe to think that lid alone is 100 lbs. But I will say there are cast iron skillets that are over 100 years old that work as good or even better than any new skillet. Cast iron is the only cooking material that seems to get better with time when using them.

I bought the 22.5 inch, it came covered with oil. I washed off the oil and did the initial burn to season the grates. In the morning I noticed hand prints in the paint. Called costumer service, they were great! Said to send pictures. Didn’t hear back. Sent another message, they pretty much blew me off. There’s catastrophic paint issues and a weld on the handle cane apart, there’s bubbles on the handles it’s really bad. Beware. If I had it to do over again I would get the kamado Joe.

I have the same issue with paintwork- it's just not hard enough, should be properly powder coated. Other than that I'm happy over last 2 or 3 years with this beast. I don't regret buying it for sure. Remember ceramic kamados aren't perfect neither and even with surface rust this kamado will last ages.
