It's a fish case of phantom pregnancy, her body believes she's producing but not causing belly to swell- leaving water retention.. also poly cystic ovarian cysts form..maybe she was at the end of her reproductive cycles and somting went wrong..I seen this in a koi and her owner tried to save her, but when they opened the ovaries were sadly messed up.

I had three lovely little Goldie's for a few years, named them Angelica, Eliza and Peggy. Eliza was the last one to die by nearly a year. She got dropsy and I was freaked out cuz I'd never dealt with it before. Put her in some epsom salt, she had a great big poo and the bloat went right down. Started giving her peas and broccoli and she was fine!

I saw another KZbin with goldfish and one of them had the same problem and after a few days of squeezing the fluid out, whilst squeezing all of a sudden 3 eggs popped out. After that the fish was fine and didn't get bloated again.

Poor sweetheart 😢 I’ve kept goldfish for years, and it’s always been my experience that when they get dropsy, it’s the beginning of the end, I’ve never had one recover from it, no matter how many treatments I tried, but that was some years ago, maybe they came up with a more successful treatment. That is called swim bladder disease, and if not treated right away it can become permanent, and this disease happens when the fish eats too much, and doesn’t process its food right away. I had a few fish with this bladder problem, just keep a close eye out and she should be fine.
