Never float them, never leave them in that water with bag opened. Floating them in the bag on the pond or aquarium surface is not good for their head or health, ammonia levels will rise quickly giving your delivered goldfish a painful fin burn. Their fins will suffer from ammonia spike rise and become dizzy, goldfish in a shipped bag will pee and poop during many days of being shipped and handled. The safe and modern 2020 way to unbox 1. Cut open box 2. Have a small water bowl with water conditioner and air pump running ready 3. Soon as you cut open the bag, you must act quick. Because the goldfish will suffocate, if you leave it in the ammonia pee water bag 4. Use your palm to grab the goldfish gently but also fast, and put it into the conditioned water tub with air pump running. Leave it for 2 mins max. 5. After 2 mins have past, you can just pour the goldfish and water gently into pond or aquarium, this is not the same water from the bag.

Oh ok. Where did this practice come from? And how much ammonia is expected to accumulate in the solution for overnight shipment? And why would ammonia level rise when you float them? Have all of these steps been proven to significantly improve outcomes? (sorry my medical training kicked in, lol)

@@TracMcNguyen from what I've researched the bag is filled with co2 rather than oxygen when being shipped. The co2 lowers the pH of water inside bag, making ammonia non toxic to goldfish. Opening the bag from shipping releases the co2, oxygen enters elevating the pH of the water making ammonia spike drastically. You're probably lucky that the ammonia in the bag isn't as high after it was shipped, if it was then they would have ammonia burns even if it was just opened for 30 mins.

@@TracMcNguyen When you open the bag, you release all the Co2 and the oxygen enters. This raises the pH, which makes the ammonia more toxic as ammonia is much more toxic at high pH levels. Once the bag is opened, the fish need to come out ASAP. Floating them is fine, but you do not OPEN the bag until you are ready to remove the fish.

Was the shipping smooth? I have nightmares about fedex and those companies, so I’m afraid the fish would die during shipping. These companies are always a hassle to deal with. Could you tell me how your experience was?

I know I’m a bit late to this video but I’m thinking about buying a Ranchu goldfish off of their website and I’m wondering if I should pay the extra $10 for free two day shipping or the extra $60 for standard shipping

I really think that depends on where you from their shopping location, current climate, and how much you like the fish. For me because these were quite precious to me I didn't want to take any chances and had them ship them fast. I've had goldfish that were lost in shipment for over a week but somehow managed to survived, but those were inexpensive babies. I think kingkoi packaged things extremely well so the risk of them dying was quite low. But again they were precious to me so 🛫.

They only shipped on certain days to make sure the fishies don't get stuck in the weekends. For me, I think it was several days before it shipped. The actually transit time was less than 24 hrs I think
