I saw this in the movie theater with my mother when it came out. “I dee and doe”: I had never seen my mother laugh so hard in my life. I love this scene and will never forget my mother cracking up. This movie will always give me fond memories.

Thanks for the post!! "I dee endoe" continues to be a catchphrase in our household, whenever someone is unable to be understood. That's the great scene-stealing character actor Richard Libertini conducting the ceremony. He also played Fletch's boss, and the soul-transfering mystic in Steve Martin's "All of Me." (Put Edwina back-in-bowl, back-in-bowl) The guy's a total crack-up.

These people of foreign origin,with their BROKEN English!(Hispanics, Asian origin people, etc.)They are SO hard to understand, as a result! I guess it was out of the question for the justice of the peace minister to show Richard and Paula the words?(Ha,ha!)That way,they would have understood-"I THEE ENDOW."(the ow pronounced like the exclamation of pain, and the combination th does not exist in Spanish.)Yes, I'm just being silly; that was where the humor of this scene comes in.
