WARNING: At 2:25 our host mentions the " airspeed tape on the left". Beware, this indication is GPS ground speed. In a very strong tail wind condition this statement could lead to an aircraft stall since the airspeed could be very low indeed. Beware.
@dougharvey28396 жыл бұрын
Great video, but a minor point - speed tape on the left is ground speed not air speed. Pilots could get themselves in trouble treating GS as AS. There is no way for a GPS-based device to know airspeed.
@MargaretLeber3 жыл бұрын
Point well-taken. More modern avionics might include data from an ADAHARS which would include airspeed, but this was made in 2017; such equipment was rare then.

WOW... Nice video.... I was right on the hump to purchase one of these things... Now I know I am purchasing one of them... Even if it is used for backup only, it is worth it... But I see it as a Primary Tool. Thanks for Sharing the Synthetic Vision,That is one part that is missing from so many others.

I have Foreflight Pro/Stratus 3 to go along with my 2007 T182 -G1000. And it is similar and a very good value. But it's not the same obviously. Most aviators know the pros and cons. However, I use it whenever I can for the ADS-B traffic and flight planning. It beats out my TIS. Love it! Good video. Oh yeah...Beware of overheating with iPad and Stratus on hot/sunny days. Mostly iPad... It's happened to me a few times, but careful handling and you can avoid for most part. Thumbs up! Lastly, someday...I think we'll have an inexpensive real time view of terrain, especially viewable night/IMC conditions....someday.

Still waiting for Foreflight to provide a simplified inverted green screen so that it could be reflected off a transparent phosphorus coated screen for economical HUD
@sparkie9513 жыл бұрын
That would be a great idea, but the only issue with that would be data entry and control, but at the same time it will support 5 WIFI devices, so you could have more than 1 device.

I just downloaded the synthetic version but I have my iPhone with me. I don’t see any function to bring it up. Does this only work with an iPad? The other question I have is how do you even access it and what is it used to support what is showing?

Does foreflight connect to the plane?
@delschier14194 жыл бұрын
I hope I never have to use it but as an instrument trained VFR pilot I believe it might be able to save me if I get stuck on top of a cloud layer. BTW in 1200 hrs of of flying this has never happened. A safe way to get familiar with the Foreflight Synthetic Vision is to connect your iPad to the X-Plane simulator and set a ~1000' AGL cloud layer and see if you can land the virtual airplane. What I haven't tried is doing a approach under a hood with another pilot.

Exactly what I was thinking... I remember a long time ago as a Student, that I got trapped on a Cross Country flight inside of a Thunderstorm, Scared the ... (Well you know). I should have known something would go wrong when Flight service back in day said: "It will be a Great Day for a Cross Country Solo".... that should have been my first warning.. LOL I made it back fine, but was still kind of nervous on final! My flight instructor was on the ground on pins and needles.

Anybody use this on their IPhone ? I’m currently in training (12 hours so far) and haven’t used the app while in flight yet. I do like the track logging and logbook feature for after flight. Just wondering how it looks on the iPhone in flight.

You need a Stratus or similar with an AHRS
@ChadDidNothingWrong4 жыл бұрын
This needs an augmented reality variant. Just trace hazards, terrain, and roads/runways as wireframe over your real vision via glasses to use in IMC.
@coolhari20005 жыл бұрын
Is the AHRS data accurate ? You're getting 1400 ftpm with less than 5* pitch ?

I would disagree with keeping airspeed up in case of an engine failure. You need altitude.
@GoldSealFlight5 жыл бұрын
Best glide airspeed is always the proper choice except in certain unusual circumstances.
@davidt78555 жыл бұрын
@@GoldSealFlight I am commenting on the statement at about 3:10 where you say "I'm keeping my airspeed up." I strongly disagree with that. I am getting as much altitude as I can at best rate of climb. That will give me the most options in case of an engine failure. It is also closer to best glide speed. The scenario presented was not AFTER an engine failure, but the best way to increase your options in case of an engine failure during departure from the airport. Also, the statement that there is an "airspeed" tape is dangerously misleading. It can be used as a substitute in case your airspeed indicator fails, but if you do not take the winds into account, and if they are significant, you can get into trouble. Pilots must have a clear understanding that the tape in the Foreflight synthetic vision is NOT airspeed.
