Goldstein Investigates: Metro Proposes Plans To Spend $200K On Saunas And Steam Rooms

While the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority struggles to replace buses that broke down and caught fire because of a lack of money, the agency is proposing spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on steam and sauna rooms in a fitness center used by its employees.

All employees don't, but higher level management does. That's why it's in the basement of the headquarters building where most MTA employees rarely go. They said it's only used by about 120 people a day while it's technically allowed for all employees, if it started getting overrun by rank and file employees and the CEO had to wait for his steam, they would restrict that workout room to people in that building and install cheap substandard workout rooms at the bus yards. Something like a jump rope and a chin up bar in a door jamb.

While sauna rooms may be too far, the problem with transit is underfunding, not solely or necessarily misuse of funds. People have no problem driving to the grocery store, pumping more toxins into our air, but will complain when an agency that is working to make LA cleaner and more liveable admittedly can't deliver reliable service. I'm a native Angeleno and the disdain for public transit that permeates in this city is shameful.
