That's the problem with Eurogames: there are very few themes that match the mechanics and the majority of said mechanics are the same thing...moving junk around to score crap. There are exceptions out there, but they are becoming more and more rare.

This is not an easy game to love. I confess I was starting to glaze over while you described the game play. I, too, love a good Euro but I agree that there needs to be new tings introduced or it is just too easy to compare new games to older titles with similar mechanisms. Heck, I still enjoy Tzolkin because it just nailed it all those years ago.

Great video as always. Was really intrigued by this when it was announced, but scraping away all that delicious Golem make-up, came to the conclusion of it being a rather dry euro. So back on the 'to sell' pile with this one. Keep up the great work and don't stumble on those stair steps!

Nice and honest review, you saved me quite some money there. Golem is such a game that had my interest, but if it's mainly a rehash of thing you have seen before, i think I better skip this.That is not the game's fault, it is due to the fact that I just know a lot of games. This game, after being played, would go on the shelf again for 3 years I am afraid, with the notion of 'a good game, but not remarkable' or a similar feeling. I have come to the point that when I buy a game it should be quite unique, to avoid the 'been there, done that' syndrome. That is the plague of so many games nowadays.

well a Euro is a Euro. Golem is a great game, if you liked (I know you haven't cause you said multiple times) Paladins of the west Kingdom, and Grand Austria Hotel, this is certainly your cup of tea. The problem of the "same mechanics" repeated over, depends by the amount of Euro games that are getting published every year, and that should make us reflect on how the industry is becoming unsustainable and companies shutting down. However I still consider Golem as an 8 for me (for reference my vote for Barrage is 9, for Grand Austria Hotel is 7, for Paladins is 7.5, Tiletum is 8, Nucleum 8.5), cause the theme is unique, the game, as i said is great, but I also am aware this is due to get lower as more Track based euros will be released. I will still suggest to give it a go if you like euros, cause its worth the experience

I’ve played GAH and it’s great. You’re right though…we should expect a crash in the industry soon. Too many mediocre games being released these days. Golden age is over.

Over the weeks and years you have served up many SLEUGS of immense crappiness but I think you have outdone yourself here. Playing this would represent cruel torture, cognitive assault and synaesthetic eyeball mauling. Yeah, yeah I will add the obligatory “if you like this sort of thing” but if you do I would be secretly suspecting you of being a badly disguised Vogon without the poetic talent. Only 500 or less to go, though for the 20K subs milestone.

The first few videos I watched on your channel, I failed to see the second degree and basically labeled you as a crazy madman (yeah I know these terms are redundant, but that’s how strong I felt!). I’ve seen the light since and appreciate your style a lot. I love channels like Gaming rules, but “we happen to ejaculate all over this dross from time to time”? I think I needed that this morning (having a laugh I mean, not the getting it all out part!) And I’m happy you didn’t completely trash a game I asked for Christmas! I still have a limited collection so I shouldn’t feel like it’s too much like what I already have.

Golem is literally just a poor interpretation of Grand Austria Hotel dice drafting. Its not worth the time of day.
@BoardGameBollocks10 ай бұрын
There’s no dice or drafting (save for the start tiles)
@admscotty70410 ай бұрын
@@BoardGameBollocks Yes of course there is no dice. But it is the same mechanism with replacement pieces. You do draft them, same as grand Austria Hotel. On your turn you draft 1 ball from the row and place it on your board. [GAH, Draft 1 of the available dice from the central board.] (this is open drafting) The Row the ball rolled into is equivalent to the action you perform [GAH - the value of the die 1-6 determines the action you take]. The number of times you can repeat the action is equivalent to the number of the same color balls in the row [GAH - equal to the number of dice with the same value as the one you drafted]. Literally same designer, same core mechanic reimplemented with new pieces.
@BoardGameBollocks10 ай бұрын
You don’t draft as everyone has access to all the balls. If you had say 4 balls and passed them on while receiving 4 balls then I’d agree but what you’re saying isn’t in the game.
@admscotty70410 ай бұрын
@@BoardGameBollocks You do know the difference between Closed Drafting and open drafting? What you are describing is closed drafting (similar to Magic the Gathering.) This is Open Drafting - All the balls in the center of the table - you pick one and remove it from the pool. The next person selects from what is left. Agricola (Worker placement) is Open Drafting.
