Not a single fast car is a financial good deal. The R is a better deal than a RS3. The 1.4/1.5 tfsi is a better deal than the Gti. I do agree a GTI is the better bang-for-buck car. Yet a S3, R on 17/18 inch is just as good as a daily. Yet more capable and always has grip. My S3 had an issue with haldex, so went to FWD. This made a noticable difference when using (most of) it's potential.
