Can you please explain compressor surge for a newby like myself
@AN-vt3kl2 жыл бұрын
How you get your mot done etc., after all this tuning?
@littco2 жыл бұрын
@@TheChrosty surge is when the turbo isn't able to sustain the Pressure ratios in the intake system and the boost(air) blows out back up the intake ( like a release) when the balance equalises the turbo boosts up again until the next cycle, this then sounds like a whoosh whoosh. Once the Ve of the engine is such that the air is able to consumed the surge will go. You overcome this by reducing the flow from the engine or using a compressor wheel that supports the Pressure ratios you are trying to run.
@fedjadrndarski90202 жыл бұрын
@@TheChrosty Too much boost for too low flow. In that case air goes at wrong way, instead into engine it runs away from compressor. With adequate N75 and boost map that could be resolved. Surge on high rpm could destroy turbo, because of high flow and high exhaust manifold pressure, turbo shaft, seal and compressor wheel could be destroyed. Forged compressor wheel can sustain more stress on big and hybrid turbos.

Worked with turbo technics a good few times in my line of work being a turbo engineer myself. Great work but i will say the hybrid wont need the anti surge that was fitted, the comp wheel will probs need balanced a bit better with the shaft being left stock. A slightly smaller comp wheel or even remove the anti surge and run a few mm smaller comp wheel to compensate. Wont get that bog down surge happening at 4-5k
@gaijins302 жыл бұрын
Agree 100%, similar situations were happening when the mk7 came out when comp wheels were increased in size, larger in ratio to exhaust wheel creating the surge. Prob need to move to a new frame rather than increasing turbine wheel size looking at how little meat there is between the turbine housing and the wastegate port.

you need a 4inch down pipe off the turbo will help with the surge, it's building up to much pressure. The exhaust is your restriction, the turbo is good to go for more power. Make a larger downpipe and exhaust before touching the turbo.

Do you know if the hybrid turbo has the same radial-axial technology as the stock turbo? Not sure if I missed it or if it was mentioned, but that was the big hype around the Continental turbo and how the engine was designed to take advantage of it. You can see how even tuned, the 8R here makes 600nm at 2200rpm and holds at to 5500rpm, incredible response and awesome design.
@Mac_F872 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve seen the RAAX technology helps with turbo lag and react to changes in engine load quicker. I guess both go hand in hand. Seems to be more of an efficiency thing to try and help reduce emissions first and foremost. By the sounds of it this hybrid doesn’t struggle with lag since Doug was having to hold it back in the lower rpm. Maybe this hybrid retains modified compressor design that’s why it’s causing surge.
@PapiAndrey2 жыл бұрын
@@Mac_F87 indeed, It’s Able to move the same amount of air with a smaller wheel. So with the same size wheel as an is38, It’s able to respond quicker and move more air at the same time. Precisely what you see comparing the Continental unit with the is38. I don’t know if you’ve seen what the raax technology looks like compared to a regular radial wheel, but it looks like this hybrid has a standard radial wheel without as much of a curve on the blades as the RA wheel has. But since it’s a hybrid, they would have to clip the back of the blades for it to fit because the turbo housing itself is different to a normal turbocharger housing. I would expect it to still have an advantage over a normal turbo, but the difference wouldn’t be as big compared to radial vs radial axial. I’m going to see if I can talk to turbo technics about this

hello hamza I have a 2022 model golf 8 R car. I drove my car very hard for 1 year. (track, drift, drag)Naturally there was a problem with my car. When I take off at full power, there is a vibration that starts at 70-80km/h and ends at 100-120km/h.Vibration comes directly from the rear or from the middle of the car . tires new Balanced, no dents on the rims no vibration at constant speed, it just vibrates at full power. do you have any idea about this?

Deposit going down on a golf R today …… or not! Thanks to yourself! 😅 The car is standard , the only optional extra is the black Pearl paint! No DCC or performance pack. Price is good, but every video I see tells me DCC is a no brainier . Coming from a Cupra 290 estate with DCC and 19’s , yes the ride was more comfortable but still ended up destroying 2 allows . Test drove the car and found the ride was very good. So good in fact I was glad I didn’t have the function of DCC , changing it from one setting to another was bothersome in the cupra as I always felt it had way to much roll in the comfort setting. Too hard then for Irish roads on the cupra setting.On 18’s (golf R) the ride seems perfect. With these options missing , my question is , is the golf alot less desirable, when it comes to resale? Is there anybody else out there with standard cars that can help me decide on whether to purchase now or wait ?

pretty normal. considering the turbo and all the air flow this car has with the intake downpipe and aftermarket exhaust the engine probably has a shit ton of air running through it. black smoke from a gas engine is mostly a sign of running rich and since its hella tuned it is most likely on the richer side of fuel delivery
