Golf GTI MK7 - ESC/Traction control disable - VCDS VagCom

If you have a MK7 Golf GTI and you want to fully disable stability control, you need a Ross-Tech VAG-COM cable and VCDS Software.
Byte Settings:
05 - ESC ON/ASR OFF/ESC OFF
06 - ESC ON/ESC Sport/ESC OFF
09- Stock
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect Vag-Com cable to OBD-II Port.
2. Launch VCDS Software on PC. (VCDS 15.7.1 was used at time of writing.)
3. Navigate to: Select Control Module-03 ABS Brakes-07 Coding-Long Coding Helper
4. Observe byte 29, which should be the last field within this window.
5. If Stock, Change from 09 to 05 or 06. (See Above)
6. Hit Enter. Close this window with the Red X in the top right corner.
7. Click "Do It".
8. Dismiss "Coding accepted" screen. Shut down car. Disconnect Vag-Com Cable.
9. Start Car. Press/Hold Traction off button to observe changes.

Anyone know if ASR can be disabled on a 2012 MK6 GLI via VCDS - these cars came with no button. I know I can buy/install an ASR defeat button from ECS, but I'd rather just kill ASR while leaving ECS on. Thanks!

So in order to have the least amount of ESP interaction, do I go for 5 or 6? Because from what I understand, 5 turns asr and esp off but 6 does esp only. Tx!

This didn't work on my 2016 GTI. After trying numerous codes, I could get the ASR light to say deactivated, yet traction control was still in affect.

You can buy the cable and download the software from www.ross-tech.com -- For most VW applications, you want to buy a "Micro Can" cable. You can often find these cables used online at forums such as vwvortex or audiforums.

Hey man. I went ahead and tried it, it worked on mine. After changing the byte 29 to 06 I had ESC ON/ESC Sport/ESC OFF in the infotainment display. I can also confirm it's working even if it's through the infotainment and not a physical button (there was some debates on forums). The ESC OFF in snow allows me to give gas and spin the wheels while turning whereas ESC ON/SPORT does not. Keep in mind that some of the anti-spin is bundled in the ABS system, so there's always going to be some fuckery unfortunately. ESC OFF in summer still cuts my fuel around 4-5K RPM if I gun it from 1st gear. Good luck!
