Great video Eric. You explained it perfectly. Great that you added that each one of us has to experiment for our own particular swing. It has helped me a lot as a 12 handicap golfer.

Thank you for putting this together! The overhead shots and your “feels” explanation allowed me to get my hands in front of the ball for the first time in 2 years of trying. Looking at the swings from above it looks like the same mechanics of a Trebuchet. I needed much more depth than I thought The shallowing of the club makes a huge difference in the swing path. Causes a more inside out swing. Something just “clicked” in my head. And it was easy. I was even flighting it low (unintentionally) a few times. It requires quiet wrists and a bent right elbow and an open body at impact. If wrists get involved to early the ball goes left. A slightly open club face at address also helped keep things going towards the target. The decoupling of the waist from the upper torso for proper hip movement (right hip freezes in position on backswing then left hip is pushed back as quickly as possible… think “get your left knee out of the way”) so the spine moves forward and back away from the ball is imperative on downswing. Another tip left ear dictates where bottom of swing is. So get the left ear 2 to 3 inches in front of the ball at impact. Thanks again!!!

I've been working on a swing overhaul to get back into form with a great local pro and I'm not a commenter/poster/tick tocker ;-) but after seeing EC on multiple videos, partnering with some top notch teachers (he is clearly one of them) I'm so impressed and had the urge to say something. This guy is an animal!! Perhaps it's due to me being a total feel player and his emphasis on feels over robotic techniques but this drill, overhead views (dear god would more people show these) and thought process is Amazing...I'm taking a road trip to PA pretty soon I think :-)

This vid was huge for me! I always thought I should keep the arm on the chest the entire downswing and use the body for the rotation. This cleared up 99% of my swing problem now I just have to work on the timing of letting the arms release! (Sooner and more). Thanks Eric!

I have solved my pushes and slices with your tip. I started golf with the towel under arms drill and always thought my left arm should stay with the body through out the swing as a result I had flipping, pushes and slices. I was always wondering why my shots out of the rough were long and straight. It turned out that in the rough I tried to hit hard and accelerate the club aggressively through the ball which is what you are teaching. Now I focus on accelerating my left arm fast and hard (out racing my body) and most of my shots are now straight and half or 1 club longer. I need to do a lot of drills to ingrain this feeling as the old swing tend to creep back especially on the course.

Tried this today against air (without hitting balls) and finally felt the club whip through at the bottom. My feeling was: as the bicep began to compress against the pec at the top of the backswing and the left arm was still going back, it was actually the pec going against the bicep, caused by the weight shift and change of direction of the chest that decreased the angle of pec and bicep. This created a more athletic feeling in the transition (kind of like what alot of instructors say about starting the downswing before the backswing is complete). Looking forward to trying it tomorrow while hitting balls.

Really good sequence. I feel the lead arm naturally would fly off with momentum from the hips rotating though impact. Thanks for all the support. When I can get my lead hip out of the way the ball contact is great. It's the slight transition of pressure from trail to lead leg, that I feel may be interfering with rotation through impact now and again. It's all for not if the takeaway is sub par.

Lots of moving parts in the swing for sure

Nice treatment here. ...and love those overhead videos of the swing heroes through history. One thing I am taking away here... is that as the lead arm begins it's "sooner and more" movement away from the chest through the downswing, that trail arm is going through its elbow back into the side through the turn movement...I realize this video is about the lead arm and chest...but should we be conscious of the complement of both arms as we are rehearsing this into that turn though and impact position?

Does the “Unload” happen passively from bouncing off the turning chest? Active straightening of the right arm? Frisbee with the left?
@brandonballou4573 жыл бұрын
Or a combination?
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
"Passive" is nice if you do the correct movements and it happens automatically.....but what if it doesnt? Then you need to ACTIVELY make it happen. that goes for any part of the swing.

@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric. I was experimenting with trying to get right elbow in which helps push left arm out and also helps to come from inside. I think my right arm was hitting my side and not getting out front. If this makes sense. Thanks again.
@larryc7775 Жыл бұрын
so I need to learn to turn chest at same rate as arms to stay attached on downswing-correct? Having trouble with the separation component...what happens if you don't let arm separate from chest with a resulting lower arm finish?
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hey Larry! If the golfer does not let the lead arm sling/fly off away from the chest/body on the way through impact, that would be one component that would have the hands/handle too far back at impact. That results in a higher dynamic loft (loss of distance and compression) and contact issues from the low point moving back (fats and thins). I'll link in a couple videos I think you'll enjoy checking out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bV6senqHm6eJmsU kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZSaZYlmiNl2oas

I’ve seen some gears analytics numbers show that the adduction angle of arm to chest is actually only like 75* at the top of the back swing. Can you comment on this? Meaning if 90* was arm straight out standing tall, it only compresses 15 or so degrees. There have been many sensor programs that measure this angle. This seems like something I need to do, however I’m worried I’ll collapse my arm across my chest and lose any athletic motion in doing so.

When the clubhead lags behind your hands, it's easy to swing your left arm past your body, but when you cast the clubhead, your left arm will slow down and then lag behind your body at impact ... though I admit I may be saying the same thing just a little differently.
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
No doubt

If anything, from the overhead shots, the hands may be about level, or just in front of the trail shoulder at the top of the backswing not behind. There is no view of your position from that side on top position i.e. looking at your shirt seam angle
