This is the best instruction on shallowing the club of all the videos I have ever watched. I have watched about 100 videos on this issue, and they do not really help you achieve the end result you need.. I'm not saying that there are not any good ones but the whole transition piece to it is what separates being able to execute properly, and this is the only video that clearly explains this. Mike Malaska is great.. He spoke about some of the positions and drills that other instructors teach and he is exactly right.. Those positions are static and you can't achieve the full swing just practicing those static positional movements. It's all about the full swing and transition and feel to make the swing effective. Mike Malaska has got to be one of the wisest instructors I have ever listened to.

Went to the range today and was blown away by the results. Just a natural fluid motion. Fixes my overswing, hitting it fat etc. Only variation is I like to feel my lead hand knuckles facing down at impact rather than brushing the grass feel with trail hand. What Mike is talking about at 12:30 is just what I need. I never heard it explained that way. I've been the guy that's been slowing down swings on TV, reading the golf magazines, and trying to get into static swing positions. I would learn swings that I thought were correct, but with no speed and force. I've been under the plain too much on the downswing. I'm pretty much a wasted talent. Well, better late than never to learn all this. :)

Mike Malaska has beautifully figuered out the process of momentum in the whole golf swing - the player's hands and the club head/face find the slot and timed arrival at the ball through this process of momentum - NOT in stages as such. The difference I see is at 12:26 where Mike describes the problem of getting too inside and under because of some lateral slide and too much tilt Mike teaches to overcome it with his tipping feel while Milo would generally fix the body pivot issue that caused the club to get under! Cool video 👍

6string - Dave Milo quit playing in 2008 and started teaching full time in 2009 at my home course in Utah. OMG! This was even better than I'd hoped for! Thanks for taking the time to really clarify this Eric and Mike. It's so hard to talk about feels 'in motion' yet sooo valuable and you guys did a great job here. I spent some time with the shaft tipping Malaska move/feel and, though this is probably just my own feel, I'm sharing incase it works for anyone else. So my initial misunderstanding of the 'malaska move', based on what it looks like visually made be pull the hands down at first so I got steep which was really not good. However, once I worked out how to get that shaft tipping feeling/movement without yanking on the shaft I started shallowing out the shaft big time! For me, if I can tip the shaft subtly and feel almost like the hands and club stay high like they're not going down to the ball my body reacts by getting lower, using the ground more, rotating more and a lot of good things happen as a by-product. For me, if I feel like I'm consciously lowering anything which logically aligns with the usual shallowing advice of dropping hands club behind - i get nowhere. In contrast, feeling Mike's move subtly like the club stays 'up' ironically gets the shaft to drop because, feeling a little higher makes my body wan't to move more dynamically to get to the ball. Don't know if this makes sense to anyone but me but might help someone. Anyway I think what is gold here is the acknowledgment that a description of what is happening does not necessarily correlate to the feel, which in my case is exactly right. Literally feels like the polar opposite. Thanks for a great video Eric!

I am trying to make this work for me. It is hard to know if I am getting it right because everything happens so fast. I think I am getting there when I think: light grip, loose shoulders and arms, pause or wait at top and then speed when you need it not before. If I try to do anything like pulling down or standing up the shaft I am into correcting things late and often leave the face way open. Old dog and new tricks. But I do think Mikes approach can lead to better face control and being more accurate. So I continue on in my garage until golf resumes. Thanks great video

Thanks for the message and hope you get it sorted, Ronald! We all struggle with this: "I am trying to make this work for me. It is hard to know if I am getting it right because everything happens so fast." -Best to be recording yourself with video and working with a coach to work through it!

Good video. Listen to Mike about practicing static positions or slo mo practice (11:50 & 15:10). My 2 cents is until you can learn to allow tension free shoulders, arms and wrists you will be fishing for feels. With tension your feel will be different every day or possibly every swing. Do you feel more tension with golf swing than you do with a tennis racket , throwing a ball, or BB bat? Old saying "give up control to gain control" works in golf, business and life.

Love what you are saying about tension, it is everything, get rid of it and you can become a scratch player in no time.

Still got 7 minutes to go and it’s just incredible. His FEELS are what I have felt naturally since I was a kid. When you try to FORCE SHALLOWING, go play another sport because it will drive you insane. Shallowing is natural.TIP IT

Eric, Looking at Tom Watson’s swing, to me his swing path looks like what Mike is explaining with respect the Joe Nichols move. Steep then transitioning to a flat area then back to steep.

Wow another great video with you and Mike.! The one thing needs to explain is if the club head automatically by force start to shallow out..then how can you explain casting the club..which I think I do...please help.thanks
@CogornoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Casting usually due to clubface to open.....its a way to square the face The other reason could be too steep a downswing and it acts to shallow the clubhead I would have to see your swing to say for sure....thats easy to fix if I know WHY you're doing it! Check out www.cogornogolf.com so I can see your swing and answer your questions more specific to you....you have had some good questions on various videos!
