In this video Brendon DeVore from Bebetter Golf and Bobby Lopez PGA of quickfixgolf.com have one of the most important discussions in golf instruction.
When your head or body gets out in front (targetward) of the golf ball you are OFFSIDES! Bobby Lopez contends that good golf must be played from Behind the ball. Too many golfers hear "keep your head still" 🏌 and they put their nose right over the ball after that in there downswing either in an effort to try to compress the ball or to try to add power their head and body starts drifting towards the target this gets them off sides and they have to flip or chicken wing to get back to the ball.
Golf become so much easier when you are on sides!
Pre Order "The Source of Power" now and immediately get access to the Bobby Lopez Onsides Power with Driver raw footage from the upcoming BBG documentary.

My swing coach had me working on something very similar. He had me hitting shots using just my arms. What ended up happening was that I stabilized my lower body, got much more "on sides" and actually gained distance. And, I wasn't actually using only my arms. I was doing what Bobby showed which was allowing my arms to pull me through the swing. And yes, my divots shallowed out as well. Keep up the good work!

I'm speechless. Watched this video. Went out to my back yard with a few balls and used this concept. I have never hit the ball that solid in my life. Can't wait to hit the range and drill this feeling in to my swing. I've golfed with so many good golfers and they have never told me I was going offsides. I didn't realize I was until I took a swing after watching this. Thank you so much Bobby Lopez

Exact same problem as you Brendon - slide to left side, steep swing, fat divots. Tried Bobby's inverted shoulder tilt and was absolutely crushing it with nice shallow divots and a penetrating ball flight. Best news is that my small driver cut became a straight boring through the wind drive. Cheers guys!

Bobby...I don't feel as though my weight shifts, like I hang back when I try inverting my shoulders. Is it just the movement of the club that allows me to complete my swing? Thx, 74 year old Ron

I've spent so many years over-analyzing the golf swing and hearing a million things from different people. The topics you're discussing with Bobby, Tony, and Mike Malaska are honestly what I think are the secrets to figuring out the swing, eg. the arms first mentality. Once I understood how the flamingo drill felt, and applied the concepts to my full swing, my swing is a night and day difference, and the best part is I barely have any swing thoughts, it just comes naturally. You seem to be the only one talking about the swing in this way. Everyone else is obsessed with hip turn, hip drive, shallowing the club, getting the club inside, controlling the face, getting lag, timing the release. When you feel how the swing is supposed to feel, none of that matters at all, it just happens. You would be the #1 golf channel on KZbin if people knew what was good for them!

All these guys are standing on the shoulders of Ernest Jones, Manuel Del la Torre. The swing has always been arms first. The Problem is the guys on tv who do swing vision has gotten so many golfers to achieve effects instead of feels. I have wasted so much time trying to 'look' a certain way.

I saw this video for the 1st time yesterday. I play 3-4 rounds each week from 6000 yd tees. Really been struggling the last month specifically on the short game. My last scores have been soaring in upper 90's and 100+... way, way over my expectations for enjoying the sport and art. This swing "move" Mr Lopez explains here [left shoulder waiting!!! etc] is exactly something I thought I realized on the range several months ago on my own as "the" possible missing swing mechanic. I was adding 30-40 yards off the tee with superior, predictable and piercing ball flight/aim. Solid golfers I'm around seem to have found a repeatable base swing that they know works and gives them unquestioned confidence in the game. That is what I seek. My local PGA instructors have never quite covered the swing moves in the way presented here. After seeing this video and the "reinforcement" it gave to my feel for "finding this move" I went out yesterday intending to stay with this "move" on every shot and no other swing thoughts. The result, a solid 85. This is totally shocking... beyond shocking. To leave the golf course with self satisfaction rather than bewildered embarrassment is finally a welcomed change. And the pressure this takes off the short game cannot go unmentioned. Wish I'd seen this lesson with Mr Lopez in 2010 when I started golf at age 56. Different things trigger different players. Brendon's discussion at 4:25 about what I guess is called the "kinematic sequence", and that it got him no where... totally resonates with me... totally. The time and money I wasted on all that... so regretted. Swapping positions with the shoulders, and/or holding the left shoulder in place "inverting" is physically a hard thing for me to do. I don't know why but it is, but this is the key to not "jumping offsides"... a hideous death move. If I perform this little maneuver and maintain my spine angle, it seems I really don't have to think about too much else in the swing, and the solid ball striking that results is what it is all about.

What a great video! Keep up the great work. I tried this at the range and the video shows the body sequence looks so much more "correct". However now my left foot is spinning out at impact which I think is due to not transferring my weight into my left side. It's difficult to transfer while at the same time keeping the left shoulder back. Guess I'll have to keep practicing to find the right balance.

I started messing with this is my computer shop today. I have the same problem as BeBetter but mine is a bit worse. I remember a few years back , I used to do the left shoulder move with chipping and it worked out pretty good except it was hard to control the power it gave. I remember trying it off the tee once with a 5wood and I pulled it a bit, but it was crushed. Of course as a tinkerer I went on to something else (Impact Zone). I started hitting foam balls in my shop with only getting my left shoulder up and back. I really liked the contact . I then started doing it with Pennies on the ground and I was making good contact with them also. My hips are clearing without even thinking about it . Going to try it out in my garage range and the real range this weekend.

IMO there are two different ways of teaching against a sway: 1.Arm related teaching 2.Body related teaching Although both (arms and body) are involved in the Golf swing, teachers like Monte, Dan Carraher and Bobby seem to advise very often to speed up the arms. Teachers like Kelvin Miyahira, George Gankas and Dana Dahlquist seem to put more empahzise on correct body rotation with flattening the shaft in transition. However, you described very good the mental root cause of a sway: it is the idea of hitting behind the ball, meaning being anxious to hit the turf first. Anyway, if you sway you have to release early to hit the ball as swaying will make you steep. If you turn like GG and DD or K.M. propose to do you can stay behind the line (onside) and keep the right arm bend longer, keep the right wrist bend longer which cause a later release which causes the preferred ball/turf hit sequence. I'am not fully convinced that speeding up the arms will lead to the same result mentioned above (GG/DD/KM style/body release). Speeding up the arms can easily do the opposite. Especially if you straighten the right arm a lot in the early downswing.

You have the same issue I had for the longest time, and so many golfers have it. Any swing change or drill you work on, you can't stop yourself from swinging your guts out. I used to do the same thing. Associating pounding the ball with power and distance. Swinging hard helps us feel better, because we are able to mask our swing faults. We don't feel them when we swing hard and fast. You feel uncomfortable when you're aware of the awkwardness of a swing change, so you swing hard so that you won't feel it. But to change, you have to slow down and remove all of that effort in the downswing. Embrace the awkward and allow yourself to feel everything with a slower, less effort filled swing.

Have you ever tried to ol "swing in a barrel" feel? I always used to struggled with keeping my head back and over sliding hips. Its the first thing I thought when I saw Bobbys "shaft lean" video. I have the swing thought of "no lateral motion" and I just slowly open my lead hip. Of course Im bumping first but it feels like Im not. its just like Bobbys description of "left butt cheek over right heel" and its really fits well with replacing left/right shoulders. The key for me is the "feel" of NO lateral hip motion.

Hi Brendon. Bobby Lopez with his inverted golf downswing in my opinion gave you the best advice of all the professional golfers you consulted with and it even fits perfectly with what Dr Kwon is now collaborating with you today Put the two together and you got a great; beautiful and repeatable golf swing. I personally put together what I am calling « My Trail Upper Arm Body Push Pump Drill Rehearsal To The Ball » that I do just prior to my actual golf swing. I will be demonstrating and posting this soon and free on my channel for people to comment on I truly believe my drill rehearsal stopping short behind my ball; give me tremendous information about my swing that follows; resulting in the the most perfectly executed golf swing in my 45 years of playing golf. For about a month I have been practicing the "2o'clock drill" and not hitting any balls except chipping and putting. This past Saturday I went to the range for the first time and try my "new swing". The difference in my ball flight and impact was something I have never experienced before. I told my wife I would be only an hour. I kept hitting balls for almost two and a half hours. It was,no doubt, my best range session ever. I didn't want to leave. It was like I was dreaming. Absolutely fantastic video! I'm similar to Brendon, and grew up playing & hearing that the left side thrust (leading with the hips) and all that was the power source and helped catch ball first. I'm going to go practice this at the range right away. I have made some dry swings in the office and that severe shoulder tilt my body is not used to and is tweaking my lower back a bit. I guess I'll have to slowly undue years of making the wrong move. Cuba sounds like a fantastic golf get away. Good luck Bobby hope you don't need that bail money lol and thanks Brendon!

same tweak in lower back here after trying Bobby's advice. Couldn't even sweep the ground the first few times I tried this. However after 3 buckets I started to flush some and hit decent 1/2 punch shots. Definitely a feeling I have not had before, always been fighting a steep downswing where I would stand up to rescue it. Will keep working on this though, not a quick fix but time to re-think this game!

what i love about most of the pros you have is the don't tell you stay back, keep your head down, you need to be inside out or you have a chicken wing. instead the tell you what you why you are doing it and how to fix it and what it feels like. you never hear that you need to hold chest while you pull club down just 10 ways to pull it down. this and the 2 o'clock drill have changed how i picture what i need to do.

Brendon, exactly what I needed! Great content, and with all the comments I'm obviously not the only one to think so. I tried to preorder your next exclusive video, but the link wasn't working on my mobile devices.

Brendon, I ordered the video, thanks for your direct reply. .This morning I put Bobby' s straightforward concepts into play, and I find it incredibly helpful. Thank you for your channel, it's fantastic and I'm happy to support it with my purchase.

I've been staying on my right side throughout the swing and I'm hitting so well, it feels so alien tho, hitting the ball while I'm staying on my right side

Good stuff Brendon... it will be interesting when you talk to Mike Malaska, some of his concepts are the opposite of Bobby's. From my own experience, it's obvious there is more than one way to hit a golf ball, it's when we mix and match different swing philosophies that it becomes even harder than it should be.

in your opinion what points are opposite, I have been doing a lot of research on mike recently and this would help to know.

At 11:28 Bobby warns against the the club getting too steep and the club head getting outside. Mike calls it coming over the top from the inside. His delivery into "the slot" is different than most. Monte advises getting the arms away from the chest on the down swing, where Mike pivots the clubhead "out" while the hands take an inside path to the ball. I'm sure he will explain it better than I . Look forward to your discussion with him.

Glen, I sent my video to Bobby about 2 weeks ago and got it back the next day! Couldn't believe it came back that fast... I'd send your swing video again; it might be lost in his inbox. BTW - You're going to like his analysis! Good luck.

Hi Brendon the reason you have to move your body left is your take away. Your shoulders are dictating where your arms go which is too inside at the top then you have to reroute the arms by moving the shoulders. If you take the club back with the arms which in turn pull the shoulders around you will be able to pull the arms down without the slight over the top move. The upper body will not need to move forward to hit the ball. I had the same fault that's why the no turn cast drill was good for you cheers Ian. It will feel more restricted.

And yet Bobby drifts to the left as he reaches the top of the backswing. Nicklaus said it was “impossible to release too fast if you move to the left side”.
