I hope you enjoy this golf lesson video from our time working with Chris! We focused firstly on adjusting his grip from a very weak grip to a more neutral grip, even strong golf grip. From there we worked hard on getting him to stand the club up towards the top of the backswing with a much bigger turn so he could have it shallow versus the club getting laid off and him using a tumble move to start the downswing. We also made use of The Hanger golf aid, a golf training aid I like to utilize from time-to-time to help with wrist conditions and club face alignment. I have been golfing 20+ years and struggled the whole way, trying to digest every coaches method on how to pivot and rotate. Discovering Milo has had a tremendous impact on not only my understanding of how the motion is supposed to work, but also it's application into my swing. Far and away the best instructor around, and I've watched them all. Thank you sir.

Yes, a change like this takes time, but even working towards it can produce better results vs that open face swiper.

As a roller of the wrists off the takeaway, the comment at the very end by Henry is the key. You need to feel in and up. For someone who takes in straight back combined with a turn it puts the hands out and they need to roll just to make a backswing, which leads to being flat. I'm still working on this mysef, its a tough pattern to break. Actually leads to his other problem of not completing the turn in backswing. When hands go out, my body wouldnt turn correctly, weight goes to toes, ect.

As someone thats swung the club flat for years, and not realizing until I put myself on camera about a year ago. The problem was the constant teaching and idea of turning the club back. This creates the arms going around you, as the shoulders turn. It creates nothing but depth. The arms move upwards only. The body “turns”, yes; but when thinking “turn” you tend to move your shoulders more flat to turn them. I find you really need to focus on moving your shoulders around yourself as you stay at 45 degrees (in your tilted over posture). The spiral staircase idea taught by Pete Cowen helps mentally a bit.

I finally figured out the cause!! I have the same exact problem of laying the club flat. The first part of my takeaway is fine and doesn't roll, so that wasn't my issue. The club can also get laid flat after hinging. I just figured out WHY - it's the right elbow!!! If you stop lifting the right elbow, it becomes the pivot point and the club will tip back and flat, like losing an arm wrestling match, your right thumb (which matches the shaft) will point down and behind you. In the back swing, after the first part of the takeaway, you have to keep lifting the right elbow until it is about parallel with the horizon. You can even see it in this video. Look at his right elbow position in his before swing at 0:20 compared to the better after swing at 7:10 . That is the key! So if you have your takeaway right and don't roll the club, you can still roll it after the takeaway if you don't lift your right elbow enough, so get your right elbow up as you hinge! Also, keep your left elbow pointed down no higher than 45 degrees off the ground. If you roll it too much more than that towards the horizon, that will also lay the club flat. And like the instructor showed, you also can't let your lead shoulder point up, it needs to tilt down as you turn. And yes, grip is part of it too, but if you are hinging correctly, the cause is likely the right elbow not lifting, the left elbow not pointing down enough, and/or the lead shoulder coming off the ground and not tilting down as you turn. I hope this helps someone, the right elbow part is key and was not explained in the video. You can also compare Ricky Fowler's right elbow to his old laid off swing to his new swing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5yVfXmhotN2oqs

I definitely think MIlo's 'school' of tuition is the best I've seen - really distills the swing down to the simple motions that it should be instead of all the over-complications that nearly everyone else teaches - the key to this I think is the emphasis on the rotational part. I had a friend when younger who was a county level cricket player as a junior, being a 'drive' hitter rather than an 'armsy' swinger like Botham. He would borrow my dad's old golf clubs from the 1950s (butter knife blades and persimmon woods and all with knackered leather grips, plus lies and shaft lengths custom for my taller dad), and he would shoot 6 over after not having played or practised for several months. No ceremony, just backswing and great weight transfer through the ball - helped by his natural sporting abillities no doubt (I once bowled a golf ball at him and he stepped up and hit a perfect 6 iron on the half-volley). Whenever I'm tempted to get technical I think about his swing!

On another video with Ed he emphasized the path of the left hip lowering and then opening/rotating in the downswing and I find that 'feel' very useful as otherwise I was struggling with the lowering bit.

Looks like he just needs to slow down a bit. I’m currently in the process of changing to this swing and I think I’m getting it. But the last three trips to the range I’ve went really slow and made progress. The driver is still giving me fits now because it’s hard for me to play that cut I’ve always played. I believe in the change and it will definitely change my game for the better! Best teacher on KZbin! Brad Faxon said the process is more important than the result. 👍

@@MiloLinesGolf Would you consider a backswing change like this to be a major swing change? What's a realistic time range for fixing it assuming daily practice? 6-8 weeks?
@Raggmuff

What he said is that money sentence. "They worst part, it seems, is the Turn" It seems impossible to go from a hands driven timed impact to trusting a rotation to gain speed and power. I played today and dead shanked it 7 times because my right hip keeps jumping towards ball after reflexing on the downswing. It's extremely frustrating.
@chrisstevens2593

Looks like by having the stronger grip it allows the club face to be slightly closed at impact even though the club face is pretty far behind the body. Without the strong grip the club face would be open and then instinctively we would try to compensate to try and square it up

Agreed. I'm a 7.5 and have spent the past 5 weeks fixing a very laid-off backswing. It's much better now, but if I'm not careful, it starts to revert back to the old, laid-off position. Going to take some time to get it automatic.

I liked his layed off move at the top. It was that horrific struggle to square the face starting directly from the top that was killing him. Do you not like the club layed off at the top? Would you try to get everybody to do the slightly across the line then flatten? Because Jon Rahm lays it off then steepens it, along with other greats.
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
My preference is not to be layed off however for powerful players with short swings it can be a good matchup but for players that lack speed it’s not optimal. I generally like the club to work like a bat or tennis racket from up to under

Did you show him your go-to drill of the partial swings using just body rotation? I think that would do wonders for him and even have that thought for the whole backswing, to get rid of so much left arm roll.

If the club is stood up and you have proper wrist conditions and don't add unnecessary force to the club with your hands and arms, then yes, the club will want to lay down a bit in transition.

Milo let slip that the biggest grip fault in bad golfers is a weak lead strong trail,this hardly ever gets mentioned! prob cos its so easy for a teaching pro to fix! ive lost count of the number of seniors.women terrible hackers with their lead hand thumb straight down the center or even target side of grip.The only weak lead hands on tour are ether immensely strong athletes or left handers playing right ie speith, morakawa, phil etc
