After so many years of listening to pros and well meaning golfers ( who are imparting a pros lessons) this guy has not only reignited my interest in playing golf but has made a huge impact on my game. Please all of you viewers start to give this KZbin prophet more likes, the number of views versus the number of likes is terrible and may deter future videos. Thanks Tom you’re a treasure

Man... Two days ago, I've suddenly became a new golfer as you say at 21:10 I've finally felt what it is like to keep the arm tucked in. As you say, it was a flash, THE swing that made me feel what it is really like to keep the arm tucked in ! And the moment i knew what it was feeling like, i could not stop but launching rockets and having crispy contacts... It has been months since I started golf again but since then I knew something was wrong with my swing, it was not feeling well, not feeling solid, not consistent and thanks to your way of teaching golf by giving us the keys of understanding our own swing I finally solved the equation. Hope these videos will help others as much as it has helped me !

It’s excellent instruction for senior golfers who are less athletic
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 8 ай бұрын
I appreciate that, Malcolm, though in actuality this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age, ability, or athleticism - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Thanks, Tom

totally brilliant. it is especially notable how your right leg helps you to turn beyond 90 degrees. and, it is the angle of your right leg, which directs force into your right hip, that turns the lower part of your body, whilst the movement back with your arms pulls the upper part of your body around. swinging with just the right arm- no club- is great way of freeing up the backswing; and, swinging the club with just the left hand, on the club, is a great way of keeping the weight on the left foot; which, as you have demonstrated in your videos, makes it so much easier for the right hip to move back and turn. if we hold the club out to to our left, with just the left hand, and press forwards with the heel pad of the hand it moves our weight onto our left foot; and, this enables us to use the weight of the club to set the club into motion, when we swing back. this, also, helps to create the arc. but, the real key to this drill is that it can help to ensure that a player has their weight on their left foot at the top of the backswing, even if they have some movement to the right, as they take the club back, in their actual swing. when the heel pad of the left hand has fully extended the wrist joint completes the backswing by pushing back, and the left side of the head has to press down to direct force into the shoulder to help the wrist joint pull the shoulder around and extend the left shoulder joint in its socket. this, of course, directs the weight onto the left foot. so, even if a player lacks flexibility, and has to allow their head to move to the right- in their actual swing- as they cock their head to the side in the takeaway, a player will be able to move back onto the their left side towards the top of their backswing.

@@SagutoGolf well, thank you Tom. round these parts it would be too cold and wet to get out on the course, even if they weren't flooded. here we have to wrap up warm now; and, i am so muffled up that i can't even get both hands on the club to stand to the ball at address. so, i can only swing the club one handed. but, when i swing with just my left hand on the club; and, press down with the left side of my head, towards the top of my backswing, i can actually turn beyond 90. if i do enough reps i can sometimes warm up enough to dispense of my coat; which enables me to put my right hand on the club as i get to the top of my backswing. this really makes my left wrist joint push back to enable my right hand to place itself on the club. and, it is remarkable how much turn i can get when i do this. and, it actually takes all the strain off my back.

Mr. Saguto .....you are a breath of fresh air in modern golf instruction, I am a fan......However first let me say. I am an older guy in his 50's and been looking at lessons in Golf Digest from the early 80's...VHS tapes too and back then the stuff was limited... I had jack's book golf my way ..Curtis Strange's VHS tape and so on etc. etc!! I have been looking at pictures and pausing swings from then until KZbin and now beyond....I just wanted to point out that in the beginning section when I slow speed down and pause you halfway back with your driver swing & then again at the top of your swing you are more around as you say but coming back down you reroute back out over the top onto a steeper plane ...you do not stay flat on the way down....Rickie fowler does what you describe....he goes back around and comes back down even more around!! Your lead arm matches you shoulder plane three quarters of the way back, but it steepens and bisects your ear and the bottom of your neck coming down ....and your butt doesn't stay back like you have described in other videos ...at impact you early extend. I say these things not to tear down but to help you be a better teacher than you already are!

Tom, the algos pushed this video into my watch list. Glad it did. I have signed up for your online membership, but have only watched a few lessons so far. Maybe you cover this in an episode there, but with driver are you hitting down or up on the ball? Also, on the downswing (irons) are you coming down with the hips or sliding toward the target? Thanks.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
Glad to have you onboard!! It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. As for how to initiate the downswing, that is a loaded question because it is so dependent on individual tendencies that I cannot give a generalized answer. Instead I strongly encourage you to work through the school sequentially from the beginning as designed (starting with the setup). Along the way you will see that I do my best to convey various “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible, however they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. In other words, the lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Also, as you work through the curriculum please keep in mind that I do offer an a la carte swing video analysis service to my school members as a means to support their progress in the school. Here is a link where you can learn more: noodle.shop/sagutogolf Thanks - I hope you you enjoy the school, and please be sure to get active in the Members' Community! Tom

Hi Tom, your lessons really talk to me, well done. If I may, 2 questions How are you getting your wrist into position in the back swing? This may be naive, but serious, why aren’t you a tour pro? You crush the ball consistently, can work the ball, easy repeatable swing. What’s the missing link? I think your a great golfer and excellent teacher Thanks

I sincerely appreciate your very kind words regarding my instruction content and my swing!! With regard to the Tour pro path, first of all before I could even think about competing it would probably take the better part of a year of dedicated practice to hone my scoring game (yes - those guys are THAT good!); Second - I thoroughly enjoy what I am doing in my chosen career as a PGA instructor in helping so many people enjoy the game more, and I wouldn't trade that for anything! As for your other question, I simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 15 күн бұрын
While the Stack and Tilt system I teach shares a one plane feature, Jack, it is definitely different from the "single plane" version patterned after Mr. Norman's swing. For example, the straight-line relationship of the arms and club shaft from the DTL view that you referenced is a trademark of Mr. Norman's setup that one will not typically find in S&T instruction, in which we allow the arms to hang naturally from the shoulders as we find that this relationship facilitates the proper and natural loading of the wrists and trail arm. However, there are also some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods. Stack and Tilt is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined from this study of these ball striking legends that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Mr. Norman certainly did! With regard to receiving swing information from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. That is not a dig against any other teachers out there. It's simply best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if the system I teach appeals to you or at the very least stokes your curiosity, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews I wish you all the best in whichever methodology you decide to pursue. That's 30 more yards. So that's 80 yards I'm picking up. I hit my driver 220 years now so next week I'll hit it 309 yards anD out drive you. Oh wait you hit it more than that. When keeping your takeaway shallow (below the swing plane) aren’t you leaving distance on the table? Also how is your angle of attack impacted?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 ай бұрын
But here's the thing: This is not a "flat" or "below plane" swing. It is actually perfectly on-plane! If we keep ourselves centered and allow the lead shoulder to work downward (the "tilt" component), then the arms will naturally elevate without the need for any independent lifting action. This will prevent the club from getting "stuck" too far behind us, as can happen with a shoulder turn that is too flat and/or if we snatch or roll the club to the inside with the hands. Instead, we will have the lead arm in a great position to transition into the optimal downswing path (which, by the way, is the exact same path we would be trying to somehow consistently manufacture if we were going to "drop it in the slot" with a two-plane "shift & lift" motion). This depth enables them - and us - to take full advantage of the tremendous force known as "angular momentum", where physics and geometry collide! Hi Tom. Which of these drills would do the most to prevent shanking? Thanks. Ralph G.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 10 ай бұрын
Hi Ralph, Your shanks can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open during the backswing; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly; 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) More... What I'm getting at is that there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit behind those hosel rockets. I would like to know what your hands and your forearms are doing in the backswing at the top. Is your wrist flat or is it bowed? I have been experimenting with keeping it flat and using the waiters position with the right arm.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 11 ай бұрын
Hi Brit, Much of this depends on the type of grip you have. My grip tends towards neutral, so a flat wrist condition at the top mimics my flat wrist at address and keeps the face square. On the other hand (so to speak), those who deploy a strong grip address the ball with a cupped lead wrist, so unless they are using that type of grip to mask a slice-producing swing flaw or making some type of handsy manipulation they will probably need to retain some degree of cupping at the top to keep the face square. Here's the thing, though. I'm not thinking about my hands or wrists during the motion. Here are a few lessons on this topic: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3evnmlte9NrZ68 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJerammqitNpotU - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ7Cg6eJfcd7bsU Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? What it does have 3 grip setting (Neutral, Strong and Strong +) you can’t grip the Straight Stick with the Neutral Grip I have been working on as in your videos. What size are your hands? I’m thinking about trying the jumbo Max to help my hands stay quiet. But I’m not sure if my hands are to small
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbo XL's are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. (By the way, JumboMax grips do come in a variety of sizes.) Tom

So. Do you still hit with right arm like you did in the beginning?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 10 ай бұрын
Hi Arlin, My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you because they are unique to me. Beyond that, they change regularly they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. Sometimes it's the lead arm, sometimes it's the trail arm, other times it's both arms, and even others it's no arms and just shoulders or chest or hips... 😆 This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Tom I have noticed that you move your body full wood has you get to the top of your back swing is this right
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 10 ай бұрын
Hi Billy, By "full wood" I'll assume you meant "forward". The lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a very powerful move that you will notice with every great player. Most amateur golfers already have plenty of the rotational component; they need to build in the lateral hip slide to suppress the early-onset spinout that causes so many to get steep and across the line. Here are some lesson videos specific to this topic: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6SZm4adgtt9o68 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnOXeqeIaMyofbc - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2a7ipqBpNWHmJY Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? How do you set your feet for irons and wood s!!!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 8 ай бұрын
Hi Frank, I set my feet parallel to the target line. The widest stance is with the driver, where the insides of the heels are shoulder-width apart. The stance gets incrementally narrower - and the ball position moves back - as the clubs get shorter. Beyond that, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom, I feel like I'm really on my lead foot when I straighten my trail knee as you're teaching here. I know you want more weight on the lead foot, but it feels like if I swing from this position, I'm going to fall back to the trail foot I've got so much weight on the lead foot it's like I've got nowhere else to go. I'm getting better and better with your methods, this trail knee move is something I'm starting to try to incorporate now. You look like you too are tilting/leaning on the lead foot quite a bit, sure feels awkward! Am I overdoing it??
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
You may be overdoing it, Mike, or perhaps you are so accustomed to shifting into your trail side that it just feels weird. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We achieve this by addressing the ball "stacked", shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. During the swing we gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? In fact I’m watching you do that in the video. That requires extreme accuracy to repeat over and over.
