I took an in-person lesson with Adam, and one thing he did was change my grip with my left hand. The way I was gripping it promoted way too much flipping, particularly with my wedges. Before I could only hit my 52 degree like 85 yards. Now, since I don't add loft anymore, I can hit it around 105. I am 63 so not bad. This has also done wonders for my distance control. Shot a 75 in a two club wind on Sunday! :)

Spot On Adam...Sometimes when the ball is in a bad lie punch shots always work well! The ball has better distance control and the acceleration threw the shot with chest high ending on the shot seems to hit the ball at the trap penetrating flight...I kinda go in attack mode for this shot..Great lesson as Always Adam!!!!

Great tips and so forth, not that i cannot play but most of the time ive come up short with the 20/30 yard chip/pitching area around the green, which can leave me with hefty puts. As a normal person whom uses municiple courses which arnt always the best condition ( I live in UK ) as i cannot afford to play £100 + courses. Some tips around longer grass areas or some that lack a bit of the green stuff or bunker shots that lack sand in them...

With Covid-19 we each ride our own carts. Our fairways are cut very short almost to bare lies. I am either hitting the ball to thin or hitting behind it as a skull shot. This is for full iron, and pitch shots. With chips that are short I use a putter, but beyond few yards distance control is the problem. Any suggestions. Thanx
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 4 жыл бұрын
John, sorry you’re struggling. Tight lies are very challenging, even for top players. You mention thin and fat, sounds to me like you need more shaft lean at impact. Handle forward, club de-lofted. Hope this helps, best, Adam

Hello Adam, do compressed shots using 58-60 wedges mean to you more rolling? Whats are ideal distances for using bounces with open club face at bent left wrist, 10-30 yards? Cheers!
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. No, even with some de-lofting the ball should have plenty of backspin. Regards distances, bounce etc, there are so many variables, you'd need to see a good wedge fitter in person. All the best, Adam

@@Scratchgolfacademy On practice mat i can hit up to 80 yards using bouce, but on grasp without delofting and hit it like on sand is really a risk, distance is unpredictable. So i guess using bounce is safe for small diatance chipping, isn't it?

Adam, A question for you regarding your pitching philosophy... Unlike your approach to this shot, Phil Mickelson preaches a setup with weight forward, ball placement off either the front or back foot (never centered), and a "hinge & hold" swing. How do you feel about his approach to this shot vs. your philosophy ? Thank you...

The phrase "de-loft" is new to me. In a way it's kind of an alternative to the more common (in the old days?) of "hands ahead of the ball". I used to like to hit the high flop shots from 20-30 yds (or closer) in. I realized that then I was not varying that motion on 40-60 yd occasions. Became as Adam said, fluttery with the movement/swing, too flippy with the hands. Inconsistency reigned supreme eventually, and now as I am back playing again, I am finding it difficult to do the moves Adam suggests. I may also have some sway on backswing so needless to say that's compounding problems. Adam's drill for the 50-60 yd pitch sound okay, particularly those that emphasize hitting lots of shots in the prescribed way, aiming to get consistent and solid hit, and flight (lower than usual, probably). The idea of paying close attention to the distances one is getting with a 3/4, for example, are good - determining a baseline and all that. Final question - Adam, why 58 degree for this shot? If we ask why not 56, 54 degree for same shot, is that just parsing the issue too much? Thanks.
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Howard. I don't think the club choice is definitive, but you do want to spin the ball, and for that you need loft on the club. My SW happens to be 58 degree, so that's why I used it. All the best, Adam
@duninstefan1074
@duninstefan1074 4 жыл бұрын
Why do you use 58 degrees, and then hassle to deloft? Why not take a 48 degree or less ?
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 4 жыл бұрын
Dunin, It's a fair question. The two main reasons are that the club reaches bottom of arc (hits ground, divot) when shaft is vertical, so you want that to happen after impact. This requires that the shaft is still leaning forward (de-loft) at the moment of contact. Secondly, the ball can be compressed better when the shaft is in line with the lead arm, as in a baseball or tennis impact. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
@wimmi3165
@wimmi3165 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, for me, a 20 HC, the Arms get very stiff by bringing the hands far forward. Would it be the same result, to lean the upper body on the front foot and use a 44 degree loft?
@marks7880
@marks7880 4 жыл бұрын
80% weight on the front foot 20% back foot on all my shots from 50 yards and in. Good enough for Pelz & Phil good enough for me. The toe up back foot drill is a great way to get the feel of it and helps a lot of people feel that shaft lean like he's describing also.
@joeidaho5938
@joeidaho5938 9 ай бұрын
Because I don't hit so strong, my normal shot for 50 to 60 yds is a full swing pitch wth a 60 wedge. Goes very high in the air....and sticks when it drops. If I want a roll, then it's a different shot. The harder shot for me is 45 yds and less....which gets into chip territory.
