Probably one of the best videos I have seen. I agree that a good golf swing begins with a good setup. Eric - I liked how you used angles and lines to show a correct address. This is something I can check in my mirror and phone. Chris - I liked how you explained on how to "set up" to the ball. I will definitely use your tips in my setup routine.

Great video guys! Been LOVING Chris’ videos for a while and KZbin recommended Eric’s channel. Subbed! One though though, the cutaways or Erics videos weren’t needed IMO, it was enough just to have him on the range. Great video.

Nailed it again with another great video. Alignment sticks and a mirror make practicing all these down the line things a snap at home when I can't get to the course. Love the last little tip from Chris as well on grip tension. Might be adding that into the preshot routine.

More good stuff here Eric and nice to see you linking up with Chris Ryan. I've a question re; ball position. Another great coach Kip Puterbaugh described the two schools of thought as being as I recall, 1. Ball position constant, stance width changes and 2. Stance width more constant, ball position changes. Additionally, coaches like Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Jack Grout and players like Jack Nicklaus taught one ball position for all normal shots as it simplified things and gave more consistency. Just wondered what your thoughts on this were?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would say one ball position and changing feed width is more common....but Ive seen really good players do it both ways successfully!

I think Chris is a great teacher and I follow his channel. I did notice a difference in philosophy on foot pressure. I’m pretty sure you advocate 50/50 pressure at setup and Chris favors slightly more pressure in the lead foot. Is this one of those variables that requires individual experimentation? Great video as always.

Set up is vitally important. One missing piece: width of stance. How does it affect the swing? A wide stance feels powerful. However, in my swing a wide stance promotes forearm roll and and open club face.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ron... Wider feet make you shorter, narrow feet keep you tall. So generally speaking the taller the player the more I may widen stance. Wider stance easier to unweight and shift pressure for speed and power. So feed wider for longer clubs up to driver and more narrow for shorter clubs where power not as necessary. I would say ankles even with or just outside shoulders for stock irons and well wider for driver. Hope that helps!

This is the most important part of any golf swing. If you don't get it right your gonna make compensations. I seen people who finally get it right say "It doesn't feel right". That's because they've been doing it wrong for so long. 🤔

I’m a “butt line too far back “ guy. If you straighten your legs you will have to have more forward bend? If the butt line is to far back are you most likely standing too far away from ball?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 жыл бұрын
If you straighten your legs, more forward/side bend....yes. As to why butt line would be more back....could be several thing, would have to see your swing to say for sure

On ball position relative to the lead foot: I thought that distance remained constant, and it was the backfoot that goes farther or nearer to the ball depending upon the club...

Great video guys, watched a lot of Chris as I'm in the UK and recently found Eric. I've just tried this set up in the mirror regards arm hang and lining the back of the arm pit to knees/ball of feet. It feels like my arms are too close to my body almost resting on the sides of my chest/stomach. Is this right as it feels restricted? Thanks
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Glen! Always use the checkpoints. What you need to FEEL isn't correct nor incorrect. If you hit the checkpoint what that feel then that is correct for you RIGHT NOW....based on WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM. If you were farther away before then yes you would need to feel closer to get to neutral

I am a little confused. If at set up with the lead hip/pelvis slightly forward, there is more weight on the lead foot. This in turn means the lead hip/pelvis is higher than the trail pelvis/hip at set up.. In my experience it is very very difficult to hit down (ball turf/contact) to compress the golf ball from such a set up let alone to get the divot in from of the ball for iron shots. If anything, on the backswing from such a position, this will encourage a sway to the trail side as it is lower than the lead side unless one pivots on the lead foot where the weight is. This set up discourages making a centered turn back. All instruction I halve been reading so far suggests you need to get the weight pressure on the trail side at the top so you can make the transition from there. WITH THE LEAD HIP HIGHER as suggested at set up, THIS IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBE. BETTER THAT THE TRAIL HIP BE HIGHER AT SET UP TO MAKE A DOWNWARD STRIKE.

Isn't it a lot harder to hit down on the ball (ball turf) if you set up with the body tilt you suggest at set up (with lead hip higher than trail hip?) Seems to me the opposite is true.
