Really interesting insight, thanks Giles. I had kind of expected a GT450 (Adam) vs Quik R (Nine) type thing, but the differences are, well, different! The Quik R is way heavier in roll than the GT450, do the first time I flew my GT450 after only flying the instructor's Quik R, I was over controlling the roll rather a lot! Good job there was the instructor in the back to 'damp' that (i.e. grab the bar!) 🤣 Now I've flown the GT450 ever since, it's just natural.

Interesting. There are certainly aspects of the Adam I miss, like its chuck-about-ability and (very) short field use but I'm happy I switched to the Nine. Its speed, rock steady handling, shorter when packed, speed of setting up (not that the Adam was slow), the 303 engine, and it looks so good. Granted the Adam has its place for sub-70 and the Nine is SSDR. You're lucky to have two locations and just added the Nine for location #2. But if I was trying to put one of either at two locations I'd probably have two Nines.
@GolfFoxtrot223 ай бұрын

Another excellent video Giles. Did I miss the bit about the differences between the moster 185, and that 303? I understand the increased speed and fuel burn and how the thirstier engine can get you there quicker. Are the both two strokes? What's the sort of difference between HP and Torque, and which is better for flexwing aircraft
@GolfFoxtrot223 ай бұрын
Hi Simon, I didn't want to go into too much detail as the engines are quite far apart in performance. The 185 is only 25 hp, the 303 is 38. The 185 is air cooled, the 303 is water cooled. Both are 2 strokes. You do feel the greater torque of the 303 at full power but that is all. In short the 303 will burn less fuel per mile on the NiNE than the 185 will on the ADAM.

Hi, I have a few questions for you: which is softer in rolling between the Adam and the Nine? And what are the cruising speeds? My engine has 27Hp, is that enough for the Nine? Thank you very much
@GolfFoxtrot222 ай бұрын
Hi, good questions. The Adam is softer in roll. The HOT of the Adam is 45mph, the NiNE is 59/60 on the mid hang point. If you weigh around 73-76kgs ready to fly then 27 hp would be enough, otherwise you'll be running higher up in the power and thus using more fuel than a bigger engine working lower down. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions please just drop them here.

@GolfFoxtrot223 ай бұрын
It has crossed my mind but it's a bit out of my price range at the moment. I think it would be perfect on the Adam wing but the weight makes the trike SSDR so makes for an impractical Sub 70 machine.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 what do you think about the EOS Quattro for a Nine? Do you think those 30-31 hp aren't going to be enough?
@GolfFoxtrot222 ай бұрын
I think it would need to be tried. Paul's 33 hp on his trike is ok but for routine flying, I think the EOS is going to be working quite hard, or you won't get the benefit of having a 4 stroke. You could put a EOS on the PeaBee ( as a SSDR) that would work well.

I'm terrified of my own wake in my Adam. I feel like it's too much of a hit for the structure of the wing. I'm also nervous to hold the bar in to my gut like that. It seems like alot of pressure for that keychain ring on the nose. I'd like to see more robust attachment points, and maybe dual flying wires on the roll control. If one of those go, it's game over. That's why I'm content on just calmly floating around when I fly it. I don't push it.
@GolfFoxtrot223 ай бұрын
Hi Ed, I think you are overthinking the fragility of your machine. It will make you black out before it will fail. The control bar wires are not that highly loaded and the lift wires will take over 6 tonnes each. So give that bar a good pull with confidence 😁.

I got my dual throttle installed, that was harder than expected, but your vid on it was helpful for sure. I made a new Engine mount for a new engine and it turned out nice and engine is now wired up now and should get it running today.
