Great review! I'm now even more excited to hit these very soon as I'm in the hunt for a nice looking, good feeling iron. I currently have the TaylorMade M4s ('21 version) and while they are a decent game improvement iron set, they're not very workable and I prefer a smaller top line like a P790 or these ForgedTec. Great review. I currently have ping g710’s with stock graphite regular flex. As a mid handicapper they mask a lot of mishits which is great but Dispersion left to right is somewhat wide. Are cavity backs more accurate than hollow body irons? I don’t want more distance. I want forgiveness on mishits along with greens hit. In addition to the cobra forged tec iron are there other irons you would recommend i try out?
@ipotato952 жыл бұрын
My irons launch and spin similar to forged tec x version of these, when the grass is a little wet or you have a low spin lie, it’s halfway impossible to control the distance because they come out like a low spin nasa shuttle
@canyonaro2 жыл бұрын
Switch to a ball that spins more off the irons, like Chrome Soft X or Pro V1x.
@Justmakesomenoiz2 жыл бұрын
Am not totally wrong but isn't a V1X meant to a less spinner ball to get some distance? If so how would that help to help to play a less spinner ball. Shouldn't like a Titleist tour be more suitable which is softer and also creates more spinn.
@canyonaro2 жыл бұрын
@@Justmakesomenoiz Its a firm ball so it's hot of the driver for high speed swingers but it spins a ton on the irons. I'll use it if I'm playing very firm greens but it's a full half club shorter on iron shots for me since it spins so much.

Matt I have a question on the one length, I play the F8 one length and have dialed in my yardages for 6 iron in but have seen distance starting to lose a few yards. My question is as a 67 year old baller is it better to keep with the one length only in the tec or move back to the variable length X for forgiveness as I age up for distance? I really like the single 7 iron setup, appreciate your view on this.

Because the 7 is spinning more like a 5 iron but flying and landing at a very good decent angle, is there any concerns with stopping power at all with the mid to longer irons? Especially if you use a softer compression ball like a Chrome Soft or Tour Response, I would imagine another 4 to 5 hundred spin reduction from the BS X ball numbers in your test. That's my only concern. Everything else looks really really good. Maybe a reduction in loft may help with spin numbers, plenty of length even at a 1 or 1.5 loft reduction.. Also, any flyers in any shots off camera? Looked pretty consistent yardage wise which is impressive for this type of iron. Thoughts?
@Hitchcawk Жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, I'm looking to get into these irons just to maybe provide a little more forgiveness than the cavity backs I've currently been playing. I'm a little skeptical about the stronger lofts though.. My current set is traditionally lofted (37 deg 7 iron) and I carry that around 180 and every other club +/- 10 yards from there. I have a very fast swing speed/transition, and currently am an 11 hcp (mostly due to being not so great around/on the green). Do you think these would be a good set to move in to, or would I be hitting everything way too far most likely?

Cool! I have a quick swing but my striking isn't great. I'm a mid to high handicap and I'd like a little more forgiveness, without the silly distance. I find when I've tried these "players distance" or any "game improvement" irons I tend to lose my distance control, and all the clubs go 200 yds. It's a little frustrating that handicap is so closely associated with swing speed - I guess I should just slow my swing down haha
