No doubt. I'm not saying where I live but there is only 1 18 hole course within a 50 mile round trip and the back nine of it is unplayable, but at least the practice areas are good. The 1 other course is a 9 hole course that the gophers have abandoned because the ground is so hard. Yet I continue.

Worst course I ever played on was “Houston Hills”. It was located in Houston, Texas, USA. It was build on a landfill. Trash, cans, and plastic was percolating out of the ground. Fairways were scrub grass and weeds. The hazard you had to carry on a par 3 was a toxic chemicals swamp. If there was no breeze the smells were memorable. It is no longer.

This is one of my local courses and I've played it a few dozen times. It's a shame you only showed the first 4 holes because they are the least interesting holes on the course. This course is really not that bad and some of the holes are genuinely stunning. It gets slated unfairly and it had a bad reputation locally because it once cost twice or even three times what you paid in the video. You also HAVE to play it with a buggy because there are some very long gaps between holes and some of those walks are up steep hills. By the time you trudge up the hill to the 15th tee box you are spent if you've walked the course. Once you added a buggy to the cost of the round, it was about £100 per person which is too much. The 18th hole is quirky. It's dead straight with trees on either side and you play up towards the old Estate House which is an amazing view, even if you have seen it 20 times before. Heythrop Park is a large conference centre and hotel and they turned the old 9 hole course into 18 holes about 15 years ago. This must have cost a packet to do but they have not invested much in the course since so it can look a little tatty at times. I definitely recommend playing there if it's £35 and it is rarely busy. The staff are nice but we sometimes got the 'hard sell' to join up from the club pro whilst having a drink after each round and I suspect that their membership numbers are really low because it was not cheap to join and the place is a little bit soulless without a proper clubhouse etc. FYI, the planes you spotted are from the airfield at Enstone which is a few miles away, not Oxford Airport. It's also really close to the trendy hangout, Soho Farmhouse, so you might bump into David Beckham who lives next door and has been seen playing golf at Heythrop on a few occasions (apparently).

@@whackablemole Weather was pretty grotty on the day, but course in great nick. I really enjoyed it, some nice holes that you can play a few ways. Managed to get lost after the 8th hole, the tiny par 3 with the large mound left and tree right. It reminded me of Basildon (which is a nice track too)

This is no where near as bad as a local course I play at. The course is literally never watered so when you try and take even the smallest divot with your shot your club head literally stops in the ground. Not to mention that one of the par 5s isn't even marked and is just two par threes put together. Some holes have cups the size of grapefruits for some reason and the greens are as bumpy as the Tibetan mountain range. My ball jumped 2 inches off the ground a couple times when I was putting.

I’m not sure why some people “pile on” with negative comments. But that course looks very pretty. I often play courses that are lined by back yards, so the countryside setting is quite appealing. I think you should continue with your “Tour of the Worst”. You might find some real stinkers! But you might also find some more hidden gems!

At least that course has grass! Here in the San Diego area, we're in constant drought conditions so if the course doesn't have access to water, we play on dirt. The worst course I've played here is Goat Hill about 8 years ago. They've fixed it up now, thanks to John Ashworth, who brought it back from the dead. I've lost golf balls in massive gopher holes that you don't want to put your arm in for fear of rattlesnakes. The golf carts were death traps because they didn't have brakes. even still, I loved playing there because it is such a fun layout. I've fallen in love with many of these courses (Castle Creek, Eagle Crest, Oceanside Municipal) because they're still fun. You just have to move your ball to a patch of grass to hit it. They're usually dirt cheap too. I've thought about submitting the idea that the PGA should have one tournament a year that is played on these types of courses, the kind of courses that us working people play on. That would be a great way to grow the game. Most of us will never get to play Augusta National. Golf shouldn't be an elitist sport that only rich people play. You can have as much fun playing at your local muni course.

Think my least favourite course was called The Craythorne. Which used to be in Rollestone on Dove In all honesty it was a friendly little club, but it had two main things going against it. The layout was shall we say rather boring. With most of the fairways simply set out in an up, back, up, back, up back; fashion. And the second thing that was against it was the ground was constantly in a waterlogged condition. The course closed some years back. Where I now live, there are far less courses about. Lots have regrettably closed in the last decade. And certainly none on the doorstep so to speak. Meaning a course of any design quality would right now be extremely welcome. Especially if it had a driving range. Heck right now even a driving range within a couple of miles would be fantastic. I think where you played in this video looked fine. And I would love that course to be here on the edge of my town.

The hilarious part was driving the cart through the back 9 that had recently been retired and left to nature and all the tee markers were still in the tee boxes, and the pins were still standing on the greens.
