Great video - I live in the USA, but grew up in the UK and was a member of Woburn Golf Club and three great courses. Still my favorite of all time is the Hotchkin at Woodhall Spa.

RCD is a wonderful trek. played it last summer in interclub and the wind was mad. Lots of fun given i was a last minute call up and never played it before. The blind holes are some craic. If your coming get a caddy, you'll need it. Also to note we were playing Mourne GC, great lads.

Golf course design, clubhouse welcome & ambience, catering, location, experience on the day & one’s own preferences all shape these selections from the panel. Personal preference at Sunningdale would be the Old. Being able to see the Halfway House in the distance on that long Par 4 tee is worthy of it’s inclusion alone 🥓 🍳 🥪 Two most inspiring holes in golf (aside of 19th) is of course the 1st & 18th on the Old Course at St. Andrews. Mike summed it up perfectly. Spine tingling at the beginning of your round & ecstasy on 18th with the shoppers on Links Road cheering you on & an audience behind the green in front of R&A clubhouse. Perfect 👌

On the west coast there are some gems.. Connemara Ballinrobe Westport Oughterard Westport... Ireland is blessed with amazing courses..

Whilst based at RAF Leuchars I was a member of St. Andrews GC . The Old Course was part of my residents season ticket. The caddy master at the time was Davy Christie who used to get me to caddy when the Royal & Ancient Spring medal was on. My fond memory was caddying for Sir Douglas Bader, and also looked after Jack Nicklauses aircraft back on the base. My favourite was the New Course a little tougher than the Old. My 74 on the Old I will never forget !

Mike great memories from you..... and great that someone has given a mention to the New which none of these influencers on YT ever seem to play. Hop you have also had a chance to play other great Scottish courses - if you haven't been to Dornoch well that is a must-play!

Very tough too compile a top 10, top 50, top 100. All very subjective. Sunningdale is very worthy, The Berkshire is truly a great 36 hole layout. In my opinion Royal Birkdale is No 1.

Great review, we are blessed with so many great courses in the UK&I. Changes at Dornoch have been poorly conceived - more about the view than the golf - and they have lost one of the best golf holes that was on the course. Not sure it merits top 10 any more.

As Rob will know, I've played most of these, mainly on outings we were both a part of back in the '80s and '90s. For what it's worth, Rob, my heart still goes out to you for that disastrous par 3 you had during the first visit for us both to the St Andrews Old Course! Do you remember us sitting in a bar after the round, scorecards in hand, doing our "post-mortem", and the slow, dawning realisation that neither of us had even seen the enormous "Hell" bunker while playing the 14th? Maybe we were both a bit wayward or maybe dangers like that just lurk a few yards away on the Old course, cunningly hidden from sight. There are so many wonderful memories from these trips we had. It's great to hear each of you speaking about these wonderful golf courses. Have you considered similar videos for some of your other golf course reviews? Your passion for the game comes across clearly, even more so than in written reviews. We are blessed with an abundance of great golf courses all across the British Isles and, thankfully, some of these are still affordable for everyday players. Gone are the days when Rob & I, along with some golfing friends from work, paid only £20 each to experience 36 holes around Sunningdale Old & New. It saddens me, however, that the few remaining Open venues (past and present) I have not yet played are unlikely to be added to my list now due to the cost of playing there. Like most other golfers, I shall rely on your reviews to enjoy and appreciate them.

always find st andrews overrated - its a great course and there is a great feeling when you are there other courses are much better and what about ireland - portmarknock, lahinch, ballybunion, old head.....

Bucket list for those fortunate enough to have deep pockets. £2K-£3K for all a ten with top five in excess of £300 around if you want to play during the summer. Winter golf the way to go?

I played Strathyrum at Saint Andrews in 2019, and I think it was 35 pounds green fees and another 38 for club hire.

Had to cancel my membership at my local this year, it is getting scary expensive playing golf. Most of these courses on this list are £1000 for 4-ball & that is without expenses. Out of reach even for folk with a bit of money.

As usual ,the elite talking about the elite courses ,each player has his or her favourite, but listen lads best golf courses in UK and Ireland ,should be UK and Northern Ireland ie UK and UK . The Republic has some world ! Class golf courses and some great ones that are available to everyone. But hey dont tell anyone 😂🇨🇮

StAndrews as a golf course on its own…nothing to do with nostalgia….everyone and everyone I have asked it’s nothing special at all…it’s because it’s the home of golf…if history etc…absolutely number 1..I have played birkdale and hillside…St Andrews is know we’re near them as a golf course…it is massively over rated

Agree 100% St Andrews for me was a huge disappointment.. Whereas Royal Birkdale & Hillside (the alterations are spectacular) simply outstanding 👍🏻👍🏻

Yup indeed I was over in Dublin and played the Royal Island near the Airport, brilliant front nine,wonderful views,but when we entered the clubhouse the members put one in mind of a meeting of Senior primates at feeding time in Woburn Zoo !!

St Andrews the poorest course on the Open rota.. Take away “the home of golf” and it’s just meh. Far better links courses out there that’ll never see the Open..

Why do you never challenge the costs of the green fees of these elite courses…..are you frightened to upset golf grandees?…you discuss these courses like they are open to all, which they clearly arent!

These guys have forgotten who there audience is, Golf snobbery to the highest level. Only one of the courses they mentioned would let the average golfer play an that’s if they could afford it.
