Lots of stats surprise me. Lou Stagner posts different stats on Twitter. His shot dispersion patterns are eye opening. Of the stats you posted only hitting greens 70% of the time between 125-150 is eye opening. That’s a PW or GW. Most of us are disappointed if we don’t hit a green when we are hitting a PW, yet the best in the world miss 30% of the time! We need to adjust our expectations1

Spot on David. That Scott Spigot guy has a strategy system I’m not a fan of but he’s hilarious calling out announcers on Twitter when they say that junk like, “he should be hitting it inside of 10’ from 130 yards”… that junk just does’t align with the facts. Those announcers and their spurious pronouncements had me thinking I was far worse than I was.

Also remember when we are watching on TV we are seeing the players who are playing their best golf that week, sometimes the best golf they may ever play in their life. You don't see the round like Matt Wolfe had the other day. I get down sometimes but need to keep it fun. I prefer to try to play a best ball with my son if on a full course, work as a team or suggest doing simple 2v2 match when in a 4some with friends. Takes the pressure off individual scorekeeping, help keep it fun.

Really just shows how hard the game actually is. On tv we mostly just get the highlights where its always the best shots. And those shots are even more impressive knowing that even the pros can't hit them all the time. Lowering my expectations for a round has helped me mentally and actually score better.

20-10-8 Rule. My favorite cause I’m tough on myself when it comes to chipping. From 20 yards out in the rough, with at least 10 feet of green to work with, 50% of Tour Pros leave it outside of 8 feet. From 100-110 yards out, Tiger Woods missed the green 20% of the time!! Recalibrating our expectations makes the game more fun. Thanks Matt.

The most surprising stat for me is the best putters from 5’-10’ last year were 65% yet when most people miss 5’ putts they are stomping on the ground angry they missed an “easy putt” That means you will miss 35% of 5’ putts if you are the best in the world and that we are not. There’s such a misconception that anyone can putt. Yes anyone can physically putt but if you put in the work and have the correct mindset when putting there also has to be expectations on putting as well all other shots such as from 125-150yds

Your chipping is looking fantastic, and whatta double break birdie putt! My favorite stat is how longer irons/woods and drivers have such a wide left/right dispersion, but once you get within 125/100 yards it's just a matter of distance control most of the time. Even the pros stuggle with that and you see it all the time during tournaments

Yo Karen - straight from the USGA - Take your time fixing or filling divots. Regardless of the club used, replacing a divot is a simple act: find the dislodged turf and replace it, making sure to push the divot back into the scar with your foot to enhance rooting. However, if the divot explodes into pieces and cannot be replaced, fill the divot with the divot mix provided by the maintenance staff.

A fun course! Most interesting stats for me is how much the pros don't hit the hole. Many of my friends are disappointed when they miss the hole from six feet or twelve. But, same goes for Tour Pros! Of about 180 pros in a former PGATour stats, those hitting 50 % or more of their putts of 15 feet were just around 25 players => the vast majority holes less than half of those, what should a mere mortal expect!

I find it most surprising how often the pros miss from 5'+, but how much they make from 3' and closer. What is it about those 2-3 feet that makes it so much harder? My guess would be that it's because within 3' you can probably see the hole in your peripheral vision, and thus it's easier to align and commit, but that's just a guess on my behalf. Keep making this great content!

TV coverage tends to hop around between the contenders shooting 13 under and a few miracle shots from random players.

I remember when the Match Play event was out there. The fact they skipped a WGC event which is usually one of the highest purses a year says how much they hated it. I think sometimes the pros can be whiny at times, but other times the conditions are truly not fair and makes golf more lucky than based on skill. The last US Open at Shinnecock where they dried it out so badly it caused horrible conditions and made it unenjoyable to watch and play on if you could.

The most surprising tour stat to me is that they don't make as many GIRs and up and downs (esp from bunkers) than we think, and still come up with scores just a little more than par at the max. Most of us play pretty high above par, so expecting pro stats (but often overestimating what the pro stats actually are) is basically comparing "apples to terracotta pots" (quote from one of your old videos) is what we are actually doing. My expectations of myself should certainly be lower after learning those stats! I would have thought from closer distances certainly the green would be hit more with a closer pin proximity! Anyway for me, I assumed pros would hit greens with higher percentage and be closer to the hole. Average 3 putts distance pretty cool to know! I think the most surprising for me was the amount of bombs they drop though, I thought they'd hole more long putts than they really do! This course look amazing. I love the look of the Arizona courses, the dry, rocky, arid scenery mixed with a lush green course is really cool. Good round bro, some tasty shots in there! Looking forward to the next video. the most surprising stat for me was that you don't need to be a good putter.. if your approaches are all going close to the pin, then an average putter (but being good with approaches) will beat someone who's a good putter, but only average with approaches on most days (still talking about tour pro's).. I can recommend reading Mark Broadie's book "every shot counts" for many stats.

To me, the amount of putts that pros miss from inside 20/15/10/7 feet is really surprising. The guys on Sunday you watch seem to be making putts from everywhere, but that's why they are winning that particular event.
