Your motors unreal forces upon your transmission going one way, then being ripped and snatched in the opposite direction while you are still gripping the road? No... @@traininggrounds9450 Sure they do that too, but you have to understand just how expensive this stuff is, even with sponsors they have to come out of pocket for basic stuff. Tires are basic items. To make money instead of breaking even or worse you have to conserve. These are not Tycoons. Most of these are regular people, some of which are in debt beyond your imagination. The ones that still look like trucks in the inside? I would not doubt some of them use to go to work. Hahahaha! Trust me when I say, it was probably their idea to hose everything down. When you have to pay 5 to 700 per tire, and drop a couple of grand for rear ends, transmissions, and snapped axles, your tune changes really fast. When people break their stuff, and hop out and cheer, that is just show. At a Mud Hole you can feel the anguish through the smiles and showmanship. Many die on the inside.

All of those trucks including the M1070 have blowers on them,all of the 6V-92 and 8V-92 have them.But the HEMTT and PLS had a 8V-92 TA,with one turbo charger,the HET has a 8V-92 TT,with two turbo chargers.Those two trucks also always had the mechanical 8V-92,and so did the M911 CHET way back then.The M1070 HET in 1991 was introduced with the DD-92 after using the 8V-92 itself in early years,and the Army use to have no governors on them,so you could run the Detroit at 2,750 RPM until they went with the 2,100 RPM limit.The DDEC Detroits had Common Rail Fuel Injection and Turbo/Electronic Compressors on them,that was the difference from the original engines they had been using for years.

wildcoyote I was out of town this weekend and did some thinking about some of the work you have done to you HEMTT, that trans swap had to be a huge undertaking, and I am sure the word huge doesn't even start to describe that, getting that linkage in order to the point of where it would actually work, I just plain wouldnt even know where to start on THAT project. You obviously have some pretty extreme fabrication abilities wildcoyote. I can see the engine and that part I think I would be OK with, I am guessing you had to fabricate all new mounts, of let me re-state THAT, fabricate all new EXTREMELY STRONG NEW engine mounts, 700 HP and torque specs I can only guess had to be interesting!! If you ever get a cnance wildcoyote send me some pics my email address is karl.kostman@netcenter.net, i would love to see them!!!! karl
@wildcoyote346 жыл бұрын
it actually wasn't that hard from an engineering standpoint ,, i actually don't have a lot of fabrication experience the gear shifter in the cab has a pair of wobble rods that pull and push the shifter on the transmission ,it was actually harder adjusting the linkage after it was made than it was building it ,, I copied a shift linkage from a 5 speed car that had a remote shifter I am entirely self taught as far as welding and fabrication ,,and have always liked building stuff as for the engine mounts I had to make a transmission support bar and had to relocate the 8V92 engine mounts 3 inches forward but other than that it wasn't hard ,,, the stock engine specs say that a 12V-71T makes 525HP at 2100 rpm and 1450 LB/Ft of torque at 1600 rpm mine dynoed 701HP at 2600 and 1700 Lb/Ft at 1700 ,,it's got slightly oversize injectors and the timing has been slightly tweaked and the governor turned up 500 rpm ,,the big addition that made the most difference was a pair of variable geometry turbos built by Blaylock 80mm turbine opening in actuality the way my engine is set up it's very close in line with a C15 CAT engine ,, weight and power are similar ,,,eventually i will want a C15 engine or whatever i can get ,, that's a few years in the future

The only thing that can win a tug o war with an 8x8 is an Abrams tank

All the trucks there pulling together couldn't take that military truck one on one no chance
@gabrieljordan99774 жыл бұрын
At the beginning the 8x8 was not even in 8wd and it was just standing still while the other truck was trying to drag it

CAT engine and Allison transmission....idk what made people think theyd succeed...have fun and try yes...but your not going to move that WRKR unless the driver wants you to.

Oshkosh didn't even try. The 2nd one you can see that it was driving in its rear wheels.

LOL some folks must not be able to figure MATH? I own a HEMTT the truck empty weighs 39,000 pounds is fully capable of full 4 diff lock for true 8 wheel drive, the Detroit in my truck produces 500 HP, now lets figure I have a pickup that puts out 8000 hp and 7500 ft pounds of torque and I hook that to the HEMTT, your still going to lose because you have no traction. NOBODY is going to win over the HEMTT!

boy you got that right ,, nothing beats pure MASS + Massive Traction it's one awesome beast to own and drive ,,I know because i own one too ,, damned beast ,,mine is no longer equipped with the original 8V92 ,,, when i bought mine the 92 was very sick , had been overheated and had 3 melted pistons ,,I borrowed the engine and 18 speed fuller transmission from a 1980 freightliner ,,12V-71 TT it's geared much higher than the Allison 4500 it had originally ,,and has better fuel economy and higher top speed by about 10MPH , it'll almost touch 80mph if i run the engine a bit hot ,,but easily reaches 72 on the highway I use it as a scrap metal hauling truck , i can haul 10 tons out of the nastiest terrain imaginable and can pull 20 more on a trailer

What year is the hemtt you own?

the vehicle i own is a very early production unit it was built in december 1982,pretty sure it is an M977-A0 part of the very first production run ,,it doesn't have any of the electronic equipment later M977A2/A4 trucks have I actually honestly don't know much about it other than what the paperwork I got from the auction said ,,it had been demilitarized in 1995 and it had been stored in oregon of all places ,i know it was rusted to shit when i got it ,,and it took 3 years to return it to operational roadworthy condition ,i got it in 2002 ,and it hadn't been driven in 8 years at least ,,and it was totally stripped of hardware ,,the only thing remotely military related left was the 7.5 ton grove folding crane at the rear

wildcoyote34 sounds like a good find. I wish it had that cat motor though. Million times better than the Detroit.
@wildcoyote346 жыл бұрын
that is a planned upgrade for the future ,, I have done a lot of work to it and it no longer has the 8V-92 currently it has a 12V71 TT that's putting out 700HP ,,C15 cat is a good motor too but very expensive if you can find one , the way i have it set up now i can install whatever engine i feel like because i switched to a manual transmission ,, and i wanna tell you that was one hell of a challenge making that shift linkage but the 18 speed has an advantage too allowing for a much higher top speed and much better fuel economy , i can easily get 6mpg compared to the 2-3 mpg stated in the oshkosh literature
