You always have to respect an elder or an original, it was more dramatic and adult themed but Voltron was more light hearted, humerous and the music, wow, the music just was awesome, and when the intro and battle scenes started it just... it just pumped you up! Anyway no reason to argue which is better we have both to enjoy and perhaps experience a different version... After all its entertainment ,enjoyment and fun! Let's GO VOLTRON! GOLION!!!

I know that the Japanese version is Golion. But for some reason, I can't help but to think of the lyrics going like "Go! Go! Lion Voltron!" Mainly because that's how I came to know the series back then through the edited English dub we were given in the US. But I have respect for both versions.

The only thing Voltron and Go Lion have in common are shared animation scenes. The stories, music, names, hell even part of the animation, was changed, and made American for Voltron. Voltron is an American creation, using most of Go Lion's animation scenes!

Usually US butchering of anime is cringe inducing trash, but in this case the *incredible* and pulse raising music from the Voltron version of this show is far and away superior.

turbohusque I feel like there are extremely few anime from what is arguably the golden age of Japanese TV animation (70s and 80s) that actually had good music in their intro sequences. The vast majority is just awful, and even shows with fondly remembered music like Yamato still had lackluster intros. Similarly, the Japanese version of Mysterious Cities of Gold is an absolute joke compared to the American / Euro version. Yet somehow, the incidental music used throughout the standard anime was quite nice-only the intros themselves disappointed. Fortunately, Japan figured out how to do intros by the late 80s and early 90s, with Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, Nadia, etc.

Many in the Mecha-Robo universe of the 80s had dope intros as well: Votoms (a personal favorite) spectacular intro, Dairugger XV, SeiJuushi Bismarck, GodMars and a few others. I feel like you haven’t been immersed enough into the golden age of anime to know of any good songs.

More like this ripped off sentai, which originated in the '70s and is still going on today. GoLion and Voltron respectively came out in 1981 and 1984. But sentai didn't have giant robots until the 1978 Japanese Spider-Man TV show inspired them to add mecha.
