Seems as if you folks there at Facts Verse are not familiar with the popular TV show, That Girl, with Marlo Thomas. Ted Bessell was the 2nd lead behind Ms Thomas. Also starred Ronnie Schell. The show "Gomer Pyle" couldn't have been started in a worse year, i.e. 1964, for one that depicted life in the U.S. Marine Corps! I had just completed my basic training & short active duty in the Army National Guard in July & the Vietnam 'war' was just escalating after the "Gulf of Tonkin" incident then! So a show that would last 6 or more years, without ever mentioning it or having active duty Marines never being "called up" was preposterous Yet, if viewers could ignore this huge discrepancy, it was a good show for the time!
