The first 3 seasons of this show are something else..... nothing compares. One of the most beautiful, brutal shows I have ever seen.

Genny’s sudden transformation from being a spoilt, (mostly) harmless lummox who even prays at the shrine of the drug addict he’s forced to kill, to being a dead - eyed, ruthless killer, just as bad as his father, is one of the most unconvincing parts of this series. The makers of Gomorrah really should have done a better job with that. Oh, and on a related note, I had a good laugh at the newspaper review of Gomorrah which described Genny as being “built like a coastal gun emplacement.”

well it's not sudden if you think about: he was tricked by his own mother into meeting a drug cartel in a jungle in the other side of the world, then she abandoned him there because he wasn't fit to lead the clan, afterwards he was forced to kill and dismember a man in exchange for saving his own life, and had to live with his own captors until he was able to make it home by himself. I'd say that's stuff that, if you were the type of person Genny was, will leave you scars for a lifetime

I love the series but also found it unconvincing too.

@@nge1556 I agree with you. I imagine an experience like that could be life changing in such a fashion that would leave a person forever altered. Imo it would actually would make less sense for him to go back to being the spoiled harmless lummox of a son he was before after such an ordeal.

What? Salvatore Esposito was amazing as the ruthless mob boss AND the weakling. His performance along with the rest of the cast is part of the reason of the show's succes
