Imagine in DBZ when Goku goes Super Saiyan the first time, but instead of showing it, the narration voice just goes: And so Goku was so mad at the sight of his best friend dying, all that cumulation of losses and frustration built up instead, Goku's veins starts to pop as his anger overwhelms his emotions. In a blinking flash, his hair suddenly turns yellow as he gives a cold and bloody scream. He had ascended into another level.

I never really did get the perspective of people saying that Gon is becoming less human and more ant while Pitou is the opposite. Letting intense emotion (such as rage) take hold and control you is the most human thing possible imo. As for Pitou, all she was really trying to do in this scene was to carry out the King's order, which is the most ant-like thing that I can think of. Pitou confirms this herself when she declarse that Komugi is "someone who is important to someone important to her." Komugi, in and of herself, doesn't really mean much to Pitou. If the King hadn't ordered Pitou to save Komugi, Pitou wouldn't have batted an eye as Komugi lay dying.

Agreed, I've always found that idea bogus, trying too hard to find patterns where there are none. In trying to prove that Gon isn't perfectly good, people go overboard and actually reduce the nuance in his character, practically making him seem like some alternate Hisoka. Here, the boy was simply on the old revenge path, consumed by rage. That he was willing to hold Komugi hostage, is a testament to his resolve to "get Kite back" -- characters in revenge stories often do much worse. Besides, not only did Gon not know/care about the girl, but also anyone that's so important to a monster like the King, is unlikely to be a good person, and thus unlikely to be worth saving.

Exactly! People like to say he's a 'monster' (probably bc it sounds cool idk) but don't understand what it means or Gon's character at all, even though everything is in the dialogue First of all, the word in JP translated as monster "kaibutsu" doesn't have the same meaning as the ENG word (btw 3:31 Gon uses the word "bakemono" also translated as monster, it shows that translation can't be 100% accurate), but even if the translation is kinda misleading, it just makes sense for Gon to experience those very human emotions given the trauma he just went through IRL if your friend or family member just got killed (worse! you think it's your fault bc they protected you) and the killer used their body for sick experiments so they're not even dead but their soul is gone ...and if you had hope that you can still fix it but the killer begs you to show compassion bc they have to save their precious person, basically just putting yourself in Gon's shoes I believe anyone would go crazy Gon's reaction and words "WTH??! How dare you? it's unfair...why should I care for your feelings when you didn't care about the person you killed and those who cared about him??" it totally makes sense and this is a human response, no animal/beast/monster would feel that kind of emotion... He's going through the worst kind of grief and he's a 12 years old kid experiencing this for the first time in the HxH world which makes the whole situation even crazier When people are grieving and going through the anger phase they often say hurtful words to other people bc they believe no one understand what they're going through and they're right, it's a very personal thing... 2 people living the same loss, like a dad and a mom losing their child or 2 kids losing a parent or 2 persons losing a common friend, would react differently. Gon is right, Killua is able to stay levelheaded bc his feelings towards Kite were different (also Killua is way more used to death) so he's able to stay calm and reasonable and see that listening to Pitou is the better option... but Gon is too affected and even so he's self-aware, he realizes that he's not in the right state of mind but he doesn't want to be reasonable in that moment bc it hurts too much 3:06 he even thought Pitou was torturing Komugi and got those images of what possibly happened to Kite (double trauma) 6:05 Pitou wants the king to stay "who he is"....hearing those words when Kite is not himself anymore bc of Pitou must drive him crazy with anger...Pitou who still barely understands human emotions(8:36 "this thing") doesn't realize the audacity of those words 11:00 Gon was already thinking "I don't care anymore".. here is the prologue of his physical transformation but he still stopped bc of Killua's words so Killua was definitely useful..sadly he wasn't there the 2nd time... Gon is a "kaibutsu" bc he's able to do THAT with nen, bc of his extraordinary potential, not bc he's not human inside what he said to Killua wasn't ok (glad he apologized), saying that he has it easy and that he doesn't care was mean, but I understand he wasn't in a good place at the moment having to swallow his rage for Kite's sake...grieving is harder for the one who's the closest to the deceased, but those around suffer as well that's just how it is

Jesus christ, Gon really went through the worst possible self-conflict. He shows up planning to kill an unfeeling monster that sees humans as food and toys, and finds Pitou doing everything she can to save the life of a HUMAN CHILD, expressing genuine emotions and concern for her. Not only is the target of Gon's hate nothing like he expected, but, as good-natured as he is, he can't reconcile that a person so willing to take a life for no reason other than because they feel like is now concerned for a non-Ant. Also, that face 10:54 is wild. I feel like part of Gon wants to flat out kill Komugi, just so Pitou can experience loss the way he did.

It’s such a powerful moment, also because I think it’s deeply relatable fundamentally. The feeling of overwhelming rage, being pumped up with adrenaline, teetering in the edge of control. So angry, so many emotions and no place to express them. The frustration that comes with impotent rage is so well depicted. And ofcourse the way that the characters bounce off of each other is noteworthy too. It’s a culmination of killua and Gons respective trajectories. Killua is at his core DEEPLY human. And Gon deep down is not. Or to put it a better way killua is a sensitive young boy who just wants friends and Gon is less of a boy and more of a well mannered, well behaved sociopath, that’s throwing a tantrum because something was taken from him.

Pitou not only killed Kite, but also turned him into a toy. You talked like Kite was some fking toy to Gon and called him a sociopath. The irony.

The whole anime is pretty much symbolisms and foreshadows. Notice it's their 2nd encounter and Pitoue notices Gon in the same manner as the first, turning around. Difference being that now the roles have reversed.

Killua knew Kite was dead from the beginning. that's why he's stronger. he takes reality heads on. and here when once again reality hits and cut them in the face, he deals with them again. he's got the artistry and the instinct, and he got the whole " dealing with pain without self-destructing" to a science. poor Gon just don't have the experience. pain makes you grow up.

I love the parallels between gon and pitou, and how one is gaining their humanity and the other is losing it. But i like to put myself in gon shoes as a adult and i don't think it would be much different than how he would react now. Seeing someone kill someone close to you, who knows that will keep on killing, and then when you finally confront them and have the chance to exact your revenge they say you can't because they're also saving someone they love, i don't think anyone filled with rage and anger would think rationally at this point.

Hate to say this but after rewatching HxH for a bunch of times and seeing this episode again, I somehow convince that Gon is kinda stubborn and sometimes he loses reasoning. Don't hate me here 😅. I know he's just a kid. As the previous episodes especially in the hunter exam arc, he has this mad respect and morale when it comes to battles. But seeing this is kinda annoying for me.

the thing about gon is that he isn't even a teen at this time, he was a child who grew up mostly relying on and trusting his instincts. He's quite literally a child with waaaay too much will power, and potential without the emotional strength. It's just that he wasn't faced with many personal moral delima's up until this point since he's so trustworthy. He never lost anything important that wasn't physically a part of him, but you see peeks at how he'd react to loss like when he lost his badge and hisoka gave it back, when he failed to beat Knuckle, and greatest being when he lost Kite who was the entire reason he found his goal in the first place.
