Just finished the book it was awesome! Also thank goodness Reece Witherspoon isn't playing Amy!

Reese Witherspoon sold the rights (I believe) because she thought that the dark themes of the book and film wouldn't work with her image. That's why she isn't going to be in the movie

Dude, everyone says they hate the last half of the book. I hate the first half. It's sooo drawn out. I'm hoping it gets better. Losing motivation to read it.
@bondmike00710 жыл бұрын
I liked the second half and the ending. Since thats the moment in which things become interesting, (for me), because she makes you believe something that it really isn't what you thought to be. That is what makes a good novel (in my opinion)

so I've started reading this book and am on page 200 and I actually really hate it. Only reading because my sister wants me to, and I want to find out what happens to Amy. I don't know what it is, I know this is supposed to be a dark story, and the writing is ok, but I just find it gets worse and worse, darker and darker. I like some moments of light in a story. The only characters I like in it are Go and Amy. Even if the twist is that Amy is really evil, or she set Nick up or whatever the ending is, then I can totally understand why she acting the way she is! maybe nick has a split personality? lol maybe It will be something totally unpredictable or totally surprising that will save this book for me altho if people saying the end and second half of the book is bad, then I doubt it! I just find it really slow too, I find myself putting the book down and not picking it up for a couple of days, and it puts me in a really bad mood! I'm not enjoying this at all, but I will struggle to the end to see if I can see what all the fuss is about! I can actually see that actress playing Amy.

You mention that you ended up despising one of the two main characters but I must say I actually despised them both...but that doesn't mean I didn't LOVE the book because I did. Also, I took your advice and read Sharp Objects and Dark Places first and I agree that it is the best way to go about it!

I'm a few chapters in and I keep waiting for something to happen. Though I loved her other books so I'm sticking it out. Btw I would classify Gillian Flynn's books as mystery.

I just found your channel today, so I'm sorry if you have already read this book I'm going to recommend.. The Girl on the Train. LOVE LOVE LOVED it! it's by Paula Hawkins. I had a bit of a "readers block" and just started reading again, it was definitely a good to get me going. It was one of those I couldn't put down :)

Team Nick or Team Amy...that's the question you have to ask yourself... This was a great read...Also, on the view, I believe one of the co-host said "you can make a part two of this book"...just think a part two of "gone girl"...I'm also waiting for the movie to come out..I can't wait until it does and see if it does the writing justice...

How do you feel about Japanese fiction? I think maybe you might like Natsuo Kirino, especially "Out". It's a kind of dark and gritty thriller in the most non-shitty sense of the word :) Looking forward to reading this one soon!

Good review. I did a video review on this novel yesterday, but I finished reading the novel around the middle of last month. Very enjoyable read, the mystery genre might be the best category to place it in, and I agree, it's hard to say too much without giving away important plot points. Unconventional ending, but I loved it, can't think of a better way to end the novel. Ever read any Lionel Shriver? She's amazing. I'm currently reading Big Brother.

I've only read Sharp Objects and I absolutely loved it. I think maybe the Millenium Trilogy by Steigg Larson could help fill the void for you. They're not overtly similar but something about them reminds me of Flynn's writing.

That 'slap in the face' moment was pretty irritating at first, but mostly because I'm always guessing what's going to happen while I read, and once it gets to that bit you realise there is no way you can possibly know one of the characters properly, so therefore any predictions about the story that you had are founded on knowledge you don't have. However like you said, after the initial shock I agree that it was very enjoyable! I read it because of the hype, and it turned out to be great

Gone Girl is the first Gillian Flynn book I've read so I guess I'll be reading them in reverse. When I reviewed it on my blog someone recommended Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes as something similar so that might be worth checking out.

Gone Girl is a feminist rant that seeks to prove that men are just hapless fools compared to the average woman. Amy is billed as Amazing and easily outmaneuvers her husband, as well as all other men. The reader gets the impression Nick couldn’t even tie his shoes.

Hey everyone, I'm currently away on vacation and without internet (I went to B&N to upload this), so I'll respond to comments when I am back home.
