Watching this made me realize how effective flame thrower would be in the middle ages hah.
@CoffeeSnep6 жыл бұрын
Darko Kreculj incendiary weapons were used in various forms to some extent throughout most of history. And yes, some of them were quite effective. Especially against dense formations or strongholds. Plate armor and gambeson would keep the flames away, but the heat would transfer pretty quickly. You could probably walk off a little bit of fire no problem, but if you can't get out or can't get it off of you quickly than you're screwed. I can't remember when, but primitive flamethrowers were used in ancient times. Mainly in naval warfare. The most famous example i have found was the use of Greek Fire by the Byzantine Empire starting in AD 672. It was most similar to napalm and could burn while floating on water. And yes, sometimes it would be projected and funneled in a way similar to a flamethrower, albeit not as compact.

Claus with A K the weight depends on the suit of armor your are talking about, funny but later suits like the full plated gothic armor actually weight's less than the older stiles. Now talking about mobility.....it doesn't restrict you that much, you can actually see demonstrations in youtube, just tipe "medieval armor mobility" and you will see a lot of results.
@franktheprank73366 жыл бұрын
Claus with A K and about overheating, well that the only point I would give you, breathing in a full suit of armor starts to get really difficult after some time, luckily for us people in medieval times noticed this so later suits of armor started to have things like visor's that you can take on and off without disarming it.

Black also has the idea of attacking the lower arms of his opponent to weaken grip and potentially damage output, but he seems to have lost some steam to Blue's consistent body attacks as well.

So a lot of people are bashing on this video saying they have no skill they're just bashing away at each other. As someone who practices historical swordsmanship, i can see these guys are skilled at what they do, they're just playing a different game. From what i can tell the purpose of the tournament is to land as many blows on your opponent as you can. They're not trying to kill or disable each other, but particuarly in the exchange starting at around 3:00, you can see they're blocking and parrying each other decently well. They know what they're doing, they're just not playing the game you think they are.

How are there not deaths from this sport?
@GONGGiOrNoGi8 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of deaths, but they bury them in secret directly in theirs armors...
@beakerthefrog8 жыл бұрын
Because they aren't permitted to fight as they actually would in this situation. You don't "cut" at someone wearing plate. You use blunt force trauma, and grappling to thrust through joint gaps and eye slits. They generally didn't use swords against armored targets either. Pole-axes, maces, and flails were the norm.
@GodlessMartyr6668 жыл бұрын
beakerthefrog I'm just worried someone will catch a blunt tip in the wrong spot or get hit hard enough on the head (even with a helmet and skull cap) to get seriously hurt.. Hopefully they don't use anything bigger than a dull broad sword
@beakerthefrog8 жыл бұрын
Concussions happen from time to time I'm sure, and those can be potentially fatal, but other than that it would take something intentional, like trying to thrust through the eyeslits, which is both very difficult and very illegal. The worst that probably happens is a broken limb or two from bad falls.

So I get these are not real battles and all. But what's the point? Just clashing steel? As an MMA fan, I'm trying to figure out what's considered a hit or a point. All I see is steel clashing on purpose.

@romainburgy9085 жыл бұрын
@loic51425 жыл бұрын

@trazyianajones4566 жыл бұрын
Terrifying and ridiculous at the same time
@yaleksander426 жыл бұрын
No, because if it was an actual fight to the death it'd be waaay different. This is basically sword tag for brutes. Not saying they don't have any technique, but the rules for this sport make it look ridiculous. If they wanted to kill each other they'd try grappling and getting a dagger through the gaps of the opponent's armor. Or half swording. Or using an actual battlefield weapon, like a polearm. Longswords weren't main battlefield weapons, because they're not really effective against armor.
@loic51425 жыл бұрын
@@yaleksander42 Real swords are very heavy ^^ You can break bones with this. Armor or not.
@yaleksander425 жыл бұрын
@@loic5142 not with full plate armor, you can't. Longswords are not heavier than 2kg and their weight distribution is very close to the hilt. If it was that easy to break bones, these guys would've hurt themselves pretty badly already
