To state the obvious: I have Bear’s flumies - and his instructions/caveats packaged with them were pretty clear: not to press too hard, and support the mallet head with your thumb for the large flumies. I can’t imagine playing a gong without them, they add so many different dimensions to sound. Appreciate the suggestions about flumie size vs gong size. I keep experimenting and try to take notes when I come up with something memorable or (pardon the pun) that resonates. It’s hard to come up with a verbal description because the gongs are evocative and abstract. Thank you for addressing the space between, or what is somewhat analogous to negative space, for example that which is necessary to composition artwork. Gongs sounds tell a story -as do all musical instruments.
