+Gideon Okun This is the weight for weight most powerful of all stomatopods, if they got larger like the bigger smashers they would be very dangerous and pose great risk to tanks not designed to with stand them.

Kinda makes you think how crummy the human body is when it comes to combat. No offense, no defense, can't really get a deep bite on anything. Then nature comes along like ; Ok, so i'ma give this thing two massive claws. Seems to be missing something. Oh i know! Full body plate armor. Perfect! Now for the shrimp. Giant hammer.. NO.. TWO giant hammers!

I was wondering what you think about the Xenidea family coral?I had a pulsing xenia that was very nice.I never really knew anyone who had them that actually"pulsed".I think mine did because i used to have ocd water quality lol,and lots of circulation.Also I noticed the corals in your tank,and wanted to know if you propagate them?Thanks for the reply!
@MantismanTM
@MantismanTM 8 жыл бұрын
RSX type S mobbin their a nice coral fairly basic and simple care levels I have never kept them but I have seen mates who have and theirs pulsed at same time I have seen others who did not pulse so Im not sure about the mechanics behind the pulsing... The mushies I propagated very simple solit in half make sure a bit of mouth is on each half.

What type of lights do u use Kharn? Also what smashers are prone to shell rot beside O. Scyllarus?? Thanks and great vid as always!
@MantismanTM
@MantismanTM 10 жыл бұрын
I just upgraded my lights to ReefBreeder Photons, LED Fixtures. (Shell Rot is more about Water Quality then actual lighting, light is simply the catalyst that allows it to spread fast if the it is present in the water, if the water is very clean then the disease simply will not be present, thus the lights will not react with anything that isn't present). The most prone to shell rot that I know of is actually H.californiensis, this species simply shouldn't be kept in an aquarium at all, they succumb fast...next up would be the O.scyllarus however they can thrive in lit reefs with adequate water quality (think water to grow SPS, if the water is at that quality then an O.scyllarus won't have a problem with shell rot but will still need very well thought out premade burrows. G.ternatensis is another that can get shell rot but this species should be avoided in general. There aren't that many "large" smashers and it's only the "Large smashers" that are known to really be afflicted by the disease, nearly all species 90mm or less are immune to it because they live in bright, parameter fluctuating zones, like the coastline/rock pools etc.

***** Their a species that likes to hang out in a specific type of coral and the coral is often destroyed in the process of seeking out the animal...the trade off is not worth it when such devastation is reaped during an attempted collection.

Wow, the mantis has some serious moves...the crab got one or two pinches in but the mantis tail is a seriously underrated weapon. It has spines and quite thick and can easily draw blood. But it helps them against other mantis shrimp clubs and that's saying something. They are quick too with almost cat like agility in the water.

20th Nov 2017 Hello Fans I am still alive I need to set something straight as I know some of you are worried/frustrated with my channel. Firstly, I will state that I am obviously still alive (no mantis got me yet!) and yes my channel is still very much active irregardless of what it appears. So what's been happening? I've had to make new plans and abandon my overseas mantis shrimp ventures not because of funding or anything like that but because it turned into a nightmare that I certainly did not foresee prior to setting up overseas (I knew there was going to be difficulties but nothing on the level of 'discrimination' that I endured)... The overseas part of what I do was meant to go for a few more years but I grew tired of spending half of my 6months overseas on each trip, repairing, rebuilding the mantis shrimp system and I kept finding that by the time it was all up and running I'd only have 1-2months left of each 6month trip to actually photo/film mantis shrimp in the tanks... I wasn't meant to come 'home' until I achieved a certain 'level' overseas but due to the difficulties I have been forced to cut my losses short and return 'home' now this does NOT mean it's all over and I've given up...far from it. The overseas part of what I'm doing was exactly that, an inevitable 'part' that was to be overcome and then 'finished' so that I can return 'home' and continue, the return 'home' signified my largest, most expensive, state of the art, insane mantis shrimp system that was to be built in a few years time except due to the Overseas failure my hand has been forced to move forward faster and thus... I have begun building here at 'home' my biggest and greatest mantis shrimp aquarium system to date, sparing no expense and utilizing only the best equipment that you generally don't find in aquarium stores due to their price (due to their quality) but far more than the aquarium system alone is the Digital Studio built into the room designed professionally and specifcally for the professional filming and photography of mantis shrimp! I hope to have it all finished/built with water running and mantis hunting by the Feb-Mar next year, it is a monstrous build that encompasses so much more than a mere fish tank... What this new aquarium studio will allow for me is to finally create videos daily/hourly for uploading with minimal downtime which is it what we all really want and on top of the sheer quantity, the quality will be only the best, I've invested far more into the studio than into the aquarium itself, because I utterly REFUSE to use cheap nasty cameras like mobile phones etc. the amount I've spent and continue to spend on the studio alone just to make the best footage for YOU!... :D It's ALLLLL for you guys LOL there is no catch 22! Your patience... Your dedication... Your understanding... Means the world to me and once I'm up and photographing/filming again I will reward you with sights and sounds of stomatopods that you have yet to ever SEE BEFORE!

Don't dismiss the crab :) Stomatopods are not immortal they aren't invincible and I/they have certainly had their share of scares and close calls....it's a risk to the Stomatopod as much as it is to the crab. Also I personally believe that to keep and care for such an intelligent organism (Stomatopods) would be cruel to NOT allow them to utilize their intelligence by offering them challenges. Finally, they do NOT survive on live food, in fact Live Food is a very very small part of their diet, 90-95% of feedings are prepared foods.
