i love this song, especially the guitar solo towards the end of the song. The guitars remind me of the song big machine. They sound just like the song big machine.

+SmashdudeTM The Pin, and both of Takac's tunes Free of Me and Prayer in my Pocket are by far the best. So Alive isn't that bad, but Souls in the Machine sounds like the Goo Goo Dolls we have known, it sounds like a late 90's early 2000's song.
@CrescentWrench7608 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Kowal (Matt102490) I wouldn't say it sounds like the 90's...it definitely sounds more like Magnetic if Magnetic used more guitar.

Guys come on, I know we all miss the Superstar Car Wash days but you have to get used to the idea that their music will never sound like that again and that doesn't make their new music bad! This album is amazing and like every other GGD album it has its own style!
@jpodftw8 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Their old stuff was great and just because their new stuff doesn't have quite the same sound doesn't mean it's not good!

+J Pod People forget they have been around over 20 yrs now....they are in their 50's now...so of course their music is going to evolve and change. I love their new stuff just as I did their old music...I love the Boxes album.

The songs on the album that sound like the Goo Goo Dolls we know from the 1990's to the early 2000's are Over and Over, this one, The Pin, Free of Me, Prayer In My Pocket, and So Alive. John Rzeznik and Robby Takac will always write the greatest lyrics since they have a theme and meaning as long as they live. They will always make at least one song that has their touch or a few every album. Goo Goo Dolls will never die, but I'll let this album slide, but I want their sound and touch back for all the songs because there will be a few that will not have it while the rest do.
@davidshann428 жыл бұрын
so alive sounds nothing at all like their older work
@adamgipe32848 жыл бұрын
I think the whole album doesn't sound like them. It's them lyrically, but I think musically, they were covered up by keyboard and all that bullshit. I like the album, but it almost sounds like to me that the record company and all those people tried to make their sound closer to other artists of today. I think a pure acoustic version of this album would sound amazing. I just don't like all the electronic shit added too it

"Souls in the Machine" Lyrics by #GoOgooDolls† All this time I was losing control Chasing a life that would steal my soul Too many faces, too many lies Too many hands trying to steal this prize We all got *demons* We all get scared On our knees hoping someone cares And all we need is a little honesty right now We're still waiting We are, we are, we are the soul in the machine We are, we are When you look up at the bright stars We are apart of everything We are, we are Every breath's a moment Every moment is a chance to live again This hope is burning like fire in my veins When the fear is gone and *the truth remains* *People are gusts* We've got so much to give, yeah So many dreams So much to live for When life gets hard, we get brave We all get scared, it's okay We are, we are, we are the soul in the machine We are, we are When you look up at the bright stars We are apart of everything We are, we are Every breath's a moment Every moment is a chance to live again When you hear it coming Oh it feels like falling When you find your calling Don't be afraid darling I know you'll always be brave When you hear it coming Oh it feels like falling When you find your calling Don't be afraid darling I know you'll always be brave Can you hear it calling? Oh it feels like falling And then you find your calling Don't be afraid Darling be brave

If 'Big Machine' was consider the 'disco song', this song should be considered the 'country song'. :)
@jargusti8 жыл бұрын
When John talked about writing 'Big Machine' he used a generic, pre-programmed drum beat on a drum machine entitled 'disco', so his working title for 'Big Machine' was the 'disco song' before he wrote the lyrics.

I heard the opening chords and new it was going to be my favourite on the album. It just has the sound that makes the GGD unique. I like the other songs on the album a lot too, I'm pretty open minded when it comes to music and I respect how they've changed. They're not doing it to sell out, they're doing it because it's the kind of thing they like at the moment. This song feels like more of a throwback to the old sound around Gutterflower, mixed with their newer style and I like it a lot. I also like Reverse, Boxes and Lucky One, probably more than the rest. (although Long Way Home is really good too...) Basically I like all of them XD
