People give Trump a hard time, but he rates cards based on how much play he thinks they'll see in constructed, which means he basically has to predict the meta. He said in his review that defile is a great card, he just have it 1 star because he didn't think control warlock would be a thing. Yes, he was wrong, but I think most people probably would have agreed with him at the time.
@TheSquareOnes7 жыл бұрын
That's still a dumb way to review cards though, because they don't only exist for that narrow sliver of time that he's trying to predict. They exist in standard for two years and in every other format forever, it's very short-sighted to completely ignore any consideration for how the cards might perform in the future. There are countless examples of this throughout the history of the game where a card is deemed weak and unable to see play then becomes a staple in a top-tier deck 1-3 expansions later because new synergies are constantly being introduced and discovered. Hell, a meme 5-drop from six expansions ago started blowing wild to piece just a few weeks ago. You learn so much more about how the game works by trying to look at possible scenarios where cards are good and bad rather than just trying to guess if people will play them frequently during a particular four month period.
@Syrange137 жыл бұрын
Cyan Light Fair point. All I'm saying is he's doing his own thing with the reviews, and his thing is arguably much more difficult than what everyone else is doing. Whether or not you like it is just a matter of taste, and kind of beside the point.

Jeewoong Chang Well said.
@TheSquareOnes7 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. That's definitely true that absolutely anything can be made powerful with appropriate synergy, we literally just had a stonetusk boar meta a few months ago. That being said you can still make reasonable predictions fairly reliably just by knowing what sorts of things have historically been good, why they have been good and what a card that doesn't appear to be good now would need to exist for it to become good. For example, we're talking about defile. Defile is obviously an amazing card, like possibly the one of the strongest AoEs printed so far. So why wouldn't it be good? Well, if slow warlock decks see any play at all then it will see play so presumably it's only bad in a world where slow warlock decks never see play ever again. Since slow warlock decks have been in almost every single meta in Hearthstone's history it seems like a reasonable prediction that support for the archetype might enter standard again at some point that would bring them back (Noting of course that defile itself also counts as such support), because that's a thing that happens literally all the time. For anyone that knows even a little bit of the history of the game this was an obvious outcome, it could only possibly be called "bad" if you ignored all available evidence and sabotaged your own ability to predict anything effectively.

I like to say Hearthstone is more RNG than skill, but then a video like this comes out.
@sirrismendozasunlessrealms57757 жыл бұрын
The normal Ladder system of Hearthstone is actually RNG because of aggro and tempo-aggro or token-aggro... but then it comes skill in a match of Control/fatigue decks, which were actually the decks that should have their own category in the game for those who want fun and random battles, no playing vs aggro in a 3 times row :/
@TheSquareOnes7 жыл бұрын
I really like these videos for this reason, there is some merit to the "RNG is out of control in Hearthstone!" argument these days but a bit part of it is probably how most streamers and youtubers specifically choose to highlight the most outrageous games every day. By showcasing serious high-level play and talking through every turn I think Firebat is doing a lot to dispel the misconception that there is no room for skill in the game.

17:30 wouldnt enforcer -->pass have been lethal?
@gooddoggy107 жыл бұрын
Most Likely no, as ice block was likely one of the secrets. Enforcer would have poped the Mage's ice block, leaving him at the same health. Afterwards things would have played out the same for the mage, just minus the ice block. and firebat would have had 3 less health, and a 6/6 which wouldn't have mattered.

If people just played random decks firebat would be so screwed. I still remember the deck doctor where this mage played the quest but wasn't actually netdecking quest mage so firebat made all these incorrect assumptions of what cards the guy would have and ended up losing.

17:25 why did he not abbysal here
@andyziggy7 жыл бұрын
Trypheno pops block at 3, then ant fatigues for 2 next turn and doesn't die. then ant wouldve healed for 3 to be at four and be dead no matter what. Ultimately it didn't matter, it was going to take 2 turns to kill him anyways.
@Int87 жыл бұрын
yh i understand. ice block mechanics are sht tho. If your opponent is at 1 and u pop him and he fatigues for -1, he should die. Cuz the card says prevent fatal damage THIS TURN and you take fatigue damage AFTER that turn.
@Saktor27 жыл бұрын
you dont understand ice block mechanics. "If your opponent is at 1 and u pop him and he fatigues for -1, he should die" he litteraly will die. Iceblock only applies on enemies turn and doesnt prevent fatigue lethal. the reason firebat didnt play abbysal is because mage would have been at 3 hp
@Int87 жыл бұрын

@sirrismendozasunlessrealms57757 жыл бұрын
DK for fatigue and Jaraxxus for control maybe, I mean, Jaraxxus puts a lot of pressure on board while DK is a constant heal up vs mages with tons of burst. - DK for burst mages - Jaraxxus for control value Priests something like that?

@Jeff_the_ApocalypticGameCat7 жыл бұрын
It's just awkward because he locks you into a 15HP cap even after you play Bloodreaver. He's basically playing the role of Alexstraza. But I think Alex might be better. I didn't play a ton with Jaraxxus, but I never had success with him (in the current meta, that is). Priests use to almost auto-lose to him, but even that's changed with all the burst they're capable of.

The interaction with fatigue works the same way with eye for an eye. Secrets only work on your opponent's turn, so fatigue, which happens on your turn, doesn't activate secrets.

That sound normally only occurs before a vowel (consider "archbishop," for instance). But since "archmage" is a word only used in fantasy settings, I guess it's debatable.
