Excited to hear the bad version my personal favorite. My favorite interpretation i've seen is that you get this ending when you beat the game with the minimum about of stars needed (without glitches) instead of getting all 120. And Mario soon realizes that because he rushed to get just the minimum number of starts he doesn't have enough energy to free peach and the toads despite having defeated Bowser.
