I always really liked the Selena/Caeldori A Support. They do a lot more with their characters than you'd expect with how Caeldori's lines don't change regardless of mother. I'm not super hard to please but it definitely sold me on Selena a lot more than anything else in Fateswakening did. Assuming you can get past how weird it is that Selena's daughter is her mom.

Benny and Beruka is honestly one of my favorites in the game, was really satisfied when I decided to pair them up in my first Conquest playthrough. I also think their S-support is one of the few (along with Laslow and Selena, actually) that naturally seems to flow from their support chain. I also like Laslow and Peri's support, as he seems to be the only one that calls Peri out on her murderous intent lmao. Sakura and Hana and Sakura and Takumi also have some cute supports, especially the latter one. They share such a funny sibling dynamic in that one. I also think Laslow and Charlotte's S-support is hilarious, as they decide to get married but in the same conversation decide to have an open relationship. They fit very well together, so wanted them together on my first playthroug and I wasn't disappointed.

Someone else mentioned it but, Peri and Laslow is probably one of my favorite supports ever. Peri became like, one of my favorite characters because of it, and it helped it was the first support line I did for her. And Laslow also gets to really shine here as well, so do give that one a watch. It's soo good.

I actually always really liked Inigo/Laslow's character. If you haven't already I would recommend taking a peek at his support in Awakening with Olivia. It explains that he was always very shy and timid, yet he wanted to be a dancer like his mom so he had to deal with that sort of anxiety being in front of a lot of people. She told him to "talk to pretty girls" because it would be incredibly nerve-wracking for him to do so. Plus the final Inigo/Olivia support is rather sweet but I'll let you read that lol. Really enjoyed the B support here between him and Selena (and the rest of them really).

It’s part of why i like this support - Peri actually likes Laslow. Most Peri supports have someone trying to get to know her, realize she’s crazy, and then be stuck interacting with her because now they’ve got her attention, but with Laslow, she already considers him a friend. When Laslow shows up after another failed conquest, Peri teases him about it, shuts up when Laslow tells her he doesn’t like it, and then offers to go out with him completely unprompted. If Laslow felt threatened by Peri, he probably would have declined, but he accepts the invitation because he too likes Peri. They are already friends by the time the support chain begins, and that makes a huge difference

If you are interested in other supports, I can definitely recommend Azura/Laslow, Laslow/Peri, Xander/Nyx, Nyx/Kaze and Beruka/Oboro. As other users have already pointed out, Nyx's support convos are almost always pretty good. I'm also very fond of many of Xander's support convos, especially the ones involving his siblings and his son. If you are also interested in support convos that are not necessarily good but are very amusing, I can recommend Elise/Odin, Odin/Felicia, Saizou/Felicia, Setsuna/Saizou and Rinkah/Jakob. They at least made me laugh enough times, haha.

I think the Translation really did a number on the supports in Fates. Not that it's some lost gem ruined by localization, just that some of the characters in the original Japanese had a bit more life to them that the translation scrubbed out. Jakob, for instance, was a lot ruder and funnier in the Japanese version, so some of his supports were amusing - but they toned down a lot of his incisiveness in the translation, so he just comes across as a stock mildly snippy butler. If you want more recommendations, I'd suggest Arthur/Azura and Saizo/Charlotte.

Thank you. I've seen way too many people say/think the localization ruined everything about Fates when it wasn't that good to begin with. Citing the infamous Saizo and Beruka support, when that's just an extreme case. Sort of the inverse of what you we're saying, I'm not saying "Fates bad", just I'm frustrated how much misconceptions surrounded and still surround Fates' controversies. As a side note, it always bugged me people went berserk over name changes when Awakening, the game that introduced a majority of the people to the series at the time, had plenty of localized names they were accustomed to.

@@korinoriz The problem is that the localization ruined some things by making it way worse The original it's not a gem, but in some cases it's better like Xander, Garon and Effie, Corrin is also more consistent of a character in terms of personality (which makes BR more boring by making Corrin a kind of Eirika like in CQ, and the localization made BR Corrin be a little bloodthirsty lol) And yeah, yeah i'm aware of that one Soleil support, but really, it's ONE support which is offensive, i can see why they would change it, but what? Is it really a reason to call every other part of the original worse? They could just change It and remove the petting minigame, and make sure to keep the rest identical to the original, because when we play a game localized, we expect it to be faithful to the original except for localized names for example and language adaptations Meanwhile most of what Fates localization did was making the story even worse or add unecessary changes, and yes, a lot of people blow this out of water when in fact, the localization wasn't even THAT BAD and most people that complain about it never actually read what they changed and think that the original is some kind of masterpiece All i can say is that recently the "Fates Retranslation" mod was done in gamebanana too, and If you're really curious about seeing it through the game(not only by searching in tumblr shit and other forums) i recommend to see It and that CQ story is more acceptable in the original Anyway, i think that the only truth for Fates's whole story situation it's that It was dissapointing and a waste of potential, yet we have great things on it too and people should also acknowledge what Fates did well (which fortunately it's happening nowadays, meanwhile 3h got it's hate time and now Engage is controversial as Fates in some aspects for literally one trailer)

I feel like birthright doesnt as many good characters as cq, with most of the characters just being boring, but they're much more consistent. the only birthright birthright character I can say I dislike is Azama, and there aren't really any I like. Meanwhile conquest has a lot characters I can't stand like Camilla, Peri, and Charlotte. It also has characters I actually quite like though, like Leo, Nyx, and ODIN DARK. So while I do think cq's cast is overall better, I don't think it's a massive win or anything

Probably because I REALLY hate the "awakening clones that plague the BR route". Every single one of them is terrible. I'm okay with Severa, Owain and Laslow being in the game, because THERE IS a reason for them to be there. But the "awakening kids" is just... why? From BR, I only like Rinkah, and... maybe Ryoma. The other ones are... just "meh".

The Laslow Selena S Support with the bracelet is a reference to their (Japanese) Support chain in Awakening. The whole thing is a callback to their old support chain, which to be fair, you probably never did since you don't use the Gen2 much when you play Awakening, which you don't play as often as the older games. Also the Oboro/Silas support is a gender reversal of the phenomenon where a woman of colour somehow has a racist white boyfriend, but in this case, the woman is the racist one. Probably not intentional, but kind of funny. Silas is into strange shit if you dive into his supports, even Odin comments on it.

There are actually a good number of good supports in fates, the problem is they didn’t translate into the overall story being good. Xander for instance has some really good supports, but his in game self refuses to see the glaringly obvious conclusion that Garon has become a monster. (Well replaced by a monster actually)

The supports were written by different people Also Xander is actually more consistent with the supports in the JP version, where he only is Garon's lapdog because he is delusional and afraid of him During Gooron fight, Xander quotes that he always believed that he only commited the atrocities Garon asked for him because he had the Idea that this would make him return to be a great Father like in the past too, and the "Justice is an illusion" speech is very different in JP too Xander it's still not perfect, but at least in the original version he's more consistent and acknowledges that Garon is a monster, he just had a illusion that by following his orders he would become good again , and he would also not defy him often because he's afraid of him

I think the Conquest characters are generally compelling. Birthright less so, though there are some supports I liked there like Dwyer/Mitama... like they seriously have *two* characters in the game whose character shtick is that they like to sleep? but they made it funny at least. I also think Saizo has some funny supports but I forgot the specifics... I don't think the Oboro/Silas support is that well-done, but I guess it can be interesting because it touches on Oboro's issues with Nohr and Silas talking about learning from her fighting style can be a nod to how them getting close enough gives you the possibility to change them into each other classes with the relationship seal (which is one of the cool thing with Fates...I think Saizo/Felicia has more of this though, since he talks about turning her into a ninja). I thought Oboro/Beruka was done better or maybe it just feels that way because a lot of the other Rev supports feel like cancer, but it's really intense so I like that. Also think Silas/Hinoka was decent, insofar as supports that touches on the possibility of peace between Hoshido and Nohr goes, even if Hinoka is generally forgettable as a character.

Benny is ADORABLE as a character. His theme is that of the "Gentle Giant", something akin to Gonzales: a really scary guy who is a Sweetheart. He is not a deep character by any means, but he don't need to be. He is a simple guy, and I love him for that. Beruka is a bit edgy, yes, but I really like a bunch of Supports of her, because she is just a broken person, and in a way that's endearing (unlike Peri). My personal favorite of her is the Selena/Beruka one (i'm even going to marry them, using the Gay Fates mod, on my personal Lunatic playthrough that i'm planning), but there is a bunch of great ones that expand her backstory and shows WHY she is how she is (Camilla, Kaze, the Arthur one is ADORABLE, even the Niles one is good). Just talking about my two favorite characters of this game. - I know that Mods don't count for you, because you think "the game should be good without them", which is 100% fair and I agree with you, but some of the supports on the Gay Fates mod (and the Unofficial expansion) are really adorable. I have a personal favorite in Soleil/Camilla. You don't NEED to watch it on video, of course, but I think you should check it out if you are curious.

@@Zerorenren4761 Benny suffers from being "too good" actually. Because there is that stupid "you take 0 hit, they ignore you", so Benny basically just clogs enemies on chokepoints. Although I used both Effie and Benny, and they are really different as units, even though they have the same classes. Benny is a better General, and people on the more "optimized side of things" get an A+ supp with Mozu, and put effie on Sniper duty, to pass down to Percy Quick Draw later.

The reason why supports in 3DS games feel worse than in GBA or PoR is because they had to be written in a way that makes sense regardless when player unlocks them. You can technically get Corrin and Felicia/Jakob to S support by chapter 7, which means they have to be basic. In PoR it takes X ammount of chapters to unlock them, so they can refrence recents chapters, like Lethe/Jill A support references the events of chapter 20 and it gives them more room to bond and reflect how the ongoing events affect them. 3DS games also have WAY more supports than GBA and Telius, which means there will unavoidably be more bad or just meh supports, which is doubly true given the abundance of S supports. That's not to say 3DS games don't have good supports, far from it, but unfortunately you have to do a little dumpster diving to find them. Especially good S support ratio for each character is about 10-20%. Henry/Cordelia is one of my favourites, because it utilizes the fact that Henry joins after the time skip, plays to both characters strengths and transition between A and S support flows naturally rather than coming out of nowhere. Sadly a lot of supports aren't like that and ironically i found most of the best supports in Awakening on my first playthrough by pairing with meme mindset (Vaike/Miriel, Virion/Panne, Donnel/Maribelle etc). On second playthrough i went for "meta" pairings that would give the best inheritance and supports in those were far worse. Fates has a problem that most of it's supports are written for either Conquest or Birthright with no variation for Revelation and a lot of them just don't work there. To not look far - Saizo/Corrin. In Birthright Saizo joins on behalf of Sakura and doesn't trust Corrin one bit so it makes sense that their support would focus on that. In Revelations however he joins completely of his own volition, even telling Corrin that no traitor would go out of their way to help him like that, which makes the same support headscratching. Finally the reason why they do "introductions" in their C supports is because Fates is terrible at establishing anything. The main story gives most of the cast no agency, so supports have to do the heavy lifting instead. This comes down to poor planning as both Conquest and Birthright are filled with filler chapters that could be instead dedicated to developing characters, while Revelations has no time to develop it's story, let alone characters. And if you thought that Odin, Selena and Laslow are only there because they are 2nd gen fan favourites from Awakening, consider that Cordelia, Tharja, Gaius and Chrom were fan favourites in base roster. So we got Caeldori, Rhajat and Asugi, while Chrom got his own dlc. I can't even think of Fates supports to recommend, because most of my favourites come from Gay Fates add on and i have yet to do the comprehensive dumpster diving myself. But so far Awakening trio and Rev only supports are the best.

I only play Fates with the "Unofficial Gay Fates Add-on", which obviously adds more same-sex S-Supports, but also adds a plethora of new supports for every character (Not only can Corrinsexuals can finally interact with more characters than just Corrin, but some 1st Gen can even support with 2nd Gen like Odin/Soleil, although thankfully none of them can S-Support each other) and the writing for a lot of them is actually top-notch. Most of the time, I pretty much figure out which support is vanilla and which is modded by seeing if it's good or not lol Anyway, for vanilla supports, I remember Xander, Nyx, Odin, and Laslow having a couple of good ones (Laslow in particular having possibly the only good support with Peri). I never actually finished Birthright or Revelations so I don't know the supports from them well, but I liked Beruka/Oboro & Leo/Takumi, and Selena/Caeldori is... interesting. For the most part, I think the non-romantic supports are typically better since without the S-Support, it can progress naturally without the need to shoehorn the characters into needing a kid (I could say the same for Awakening too, but that's for another time)

I never played with Gay Fates because i thought that It was only adding lgbt supports to the game and i always thought that this would not be very much of an advantage for the gameplay(since i only do s supports for the sake of the children as good units, so i also only make strategical s supports except for my wife/husband depending on my Corrin) So that's cool, probably i will use it when i replay Rev as soon the Silent Waves mod is done(it's a mod in Gamebanana which is in development, as a person that really likes Rev despite the problems, this mod will rework some maps story and add new units/gameplay shit which i'm very hyped to see how it will go, and yes i'm making some advertising for it here lol but no, i'm not involved in the development of this mod, i'm just someone looking foward to it)

I legit think that fates has the best supports in the series. There are tons of characters in fates that I was actively excited to get supports for. Almost all of Kaze's are good and I love Azura's and Azama's. There are a good mix of silly and serious ones and its a real joy for me. Missed Azura - Kaden and Beruka - Kaze.

Selena/Odin focuses more on their past. I think it's solid over all but the S-support just feels kinda tacked on, the A-support felt like a better conclusion to me.

Fates has a LOT of good supports, it's just that the fandom loves to hate the trillogies(and i love to defend it because i really like Fates, i mean, i like even Revelation lol, i just agree with the critics towards certain maps, some characters and story most of the time) But well, most Azura supports are good or great, Corrin is way better as a character in most supports, Xander is more likeable in the supports, most of the Awakening trio supports are good/great and etc. Even thought Fates has a shitty main story, i think that most supports are great in the lacking characterization of It, and i find "everyone is one note" criticism very shallow, considering how most of the Fates cast it's not that different from most of the other games in terms of gimmicky characters(it's just that some characters like Felicia, Setsuna and Peri are literally just their gimmick, but there is also some that aren't just It like Leo, Takumi, Azura and Saizo) In general, Fates has a lot of issues, but i think that while some of the worst supports exist on it, some of the bests are on it too and i really feel like some people overlook them. Also, some characters are worse in the localization like Effie, in original she's basically a whole different thing and some deep moments were turned down like the classic "..." Support situation, and while the original is better, it's not "the story is actually good" like some people say The story is as bad and sloppy, it's just that it's not as dogshit, and mainly CQ is way better Storywise in Japanese, and BR is even more bland

I think the difference between GBA supports and Awakening/Fates/Three Houses supports really does come down to quantity over quality. Nowadays characters typically have 10+ supports when before they were lucky to have maybe 5. A lot of that quantity comes from the apparent need for paired endings, though. Almost every character NEEDS to be able to get with almost any character of the opposite sex, so suddenly they can support with half of the army. It's just kind of an inevitability that modern supports get repetitive. There definitely are good supports in the 3DS era onwards, but there's a lot more muck to wade through too.

the awakening trio being in fates works just fine if they got on a boat and just went off one day. the part where it's an Important Mission delivered by the Good Half of an Evil Dragon God makes the whole thing absurd, and not in a good way. especially the part where that good half looked at the kids from awakening, asked 'who among these would i pick to defeat an evil dragon god', and went straight past Lucina to pick her cousin, her girlfriend, and also laslow

In like most the beruka supports she always brings up how she’d kill the other person if someone paid her too. Probably not the first to mention it, but just for terms sake. Selena/Severa would be considered a tsundere, not a yandere, not that it really matters. Laslow is a character that unfortunately really gets screwed over by having supports that reset any kind of growth he could have. It makes him extremely unlike able. Most of silas’s supports are almost universally boring because Silas is the most boring character in the whole game. And he has almost no characterization.

I agree that the Fates supports start to feel redundant because the characters are often one-dimensional, so they tend to develop around their trop with most of their support partners. I think he game encourages you to essentially pick only two support partners, for each of the A+/S supports. That being said, while some of their support conversations develop them in interesting ways, the biggest disservice done to the Fates cast is making most of them irrelevant to the overarching story. They rarely interject in any significant way in story chapters, and the child paralogues are mostly jokes that fail at humor. So while the Fates cast certainly has potential, what they need is to matter. Or to at least show how the main story affects them. That's one of the reasons why I'm fond of SoV. Not only does the cast (for the most part) comment on the overarching story, but locking higher supports behind story progression allows them to reflect on the journey that led them to that point.

In Fates literally only the royals do shit in the main story and by it i say Corrin, Takumi, Leo, Ryoma, Azura and Xander lol Which is something i really hate about the story since Fates has a Very strong cast (mainly CQ)

Tbh I don’t really play fates or awakening without the gay hack anymore. and the thing is, it’s not like, ‘just’ a gay hack. There are also additional platonic and romantic supports across genders. The writing is really solid and I defo recommend taking a look over at Unassuming Venusaur

Ngl, a little bothered that Beruka uses the term "Barometer" in the setting of Feudal Japan. Very nitpicky of me and ofc its not set in the real world, but I feel like even if the Barometer was invented closer to Japan's Feudal period than the modern day, the turn of phrase where you refer to something as "a barometer of x" is a relatively modern expression

Dunno about the Beruka/Benny support though. I thought this one is mostly because they are both kind of taciturn and Benny's son might be the only kid who wants her as mother. :') But I don't think the support convo does much for either character. I like the Camilla/Beruka support, since it both goes into Beruka's past and how Camilla has a bit of a, hm, savior complex? Niles/Camilla is decent too, with how it goes into why Camilla dotes on Corrin so much beyond everyone loving Corrin because they are special... (But also I like Beruka and Niles a lot in general.) Beruka/Kaze is pretty sweet. Funny you did those supports in the game too. (The reason Beruka is kind of weird/fixated on killing is because she was raised as an assassin, as a result she is not used to interacting with people outside of missions that involves killing people, so she is emotionally stunted and has trust-issues...If you don't like the character trope I guess it can't be helped, but it's different from Peri who seems to just be really into murder.)

like with Camilla and Beruka...Beruka was an assassin originally hired to kill Camilla, and Beruka claims at first that she would betray Camilla if she found a better contractor, so arguably she makes for a bad retainer as well, but it makes sense for Camilla to keep someone like this around, since Camilla feels like she "can save her from herself".... similar with Leo and Niles... like Niles is kind of a questionable character at first but it makes sense Leo would be intrigued by someone like this, they go together well as lord and retainer... with Xander and Peri though, it's way less convincing. I guess he just thought the fact that she enjoys killing/fighting so much would make her a strong retainer. I did go through the Peri/Kaze support recently, and while it didn't make me like Peri, there's some comedy value in them casually discussing what's more impressive between cooking and killing someone.

fates is probably one of the most disappointing games in the series, but it is also one of my favorites. Conquest's gameplay is amazing, I love the implementation of reclassing, and the game feel and polish is great. It just sucks how everything story related ranges from meh to 💀
