I'm actually enjoying this drama a lot. It's just my preferred genre tbh, I love the drama revolving around palace and imperial families. Quite refreshing to see the character of Prince consort, as it's normally the Princess who becomes the consort. Their acting is very much upto the mark, THEY HAVE CHEMISTRY! The setup, the makeup, everything is upto my liking. So far, good. I hope it becomes entertaining upto the last episode.

You're right. The attractive thing about this drama is that it embodies that dream...who hasn't ever dreamed of returning to the age of 17 and fantasized about what decisions we would change? Let's not ask for psychological depths, but the topic is attractive, and they are so NATURAL!. As for The Double, you were right: I ended up totally dizzy with the "camera close-ups" that only distorted the face of the first actress, or how to make a pretty girl look like a Martian... My favourite thing about the drama is that unlike other rebirth dramas, the characters aren't rehashing significant details or events of their past life. Things are the same and yet most things happen differently than they remember or don't even happen at all. In other dramas, the character that travels back usually knows that a certain problematic event, whether major or minor; is going to happen at a certain time and uses the knowledge they had from their previous life to solve the problem. A lot of times that can feel like cheating and makes the character a bit Mary Sue-ish(cough SOKP cough) but since the characters in this drama don't really have the exact same problems they did in their old lives, they use their wits and tools currently at their disposal to solve them without relying on foreknowledge.

It is a rare case to see a Chinese drama using the power of language to get ahead. Not gorgeous visuals, but language. The bickering between the two was so real and so amusing. Then again, create memorable scenes by what is actually said, like when the ML finally decides not to stomp away speechless and frustrated, but actually explain to the princess the necessity of her gauging emotions accurately. She needs to figure out what people feel and want; that of course includes herself. Excellent scenes in eps 13 and 14 which Avenue X hasn’t yet watched. I personally enjoy this drama very much, though of course anyone can figure out where it’s going, it’s not that hard.

I am enjoying their banter😂 but fight scenes are pretty ridiculous, you are right. There was a boomerang sword on the battlefield a few episodes back, and I rolled my eyes. Like, really? It's a straight long object. Why would it come back to you?!!😂😂😂

When I first watched this drama, it gave me "Queen of Tears" vibe. The OST also sounds more like a Korean drama than a Chinese drama. I found it entertaining and enjoyable, and I recommend it.

Kind of like what AvenueX was saying. When the character in the drama acts cute, it sounds very close to ZLH cause that's how he sounds when he talks. A little coquettish tone. The VA has very clear pronunciation.

I would say this series is on a relaxed side, cause the leads already know eo and the people who are around them, it really makes you feel relaxed and just enjoy what they’re doing, in other dramas the anxiousness of the characters to show themselves and to hardly get to know eo gives you the same feels as well but this one the comfort zone they provide for eo is really well delivered to the audience as well and that’s a unique experience.

Eh, it's an okay drama, but it's not addictive. I blame it on the directing and writing. A lot of the lines could've been told through visual story-telling, but they chose verbal lines instead, it just doesn't appeal to me because I have to listen and read the subs too often to understand. I'm not sold on the chemistry either, maybe the storyline did not sell the emotions right. If anything, you can tell a lot of budget went into this drama. I actually like the side characters, such as the crown prince, more than the main couple. I had so much expectation, since I had read the novel. This drama is passable, but not great.

I was waiting for your review and I love your outfit and headpiece ❤ First episode: Can’t believe they couldn’t get any hair and makeup expert to change the look of the young actor and actress. I have seen a lot of young Chinese makeup artists online who could have done a better job. Even her sickly makeup was not believable. But the interplay and banter of the main actors is entertaining. Her small relapses of acting old are the best (her mid afternoon exercises, taking 😴 naps and her unapologetic bashful pursuits of Mr Su) am loving it.

The drama is not bad but It lacks the crackastic addicting flavor that made "The Double" the hottest drama of June. That craze that made people hate week ends and love week days for "The Double", that drama here doesn't have that for me. And personally Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He chemistry doesn't make me go "wow". It is here but it is too forgettable for me. All in all the drama is there.

Drama advertisement sponsorship numbers went from 0 when the show aired on 2 june to hundreds by the time it ended. The drama had the spice that made the ride crazy entertaining.

Wait is this really 40 ep long? Now im worried if i can finish since i dropped The Double and that one was popular. I see the same issues you mentioned with this one in the lack of care in the politics. Makes it hard to believe so it makes me tune out. If the romance doesnt romance then i probably wont make it to the end. So far, im enjoying rhe crown prince's story more and second male lead's story. He's a lot more complex so far and im curious to see what they do with him.

I agree with all your points. This is focused on the romance and not politics, wars, or anything else. I am glad Zhang Linghe is dubbed because he actually sounds much better and it improves his "acting". There aren't that many tropes and the side characters get enough time for themselves without overshadowing the leads. There isn't much difference between athe 40 old vs the 20 old selves. It seems the teens have the wisdom of their older self so they are less naive about things. As for their relationship, they both are trying to make a match for the other person. And their own relationship is more like and old married couple with all the digs and gaffs and how she is always hitting him on the head. He's apparently not as bad as she thought. It seemed he did love her, but she was the one who grew cold toward him and they drifted apart.

In my opinion, the one plot line that brought any tension to the drama - that the ML and FL were BOTH reincarnated was resolved way too quickly. For me, they should have stretched out that storyline for a few more episodes. All the Cdramas lately are just on a cycle of rinse and repeat.

I thought it was a good drama, I am always attracted to the figure of the "evil" character, whether male or female (sometimes they are much more interesting than the "good" ones !). I don't like series that leave me hanging in the middle without knowing the ending. "The Princess" entertains, to pass the time. It's not one of the worst, let's hope that this half of the year the dramas IMPROVE a little...

I like the drama. similar to AASOL the scenes of billiard games only comes secondary to the beautiful romantic scenes of FL & ML continue to trend w/ their great chemistry, act naturally & convincing on portraying their roles, so it’s the same in Royal Prncess, I enjoyed the natural acting of Jinmai & Linghie scenes in funny and romantic scene, Jinmai is awesome in narrating &delivering her dialogues plus she’s so attractive playing the role as Princess.

Oh my God, I also feel the Queen of Tears vibe in this drama. I completely love the pairing of Mai and Ling He here. The way they portrayed a 20 years marriage relationship in 18-20 years old body is justtt soo good. I like whenever they realise their mistakes in the first marriage. It is so convincing that the two definitely look like a real couple arguing with each other. You know.. the spark was gone but hearts can't lie. Not only that, Jinmai and Heyi also create an intense chemistry. So intense that it disturbs me because I am into the lead couple XD.

Li Rong character is very unique..she ia soft in side but circumstances and palace live force her to be tough... And she is soo content with herself..lol...but she is broadminded person ao she ia willing to accept insight from other people.. I've started watching this as The Princess Royal and am only on ep 8. The leads seem to wander between ennui at having to do this all over again to a pleasant familiarity they find surprising in each other. Where to go from here they wonder? You may like Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace. Impressive cast, sets and costumes. It's definitely a harem melodrama, but the Qing Dynasty Emperor, who ascends to the throne unexpectedly, is a sympathetic character. He tries to protect his beloved concubine who is wrongfully accused of heinous crimes against his other wives and children. It's on Viki with subtitles in several languages.

This is tolerable to some extent but I doubt whether it can do for 40 eps for me. The first 20 min of the 1st ep was ridiculous when they were acting as 40yr olds. It looks stupid when younger actors acting as matured characters than the matured actors doing younger roles than their actual age. ZLH with that mustache, beard and red painted lips was difficult to look at. After that initial part it was quite ok...... And I agree with the plot with no background plot. They are only focussing on the romance between the main leads and the rest is stupid They have lot of dialogues than showing emotions and expressions It is not a story I eagerly wait for new episodes everyday, rather would watch when I feel bored and want to do something

Eu gosto dos diálogos entre o casal principal e o fato de que para nenhum dos dois o objetivo da nova vida seja "vingança". Eles entendem o meio que estão enseridos e como o ml diz, a princesa é um pouco equivocada ao ler pessoas. Mais o importante é que eles conversam e tentam se desviar de algumas coisas. Até o sml que também renasceu eu acho que o maior objetivo dele agora é salvar a família dele. O triste que para salvar uma família outra acaba pagando.

If it wasn’t for the lead actor, I would have quit this series already. The storyline is quite boring. Having just finished The Double, which was quite good, The Princess Royal is underwhelming. The two leads lack chemistry imo.

One thing about Avenue is if she’s enjoys a drama no matter how bad the colour contrasts or pallet is she’ll manage to give that drama a good review even if the isn’t all that. If she’s hates a drama or didn’t find good enough for her no matter how good the drama is she’ll find a way to downplay the drama. But I’ll keep watching your review it just something I’ve notice over the last two years of watching ur reviews

Tbh I think they added too many scenes of female lead and second male lead and idk why and for now most of the time the male lead looks disinterested with the female lead romantically I thought a bit of the pining stuff will show up occasionally considering their past but still nothing and the politics is very boring and doesn't quite make sense at all but hopefully it improves 😭.

Had to switch to NO BRAINER mode on this one coz if you dont, you would be pissed with the overly simplified or unreasonable psychological and mental aspect. One thing also is they put too many rookies in this drama. There were tense situations but the actors were too mild or they don't give of that energy or power like the crown prince, ronqing and the emperor given the significance of their character or the delivery does not sound like in a standard period drama sound like the princess. This makes it a do not take seriously and just follow the storyline which is a characteristic of most short dramas. There were great actors in some short dramas though. Had to skip so much and already got bored at ep 10 on this one. After the double, nothing is interesting yet at this point for me.

I am enjoying this, partly because the politics is so simple-minded. People who think they are smart, relying on spies, old family, new money, and brute force. This place operates on SPITE. The ML and FL spent their youth and energy maneuvering, without adequate information about thr people aound them, without self reflection, and failing at getting what they really wanted. Their banter is exactly how older people talk to each other when they can't bother themselves to be civil. Also, sword fighting on a waterfall is a really dangerous way to meet cute. I'm hoping I don't get disillusioned, because some talented people worked to make all the resources serve the story. Not squandering money on rental horses that no one can ride anyway.

One thing i don't like about Cdrama periode drama is they are too fantacy and un real Not like K-drama,even its fantasy but they look so real 😅😅 Sorry my English 😅😅

If it were actors that is not her favorite, she woukd be attacking thise actors and ranting at their acting. Or she will say, it’s boring nothing special like she did with Xu Kai and Jing Tian

Idk how ur able to shut your mind and watch this and give good reviews ( though it is neutral u don’t rant or nitpick on on as much) but other dramas u didn’t shut ur mind and give it negative reviews and even nit pick about every little thing (not saying ur bias toward ZZM but maybe) it’s ur video anyways and this makes me wonder that’s all overall I do enjoy your reviews

I actually agree with you. I support her channel because I like a different opinion from my own. I do believe she has her favorite actors/ directors and it shows in her presentations. After all she’s only human. Remember it’s still up to us as to what dramas we enjoy regardless of the critics opinion. She cracks me up at times as some dramas should be torn apart. When I want to watch an excellent drama series I don’t watch Chinese dramas as they satisfy my light and easy category. Light on the story and easy on the eyes. In fact, I just finished watching a Korean drama called Whirlwind! 12 episodes that moved at lightning speed. Check it out. Enjoy🌸💃🏽

Well : Not interested because I simply don't like zhang li He and I'm not in the mood of watching his mediocrity ( he is hired only because he has too much fans eager for his good looks) .. Plus I'm scandalized by the last episodes of "The double ", the finale was " A kangaroo court " What is wrong with these people ? I'm seriously: i kept laughing all along .. I once wrote ; it is a good start don't mess it by the end ! And i was right : i feel.like they spat on the viewers' face ! I mean the illogical moments went from Insanity to Dementia : it feels like eating " Ice cream with chili hot paprika" .. #the Emperor personae is unbearably despicable: upon shooting his lousy escape i felt like watching "Rush hour " in Chinatown! I was praying that Cheng ( his brother) would succeed in taking over the thrown ! #shen yurong talking to Xuefeng fei from over a supposedly Hightower like they next to.each other eating noodles !!! # heroine striking those blimey arrows and Shen not dodging still delusional while he was UPON a Military Coup d'Etat !!! Oh my goodness! What a waste of money ! No words for this beside laughing at a lousy joke ! It felt like watching Biden/Trump confrontation! #the last battle : the only thing understandable is that the director wanted to.make a an out of the box publicity for the male lead ; apart from that : Repelling ,stale and rancidscenes trying to mimick " Rebel princess kind of mood" with a low performance: TOO MuCH stuffing so BooOoM !!! # the princess taken by the Dai : so cliché Since when in history a princess would be raped publicly, sleep with the sheep and have miscarriage?????? With so many unnecessary stuffing! What a waste of money ..

Am i the only one bothered by the way they sit? I think most period drama i watch mostly use chair..even if no chair i don't think i've seen them sit like that it almost remind me of a japanese style ettiquete instead... maybe it's bcs of the costume or maybe it's just me lol wait WHAT!? ZLH is dubbed!? Totally didn't realize it, the voice fits his face really well..

The sitting style is historically correct. Ancient chinese didn't use chairs until the Song Dynasty.
