The good ol days... liked the white sox pin stripes back when they didn't put the last names on the jerseys. Lance Johnson and Ozzie Guillen were my idols during this era. Ron Karkovice remember him too w his goggle glasses lol.... I can literally name and remember most players from this era. Man hearing wimpy really brings me back to when I was little and watching the ball game on Friday nights w my grandparents while spending the night w them... they are no longer w me. Really appreciate this video.

Sox were primed to get to the World Series the following year, but the lockout ended that dream. Going into the lockout, the Sox pitching staff was on fire. McDowell, Fernandez, Alvarez and Bere were tearing it up in every start, and Belcher as a 5th starter was doing decent. The team had the playoff experience from this Toronto loss and were ready to get it done. Sad that it ended the way it did for this group.

As a fan of the Blue Jays, when it came to everything that team did in 1992 and 1993, I took NOTHING for granted in either of those playoff years. When it came to the White Sox, I took them dead serious when it came to the threat they posed to the Jays. There is a reason why the Sox got to the 1993 ALCS in the 1st place. And that reason is why I thank the White Sox for keeping that year's ALCS honest to the Jays. As we know, the Sox eventually bagged the World Title in 2005. To the Sox fans, your team had a great year in '93, and I hope that you all blew the roof off the joint when you finally claimed the Commissioner's Trophy back in 2005. =B

If the 1994 season played out the Montreal Expos would of been the favorites to win it all. They had the best record in Majors when the lock out started and were on pace to win over 100 games. If they won the World Series the Expos could of stayed in Montreal.

White Sox need to take the names off of their Jerseys. We are a charter member of the American League, our roots date back to 1900. Our Nostalgia runs just as deep as the Red Sox, Yankees, and Giants. No more names on the back of Jerseys
@kedro57 жыл бұрын
If it means anything, the White Sox were the first team in the MLB to add names to their jerseys.
@hushg20006 жыл бұрын
Well, if it makes you feel any better, the cubs gave up one of their team name to the south side. So that’s why you’re called the “White Sox” ... So yeah, how’s that charter taste? lol
@fallen4life0805 жыл бұрын
@@hushg2000 Little history here. The Cubs didn't "give it up" to the Sox. Comiskey TOOK the name from the Cubs who were known as the Orphans at the time as a slight to then-owner Albert Spalding. Teams didn't have official names in 1900, instead, they relied on what the populace/media called them or what the team unofficially tried to call themselves. The Tribune called them the Orphans after Cap Anson left the team thereby "orphaning" the players, even though the team was trying to tinker with new names for itself eventually settling on the Cubs. When Comiskey was told to build his park on the south side by Spalding and the NL president he told the tribune to call his team the White Stockings and they did and everyone followed suit leaving Spalding feeling a little bitter because people had stopped calling his team the White Stocking for years. Also, the NL was in disarray in 1900. baseball was becoming unpopular and overly conservative until the AL made drinking legal in ballparks and played games on Sundays.....all thanks to Comiskey and Ban Johnson.

@@kedro5 Yup, I am aware of that fact ironically. But that was a decision made by the eccentric Vill Veeck. He shook things up with an exploding scoreboard, marketing promotions and names in the back, but it went against tradition.

Ellis Burks had a nice playoffs. Robin Ventura is the player who really didn't hit squat in postseason. Raines played well too in playoffs but Ventura had some big opportunities slip thru his fingers. In 1994 a lot more slipped thru entire organization's fingers
@mizztery2994 Жыл бұрын
Aren't you forgetting Bo "One man short" Jackson? He literally couldn't hit the ball in the postseason. At least Robin hit that home run to keep Game 5 alive, allowing Bo another opportunity to whiff while representing the tying run.

@@mizztery2994 yeah I guess but in reality by that point it was apparent Bo was a shell of himself (do give credit for even coming back from that type of injury, mind you) and anything he did was a very pleasant surprise. @@mizztery2994 most definitely. I guess when you are that good for that long at every level- even professional where it usually evens out- it's hard for reality to set in that some ships have done sailed. Honestly, '83 hurt more especially since they won 1st game in Baltimore and then the Dybber's base running blunder wasting Britt Burns magnificent effort(Damn you Tito Landrum!) really thought that '94 was gonna be the year(Damn you Reinsdorf & the strike!!) because Toronto was so experienced & talented. 1thing for damn sure is this year -2023- is such a disappointment because it's hard to see a real improvement happening in a relatively short time span. Baseball isn't like Football where you can flip some of the roster, get a couple guys in the draft & Free Agency, and with the last place schedule: Bang! You're competitive again. Baseball takes a few years to flip. All that said - thank God it's Football season because at least the Bears should (🤞) have a shot at a wildcard(Detroit is winning the division). Have a good day my friend

Was a great Sox team. The Jays were aberrantly good though, just loaded with hall of famers. It was still winnable for us. But Black Jack and Alex Fernandez both going 0-2? Weak sauce. Alvarez and Bere, both young/rookie, won each of their starts on the road. Supposedly McDowell was tipping his pitches. If you remove that, this is winnable in 6 or 7 games. But who cares, we got on 13 years later. Hopefully a second one this fall
@mizztery2994 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, Fernandez pitched well in both his games. Him going 0-2 wasn't really his fault. Especially Game 2 where two of the Jays' three runs were unearned thanks to the bumbling Dan Pasqua at first base and then the Sox' offense loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth and couldn't score.
