When I first became a little monster then, hearing you cover Gaga was such a special treat. Now right when I just became a massive Chappell stan, here you are slaying again. This song has me bawling my eyes out. My family fell apart and i couldnt keep it together and i couldnt love him. Hes happy now and he deserves every bit of that happiness but i know ill always feel the absence of him (ultimately them) as a hole that will never go away. To those in young families struggling with your relationships, the regret is real and its probably worth the fight if theres no abuse happening. This was a curious point for me, as well. Don't know this cover artists situation, but it lyrically still seems sung to a she. Which seems a layer is missing out of the original... In that 'the feeling' is not just about the singer (Chappell) but about themselves and on top of the singers own hurt of rejection is trying to encourage the subject not to deny or cover up a part of themselves. Which adds a lot more nuance to the question of whether the singer could know what the subject wants better than the subject does... vs a standard 'You're going to regret leaving me' song. That said, the singing is really on point. Quite talented Sam!
