I appreciated how the book was the trigger that helped Jake see a relationship could develop, yet neither character ever directly spoke of the book. Clever. Well acted; both characters were believable and equally invested in their roles. Truly enjoyable film.

Thanks, Michael, appreciate you watching and taking the time to write. Also, happy you liked the book connection between them haha. Planning on switching the book out for another with a little higher degree of on-sight significance, maybe The Alchemist. We'll see 🙂

The book was the trigger? Let’s talk about the WHITE ROSES. The old actress holding up a black and white picture of a small boy? She gave up acting to raise a child, who isn’t involved with her later in life, leading me to believe she gave up being an actress just to have her small child taken away (aka died). Look around her house and you see no pics of a grown up child. No grand babies. She sees through him what her boy could have been while he sees his mother what she could have been.

You are such a handsome young man, with talents that I wish myself could share with the world. However, I never met a soul that could make my humble talents connect with the world. I don't know of this woman, but she gives us an absolutely AMAZING performance. @18:25: I bet few caught it because it only lasts a second or two, but the book he pulls out of her memory case is not just any random prop book, but "The Beauty Queen of Leenane"; part 1 of a trilogy of Irish plays by Martin McDonagh. It takes an amazing mind to take the time to slip in little tidbits that make a scene so authentic. Very well done.

Dang, Daniel, thanks very much for taking the time to share this. One of the things I love most about older people I meet is how willing they are to take the time to just stop and talk. That willingness to listen and to communicate goes a long way towards happiness and connection and is something I really admire.

@@jakeebright1041 Thank you for that Jake. Something precious for humanity has been lost to a large extent with social media. Even old guys like myself often communicate more on social media rather than face to face. I ca talk to people all over the world on social media. Nice. But like many others, I communicate a lot with people that live just down the road on social media. I remember a time not so long ago when people gathered around town halls and talked to each other..in person. Your reply makes me feel a little proud to be an "older guy". LOL. I'm 72 now and miss those days when people actually talked to each other.

@@jakeebright1041 I agree! For me, every interaction with another human is a gift and an opportunity to connect and contribute joy! We never know what others are going through. A smile, a “hello, how’s your day going so far” to the check out person at the grocery store or anywhere, can create an energetic shift that ripples throughout their day and brings them joy. And it brings me fulfillment to share joy. It’s a win win! My mother was the same way. She always made it a point to leave others feeling validated and appreciated no matter how short their interaction. And I would see the effect it had on her and the other person. I often say, “Life is short and days are long” so why not have a little fun along the way and share a smile with each person I meet! Nice story and beautifully acted! Congrats! 20:36

Have been pondering exactly this disconnection and separation of families, humans and generations. I feel its the cause of unhappiness. Humans need connections. I also have the feeling that if the oldies were much more connected to the young…they’d forget to get old.

Sometimes it only takes a handshake or a hug to keep the spirit of another person alive. I'm not one who's comfortable to receive any positive comment or praise; it gives me cringe. But for others, it's enough to open up worlds, so to speak. The lyrics of Diana Ross' song then makes perfect sense: "Reach out and touch somebody's hand; make this world a better place if you can..."
@jakeebright1041
@jakeebright1041 Жыл бұрын
Hey Tago, what an awesome sentiment. Thanks so much for sharing and for the reference to the Diana Ross lyric, too. I made this movie at a time when I was feeling pretty lonely after having first moved to Los Angeles, and I was amazed multiple times at the kindness and openness of older people I'd meet in passing who would share a warm smile and hello. That simple kind of human connection made me feel a bit more at home--even while being so far away from my real home. I'm with Diana Ross--a simple smile and a hug can be a real beacon of light in a world that oftentimes can be pretty dark and complex

Incredibly done. Well written, impeccably acted and produced... the whole nine. The music was perfect, not too overwhelming, fitting perfectly. Like a fine wine, it fits, compliments the scene, instead of trampling over it. "Anne" has a bit of.. Jane Fonda in her voice, her cadence. What a very cool chemistry these two have, right? The way these they mesh is so believable, even if seemingly rare. And yes, I know people may say this a bit too often, but I truly see this guy going places. Thanks for the kind words, Richard. Glad you enjoyed the film. The book is just meant to connect the two of them; however, I'm intending on going more into that in the feature script. I'm also meaning to change up the book to be something more significant to the two of them. In the short, it was just a screenwriting book, but in the feature I'm thinking I'd like it to be The Alchemist, which is about following one's dreams and following your destiny.

This was really well done. I thought 20 minutes, I don't know if I want to give 20 mins but I have enjoyed short films before often because their character work is good. I don't have the skill myself but I know what I like in a story. I want to feel some reality I can relate to and also discover something that is foreign to me that I can experience here I can't get in my own life. This achieved both those things strange yet achingly familiar. I laughed at a couple of points audibly and I cried for a moment as they spoke in the kitchen of those that had gone. I smiled a lot and willed the characters to take actions I wanted to see. This ability to involve someone in the story emotionally is what I see as the most effective form of story telling. I don't know about camera angles, set dressings, good and bad dialogue or effective use of music but something in all of this along with the good acting on behalf of the leads really conveyed the story you wanted to tell. Congratulations! I hope that you love that other people are enjoying the story you have woven together and feel every bit of the satisfaction of the art you have spent time making and sharing.

Mr. Ebright, your film is à propos for showcasing a friendship between two people who are four or more decades apart in age! I was born in '64, and my friends range from born in '02 at the youngest to '22 at the oldest (yes: 1922).
