Lovely film. I’m a 74 year old woman. I look back on raising 2 sons. Many times I would see couples that I envied. Big beautiful home, fashionable clothes. luxury cars, and carefree with plenty of money. My husband and I saw many hard times. Unemployment, rental homes, junker cars and a constant lack,of cash. Eventually we worked our way up and became successful. We were happy with well behaved children. We never went hungry and always had a roof over our head.I lost my husband 17 years ago. But I now have a beautiful home, retired and no need for money. Both my sons are college graduates. One is a doctor. Many of those folks who had everything are now divorced, have children that are addicts, are living payday; to payday. What a fool I was to envy them. We were poor but had everything. I just didn’t realize it. We were happy . Now I’m alone and look back on those hard times and wish I could do it all again. Moral of story: Don’t live your life wishing for a different life. Enjoy the one you have and never envy others.

She would hide behind the blinds (in Spain everybody has blinds, that's the things that truly keeps people out of your business) with a pair of binoculars. She was completely obsessed not only with us, but with every single neighbour. She was a wealthy lady (we moved when we couldn't afford rent anymore) but she had maids to do all the cooking and cleaning, her husband was at home only at night, her son had already started a family of his own somewhere else... She had nothing to live for except spying on everybody in front of her. At that time I felt she was a nuisance, but now I look back and I feel compassion for her. My life can be shitty but there has things on it, not only that huge nothing one day after the other.

The metaphor of looking through another person's eyes/ window....so outright and true in this short. I loved it. I mean there was beauty, sadness, anger, and grief wrapped into growth all in one. For me, the fact that she went to help the grieving wife showed how invested in the neighbors life, without even knowing their name, she had become. But how even in her grief, the young neighbor shared her kind and almost appreciative description of a life the mother hadn't felt in while. Well done to the actors and writers.

I can’t help but to think there was more to this last scene than that. It ends with the husband asking for her how was her day, then the wife is slightly off frame while he is standing there holding the kid. She comes back to frame but is a shadow, the light is off her. Was this meant she was still disconnected to her family despite everything that had happened that day? Did she fail to make the connection that she should be happy with what she had instead of missing her youth? Or did she mourn the neighbors death because she was morning losing her youth again, as they were reliving and remembering their youth while they watched their neighbors? Something about how the wide is more of a shadow she seems disconnected to the beautiful scene of her husband holding their kid.

This film is extremely powerful.. Social media has become our neighbour's window that we cannot take our eyes of it .. but it secretly fills us with resentments and regrets in our own life when we see other people's external success, achievements, adventures and happiness without knowing the whole story behind it .. I think it's beautiful the neighbour cared so much to comfort the younger woman, even though it was awkward. I was in a public park near a beach in Australia alone hours away from my home at the time when I got a phone call that my Mum died. I fell to the ground sobbing and people just stared at me like I was weird - no-one cared, they were most likely judging me. Even a kind word from a stranger would've been comforting.

Great message. I remember as a young newly married professional, feeling pretty great in my suit, seeing a harried mom at the store and feeling sorry for her. Then, when I had kids and found out how amazing it is, even though it's tiring, I'd see a rushed career woman at the store and feel sorry for her. Ha! We should appreciate our blessings even though life has it's challenges no matter what is happening in our lives.
@krampus42 Жыл бұрын
the best thing about this film is how you actually relate to every aspect of it throughout. like in the beginning I thought having kids were hard indeed and being young is a gift. and by the end of the film I thought living a healthy long life and having a happy family is what actually matters. absolutely amazing
@SP-fw1xe Жыл бұрын
It’s because EVERYTHING matters and NOTHING matters. If you want the family life, family will matter. If you want an untethered life, freedom will matter. You just have to know what you want and be honest with yourself about it. So many people rush to make a family knowing full well they don’t want a spouse and kids.

@@SP-fw1xe agree. I’m so tired of this saying «the only things that matters in life is to get married, live long and have kids». No, not everybody wants that. And not everybody is suited to have children. This movie is not about that at all. It’s about trying to find happiness with what you have, cause just because everybody elses life seems «perfect» it doesn’t need to be.
@h20pixiedustforsleep46 Жыл бұрын
This short film really moved me. I think it's human nature to compare, but things are not always what they seem. Social media proves this more than anything. Everyone is smiling, vacationing, and showing their best life when, in reality, no one's life is perfect, and life is hard for all of us in one way or another. Love your life for what you have instead of hating your life for what you don't have. Or at least try to.

Be grateful today, even the sunshine is something when other places have clouds. It’s the small things that count. Here I am knowing this advice, but struggle with my past. Thank you for the video.

When you feel grass is greener on neighbors side, when social media suck you out by seeing other ppls happy moments, when ppls travel diaries make you feel you stuck at home , when perfect figure of a human body makes you hate looking at ur self in mirror its important to remind that we r breathing and eating where else ppl cant even do that, it's important to get up in morning and see ur family breath when some ppl don't have families, its important to live in moment and thankful to be able to live in that moment.

the only weird thing i noticed here is, if both these couples were window stalking each other (idk how else to put it), why didnt they notice the other one stalking them

Because it’s not real life

Maybe because they both did it secretly and paid attention to not being seen by the other, because they also were ashamed of watching them. Or because they only were watching the other window when something was going on there and so the couple that was being watched, was focused on each other and the moment instead of looking out of the window?

I am a 15 yr old girl. Living with ny mom who has psychological problems, my brother who is a down syndrome patient, my dad who is not so open to show his love towards me. Only me and my dad are the healthy ones. Before watching this i always cried everyday for having such a family where i am not able to get my mother's care and love in the same way others get, the love and protection from a brother and a father's warm hug. I always envied others but now when i think about it i think that i too will have a beautiful life in future and i would care that life more than others. I want to become a doctor and change everything hope that happens soon. ♥️♥️ I just saw the comments and i am so overwhelmed by seeing this. These comments just feels like a family . Just downstairs lives a couple, my hubby’s best friend and his wife (who later became my friend as well). I would always admire how beautifully they live, I still do. The way they cherish each other, hold hands and take walks together, not hesitating to embrace each other in their arms irrespective of who’s watching. My dear hubby is a good man, hardworking and aimbitious, prioritizes his family (his parents and sister) above everything else. The only thing I wish he could be is more sensitive to my emotional needs. I agree that we don’t have much in common to engage with each other most days, but sometimes I wish for him to be more attentive towards me. It’s in the little things like frequent but subtle touches here and there, occasional and sudden kisses and hugs, or simply sitting with me looking, at me without using his phone. At times, I feel so lonely in this foreign land despite being married and living with the love of my life. And I can’t help myself watching out this window, admiring the happy couple that lives downstairs. Am I asking for too much? Is the pasture really greener where we water them?

I like your sentiment but no! You definitely come from a place of not experiencing extreme problems. Some people experience domestic violence,mental abuse alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abuse and this happens in family homes. Let alone people who are escaping war, poverty. Please watch a film called 'Once Were Warriors' . It's a famous NZ film, it's a tough watch but it's the childhood so many people experience. Mine was like that but my father did it all sober.

Dharri and the fake projection makes the rest of us think that our life is unworthy and incomplete and unlucky Which Inturn pushes us to go to the extreme point of projecting our own life as a fake happy perfect fairy tale one to balance the imbalance . It’s so sad that we are being pushed like that . I’m on a social media free life for 5 years and it feels great and I feel less pressurised and learnt to value my own life given to me by my parents .

this is so true especially being in high school (my hs has over 4k people) you feel insignificant... Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. But you wrote "Moral of the story.." So it seemed like you only watched the beginning or half of the movie where it seems like "someone else always has a better life". But then the important turning point in the story happens; when you realize that the others were watching them as well - so isn't the story more about the different perspectives, that the same life seems different from alternate viewing points? Not so much "someone else has it better" but "what seems better doesn't have to be better, based on perspective"
