GREAT REACTION! 'Good Morning' is one of the greatest musical scenes of all time.

My son who is 42, started drumming when he was eight and he is a professional drummer and has gone on multiple tours with multiple bands. When he was a teenager he used to practice until his fingers were bleeding. Artists who are really dedicated to what they want to do will do what they have to do no matter what. Debbie Reynolds was amazing. She was in tears at times on that set and it 1 point, Fred Astaire who was visiting this set came up to her and tried to give her words of encouragement because Gene Kelly had been bashing her about how bad she was. 6:31

I have nothing but RESPECT for vaudeville performers, deep respect (they had to be GREAT dancers, sing, act and have comedic timing). I took some ballroom dance lessons when I was 8. Fast forward to the two years I was in the Marine Reserve. I had a fulltime job in addition to my reserve job, but because I liked cable TV, I also took a part time job as a dance instructor (I made 26.00 every two weeks, after taxes). So, watching cable, I watched movies from the 30's and 40's with dance scenes in addition to going to the library (this is pre internet) to study up on the actors of the 30's and 40's. I had always thought of Rita Hayworth as just a beautiful actress, but it turned out that she spent an entire month learning a dance scene so that she could dance with Fred Astaire (she did this twice). Ginger Rogers is always mentioned when it comes to Fred Astaire, but Rita was the better dancer, in my opinion. As a kid I saw Debbie Reynolds in several movies where she was singing and dancing. Ever see Hawaii Five-O? (1960's/70's TV show). James MacArthur (who played Dan-O) had been in West Side Story in the early 1960's. He could sing and dance. That whole crew in that movie were great. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Holy Crap!! Gene Kelly insisted upon a 17 minute dance solo in An American in Paris and ruined what I thought was a good movie because of that scene. Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actress of all time. She started out as a burlesque dancer in the famous Ziegfeld Follies. She acted in all of her movies, but sometimes she cut a mean rug with dance scenes (Ball of Fire, Lady of Burlesque). John Ritter (Three's Company) was a great dancer. In one episode he's drugged and has a great dance scene with a couch, which he copied from Fred Astaire, who copied it from Bill Bojangles.

Debbie couldn’t dance when they filmed this. Kelly taught her to dance. She said he rehearsed her until her feet bled. He was a very hard taskmaster. She was on the film lot and started crying and she complained about her bleeding feet and having to rehearse and rehearse to Fred Astaire. He said ‘but Fred said, ‘Debbie, that’s what a dancer is’.

I agree with you about this movie. This was Debbie's 1st movie. Donald O'Connor is GREAT!!

It was Debbie’s first movie? 😃 I didn’t know that! This was blocked Dennis 😞 I had to chop almost everything Mr. Kelly was in! Also I forgot to mention that Debbie had to be carried to her dressing room after the 4 minute routine was precisely done! It was also said that she had blood vessels in her feet that burst! 😟

@@KristinKali My error, "Singing" wasn't her 1st movie. It was the 1st one she danced and sang in (she said she had never done either before)! Gene Kelly taught her how to dance! Sorry for my mistake..

Vaudeville was stage acts by an ensemble- some sang, some danced, some told jokes. A Variety show!

Omg! DENNIS, DENNIS, DENNIS! (My brothers middle name btw) love it! 🥰 I thank-you so much for telling me this! I’m ENTRANCED! Infatuated! Just in HEAAAAAAVEN with this musical & all of the intricacies that go into it! Thank-you for taking the time to tell me about what vaudeville means! Gosh, is this kind of like Americas got talent? In a way?

@@KristinKali No, these were professionals. Vaudeville is more like the forrunner of TV shows like Ed Sullivan, Red Skelton and Carol Burnett.

@@dennisswainston411 The thing is the show was always changing as the individual acts moved from town to town in a circuit. Maybe a week in one location doing six shows a day at times. It was grueling work but yielded exceptional performers who knew their acts forward and backwards. They saw what worked and what didn't and adapted their acts accordingly.

Debby Reynolds was legendary watch her in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. My favorite scene in Singing in the rain is Donald O'CONNER dancing with the couch. Love your reactions, especially Elvis Presley. By the way supposedly Gene Kelly was a nightmare to work with I wouldn't want to have been that cameraman

He was a perfectionist and demanded more of himself than he did others. Yes, he'd do scene over and over until he felt it was good enough. He was sick and had a fever of over 103 when he danced "singin' in the rain". He was very well-respected and loved by most of the Hollywood community.

You may not see this response but it is about one minute and a half of Debbie telling about how Fred Astaire let him watch him rehearse and then tell her to "you go learn it." kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZTTnpJ3e9KGo6c
