Ive been using a 507c on top of my TA-02. I’ve got about 1k rnds on the setup so far. I am concerned about water and debris getting into the optic. But haven’t had the issue yet. (I live in Oregon, I just haven’t used the set up outdoors long enough) I’ve had issues with other open emitter optics and stuff getting in, in the past. I’ll just carry a microfiber cloth to clean it when it gets dirty. So far it’s been a great setup. I’m able to get a chinweld looking through the dot. At some point I intend on getting a Acro as my top dot.
@douglasmilburn3875Ай бұрын
I haven’t used a top dot on a rifle, but it seems intuitively that if your primary deal carrying the rifle, is the rifle, it probably won’t matter or be much of an issue for you. If your rifle is secondary to your task at hand, it will possibly be a bigger deal unless your threat profile is such that the rifle is maintained on your person constantly or your environment is such where loose debris and such (mud, saw dust, deep snow, sand and dust etc) aren’t a major concern. I live in Alaska and have worked in the field with weapons both as an infantryman and as a civilian. Deep snow and open emitter optics do not get along. You can manage this, especially concealed, but open holsters (to include the little cover on the 6390 rds holster, it didn’t stop snow ingress if the holster goes under the snow line) and open dots will potentially become a problem for you. If the weapon, like a rifle, is maintained in your hands, you probably won’t experience many issues. (Unless you fall or go into prone uncontrollably lol) however, if the rifle is being towed along in a sled or similar to allow you to focus on the task at hand, steps might be required to protect your optic. Something I have used is a simple zip lock baggie rubber banded over the optics (a red dot/magnifier for me but more recently an eotech) and this has been very helpful for the given issue. If you like the combination, I wouldn’t go buy a new optic before getting to the field and testing some stuff out. A simple baggie is way easier than researching, acquiring, mounting and zeroing a new optic for a potential non-issue AND a standard dot (T2 in most of my experience recently) still requires a bit of care in these rough environments if you want to maintain that glass for a long time. If you can’t completely rid the problem, just focus on simple solutions. Hope this is helpful(:
@actsloreАй бұрын
@douglasmilburn3875 thanks. I’ve been using some temporary solutions to keep stuff out. Where I’m at in Oregon, from fall to late spring, it’s wet 90% of the time. As a civy I’m not lugging my rifle with me all the time. I’m not too worried or in a rush to get a new optic. My primary is my G45. I got a 509t on it. Because it’s an enclosed optic I don’t worry about dust and lint getting into it when concealed. When in a duty holster, it’s protected. I used to carry with an open emitter style optic and it got old having to keep it clean. So closed emitters have been a big game changer. I put the hs507c on my acog because it was what I had laying around. It’s a great optic. Just not great for being in the weather and heavy use. I would get another 509t but they don’t make mounts for it to be on a acog. Acro mounts don’t work for them. I tried. So now that I have a Acro mount laying around, and have the issue of an open emitter, might as well go with the Acro p-2. The nice thing about top mounted dots is that I can just aim my acog at an object in the distance, keep it still, then adjust the red dot to line up with what the acog is aiming at. From there I can confirm zero with less work.

i guess its a pretty good economic indicator that after spending enough $ to buy an ak thats actually worth buying and spending more $ on a rail attachment thats worth attaching to it and then spending even more $ on an optic that is worth putting on a rifle that already costs that much folks still have enough $ left over for training classes and the ammo and other gear and travel expenses required

Wishing you all the best for 2025! Just watched your old video on the Magpul ASAP. Judging from the intro it seems you switched to QD end plates these days? BCM? After watching too many Ukraine trench videos, I was planning to use the ASAP with a paracord loop to make it bomb proof, but then perhaps you need a Blue Force Gear emergency release in case your sling gets caught in a burning vehicle which killed one guy. I live pretty close to Russia unfortunately. Yes, I do plan to cut down on KZbin this year 🤣🤣🤣
