That's the life cycle and why it's so important, if your life and family life is "normal", that it is in order. When the Lord calls one home you don't want regrets to follow. Many, many people only recognize their mistakes after it's too late, I know because I am one of them. No amount of wishing can make up for the mistakes I made. My cross to bear is heavy and I carry it every day.

Agree on getting wood brought to you Mike. I used to go out into the back 40, fell the tree, limb and buck it. Then figure out how the heck to get the tractor to it to skid it out since my forest is super dense. It easily doubles the time to process a cord. Now I’m blessed to have a connection with a local tree service right down the street so he brings me more wood than I know what to do with. Sometimes I have to tell him to stop for a few weeks so I can get caught up. It’s all very high quality too. But it is still fun to go drop a tree every once in a while and skid it out.

I agree about firewood poles being the most productive method of production. Even better if you obtain them through tree work you’ve been paid for!! We save all wood that’s deemed worthy from one year of our tree work. We stage it throughout the year as it comes in. Then we rent a Dyna SC-15 and work it all up in two to three days. This year we did approximately 40 cord in 2 and a half days. We have a skid loader to feed it, and an old corn elevator to assist in distributing the wood so we don’t have to move the processor. We keep the processor conveyor belt flat to pull out undesired pieces. I run it, my boss/partner feeds it, his dad sorts the off cuts and chaff with boss helping him between feeding rounds. Rental cost was $1100. Not worth mentioning the minimal fuel cost.

I envy your tractor skills, Mike Morgan, but I'll tell you what . . . My neighbor came over with his Kubota 57-4 excavator and pushed over about 20 trees on my future home build site. My MX5400 and brush grapple has been a godsend with the clean up. Thank you for showcasing that tractor in your videos. It has helped me immensely on my acreage, be it plowing snow, grading our access road and driveway, brush hogging, or brush and log cleanup. Thanks for all you do to educate us woodsy folks! Question, is the key to burning stumps just to keep adding leaf/needle laden brush on top of it? I am having a heck of a time burning all my stumps.

I've always been a music man and do music vids on my channel, but my second love has always been wood. I just enjoy watching how you've developed your land and your wood business. There's something that's peaceful about watching you split the firewood and cut the boards on the saw mill. I'd love to do both, but at my age that's not going to happen lol! So I get to enjoy it thru you. Thanks for the vids!

Looking good! The equipment used to do the fencing is amazing. When I was a kid, we used …good old post hole digger’s. Those things kept you in shape, and toughened you up on the farm. Even if you put on gloves, you would still get blisters from a long day… until you got the calluses!

I think it would help whoever is splitting the wood if you could find a big steel table to stack the rounds on with the excavator. No more bending over would be nice for everyone. Get a big one that can hold about 20 or 30 of them at a time.

I envy the availability of hardwoods for firewood. Living in the Mountains of Southern Colorado, we only have access to pine and aspen. Burns good but very fast. 2 wood stoves eat 2-3 cords each every season. I have a niece & husband who have a saw mill about 100 miles away. I get 2.5 cords at a very good price. Much better than harvesting off my mountain. Keep it up Mike and Crew

You really need a block feeder that you can load the cut rounds onto and it feeds the rounds to the person at the splitter I believe it will save a lot of bending over and back breaking work just drop the rounds (blocks) directly on the live deck

Remembering the fire wood processor with the conveyor for feeding rounds, have you considered loading the rounds into your dump trailer, perhaps with a stop bar across the opening, and raising to feed rounds to splitter? Reduces walking to get the rounds and how high you"d have to lift them. Part of the work smarter program.

Mike and Melissa, Thank you both for the entertaining video. Both You and the Fencing Crew did an excellent job setting the posts and cementing them in preparation of the installation of the 18 ft gate. Levi does a fantastic job on splitting and ranking up the rounds of firewood. I can see your practicality and approach to purchasing the firewood and lumber poles versus harvesting the majority of the trees yourself. With the time and effort and costs . It would possibly balance the deal out or end up more economical in the long run. This plan would definitely increase firewood and lumber production for sure.

hey Mike.. we enjoy your channel ... had an oak tree put on the ground the other day.... it was 20' long 18'" diameter on one end, 12" diameter on the other end. Picked it up with my 9600 lb yanmar Vio 40 as well as my 10600 lb Takeuchi 140 with grapple. Of course, that's about all either one wanted to do. Could not operate either one full range. I was impressed, nonetheless. You might entertain trading your larger machines for a little smaller ones that you can trailer on the road. I've said it before and ill say it again.... i run my excavator full throttle when im working. Allows better cooling of the hydraulics, less stress on the pump etc. Don't curl your attachment against the thumb, might be why you are getting that notch you ground down. Curling against the thumb you will have a very bad day. MAGA

How have the deer ticks been there this spring? It seems they are worse here in northern IL this spring. I noticed the breathing sound, did not say anything. Glad your OK. My dog use to do that and he would always find the smelliest mud. Supposedly its to hide their sent from predators.

@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans I dug one out of my arm the other out day after cutting and splitting wood in my woods. Was only out about 4 hours and he was dug in right on top of a vein. I think he had a mini excavator like yours 😂 Just like a politician after our blood/tax polly =many ticks this year.

It's funny, I heard your breathing on your last video and for a second I thought, "he's breathing kind of hard". Then I recalled how I take long walks and have a gopro on. When I'm walking I might breath a little harder when I go up a long hill but my breathing is generally smooth and relaxed. On the gopro, it sounds like I'm huffing and puffing like I'm about to die.

Make containers for the pizza wood ovens or the small Solo stoves, just about the right size containers!

i would think if you put the big stump on the bottom and the branches on top of them the stumps would burn better and longer all the hot coals would be on top of the stumps but i have never done this it's just a question dave from ct
