Fun fact- in the commentary, Neil Gaiman (the writer) revealed that Michael Sheen (Aziraphale) said that he believes Crowley saving his books in the church was the moment he realized he was in love with Crowley. So depending on how you want to look at it, Aziraphale either fell in love with him in that moment, realized that’s actually what he’d been feeling for Crowley for all those years, or had already known he had feelings for Crowley and that was the moment he realized Crowley felt the same.

Personally, I like to believe that Crowley fell in love with Aziraphale (or at least acquired a crush) back in the Garden of Eden, more specifically the moment he found out that Aziraphale gave away his sword. And he has been aware of his infatuation for millenia now and has come to terms with it (althouth it took him a long time to accept it lol). Meanwhile, I think Aziraphale obivously developed a crush on Crowley gradually throughout the 6000 years without noticing it (he possibly first got a crush on Crowley all the way back in Heaven, before the Fall, as shown in season 2) , but he only became aware of the fact he was deep in love with him in 1941, after Crowley saved him and his books. I think that by the time Aziraphale hands him the holy water, both of them are well aware of their own romantic feelings, but obviously cant be open about them because of angst and plot and all that good stuff ("You go too fast for me Crowley.") Anyway, my point is - I think they have loved each other for aorund the same time, but Crowley probably realized it much MUCH earlier than Aziraphale did.

I like to think that he knew right from the start that he was in love. After all, he's been around humans for 6000 years and some of them have probably talked to him about their feelings, so he probably listened and thought, "Oh my! That's how I feel too!" He probably believed Heaven's spiel that "Demons can't love" and thought his feelings were unrequited until Crowley risked his life to save him and even saved Azi's books because he knows how important they are to him. That's my headcanon anyway! ❤

My interpretation of why Crowley gets so defensive and upset when Aziraphale points out that he's nice is that he spends _so much time_ having to tensely convince other demons that he's genuinely bad, and if he shows any signs of weakness, it'll all be over for him. He's so used to having to react that way when _they_ accuse him of being a nice person, or going soft, so it's an automatic survival-mechanism to get all angry and try to convince the person that it's not true.
@davidpacheco268
@davidpacheco268 9 ай бұрын
I like to think that Crowley just rejects Aziraphale's definition of "good" and "nice". He knows that, to Aziraphale, they mean Heaven's definition of them, which is following the rules blindly, something we know Croey hates. Even if Aziraphale doesn't mean it, when he calls Crowley nice for doing a good thing, that's what's he's thinking about. Crowley knows that for Heaven (and Aziraphale), there is just good and evil, no in-between, no nuance. In season 2, I think it's Nina that calls Crowley nice, I believe, and he doesn't react the same way. Of course, he doesn't have the same intimacy with Nina that he does with Aziraphale (comparing to s1 ep2 when he pushed him against the wall), but I think it's based on him knowing that Nina's and Aziraphale's definitions of good are different. Humans are nuanced, good doesn't mean perfect and Crowley knows that, when Nina calls him nice, that's not what she means. Her perception of being good and nice is probably really close to "a demon who goes with hell as far as he can" (can't remember the exact quote)

Deep down Crowley is the most moral and compassionate character in the series, though agreed, his survival depends on everyone else being convinced of the opposite, which makes him something of a tragic figure. In my own head canon, Crowley was formally an archangel, a healer and starmaker, whom loved God's creation more than any of them. When God needed someone to be Hell's representative on earth, this archangel who became Crowley volunteered, knowing that he (they, it whatever) had so much love for creation and such a strong moral compass that they could never fully be corrupted. God knew this to be true and agrees, cautioning the angel who would become Crowley that his/ it's memories would be wiped and replaced to protect him while taking on the role of Hell's representative on earth, and that the torments he would experience would be very real. As a balm for all the suffering he would soon endure, God takes the "grace" ripped from the archangel when he falls, and uses it to create Azirapheal, Heaven's representative on earth. Aziraphael and Crowley are two halves of a whole. Which is why when they unite in S2 to create one "small" miracle together, it appears to have been cast by the mightiest of archangels...because it has been.

I really appreciate that you understood that Shadwell was the only actual member of the Witchfinder Army, because I've seen some people who didn't get that, lol. Also, the bit about the "people in Time Square can't see America" just meant that you can't really see something when you're inside of it, just like Anathema couldn't see Adam's aura because it was so big it was encompassing everything around her, so it just looked like air to her.

@Natala00 9 ай бұрын
Hint of how subtle this show is, and the skill of the acting. 1967 was not random. 1967 was when homosexuality was legalized in England. Azi would know that, working in Soho, the gayest part of London. So yeah "You go too fast for me, Crowley." was deliberate, beautifully acted out by mister Sheen and went right over Crowley's head. The contrast between the two is. Azi is aware of his feelings, and has chosen to not act on them because of their sides. Crowley is a lot more oblivious, but has this need to be in Azi presence to save, support, follow and take him to lunch so he can stare at him like a weirdo without eating anything.
@HuntingViolets

I don't think "You go too fast for me, Crowley" went over Crowley's head or that he has been unaware of his feelings by this point. I think that his offer to give Aziraphale a lift anywhere he wanted was implying something too (the bookshop or Crowley's flat seem like good options), which is why Aziraphale suggests he is going too fast but also hopes that they can someday dine at the Ritz or go on a picnic. I do agree about Crowley's need to "save, support," etc. Very cute.

I love that Aziraphale and Crowley are both in the same boat: two fallen angels who are both still really good people, but because of the sides they initially chose back when the demons became demons, Crowley has to pretend to be bad, and Aziraphale has to pretend to be Heaven's version of good. Really they're both good, and both beautifully flawed, and neither one of them is what they're supposed to be, according to their side, and that's why we love them so much. It's what makes them our heroes, and perfect for protecting the earth. They're more like us.

They became friends while filming season 1. I've seen interviews where both Neil and David have explained that when they did the first table read for season 1, things were a little awkward with Michael and David when it started, but it only took about 45 minutes for the chemistry to kick in. It also occurred to me that Crowley is the braver of the two in some ways because he has much more to lose if they're caught than Aziraphale does. Aziraphale would probably fall and become a demon; Crowley has already been through that so what he is risking is total destruction. Because 1967 is when England legalized homosexuality. And azi got gay/angel panic. Remember, in this point in history, Azi does not see any way for a demon or angel to be romantic, they could get destroyed. He has suppressed this notion, and is distancing himself from the sexy demon, and certainly won't let him tempt him by driving anywhere with him. Crowley however, is a bit more clueless and just knows he is drawn to Azi. And yes, 1941 Crowley is such husband energy.

Oh cool I never really factored that in that their attitudes change based on how humanity evolved. Gives more depth to them "going native" i suppose. I always just thought that the holy water gesture was a subtle indication to Crowley that he was in love with him like how saving Aziraphale in the church and rescuing his books was a niave gesture of love from Crowley. The way he hands it over to stop him and "after everything you said" seemed as though Az was thinking of handing it over for a while and struck up the nerve when Crowley intended to pull a holy water heist as it were

I mean, knowing you are in love with someone and/or love someone doesn't mean they can actually have a relationship. Aziraphale is scared, not unjustified tbh, that they will be discovered and punished for working together. If heaven or hell discover that they weren't only working together but were in a relationship, I'm sure the punishment would be even worse. Crowley isn't really helpful in that regard. He's alright with breaking rules, and isn't so afraid as Aziraphale, and he kind of brushes Azi's fears off with a "we won't be found out" which doesn't really solve Aziraphale's problem or his anxiety.

Adam is using his powers, without realising it. He isn't an evil kid, but in his dreams there are voices whispering and he does things subconsciously. He read about how nuclear waste is dangerous, so he unknowingly changes the world to what he wants. That can be a good and bad thing, depending on what he wants, and how much hell will be able to influence him. Right now his influence is the magazines Anathema gave him. Yeah, Aziraphale is scared. He is a rule follower, and to be fair, if he is caught working with Crowley he will be punished, Crowley too probably. So when Crowley says "they won't find out" when Aziraphale worries about it, that doesn't really help Azi's anxiety. Because that doesn't actually answer his questions. They might very well be found out, and assuming they won't be is not going to soothe his worries. Poor Crowley though, he bears the brunt of Aziraphale's worries in the break up. Our pair of ineffable husbands (the ship name) is having a relationship crisis that has been brewing for a while. The rule following vs rule breaking qualities are clashing and both sides are understandable. It's not spelled out, but Crowley presents female in the crucifixion scene, and also decides to be a female presenting nanny in episode 1, which has lead to the conclusion in the fandom that Crowley is gender fluid, but chooses a male presentation most often. I have read many fanfics where his gender fluidity plays a role, and there are also many stories about either of them changing their bodies/presentation as they like. The book makes it clear that neither of them really have a gender, or sex characteristics. They can have an anatomically correct body if they "make the effort". Basically, they are genderless beings stuffed into a flesh suit, that may or may not have genitals or a gender presentation, as they prefer. So now the word used for genitals in many fanfic is now "effort". 🤭

Loved this reaction video and you're a delight to listen to! Who's your favorite character so far?

Thank you! And probably Crowley although Aziraphale is the absolute sweetest!

When Dog hesitates to go inside Anathema's cottage, it's because he can't due to the horseshoe being a ward to prevent anything demonic entering. Then when Adam orders him to go in, he's finally able to. It's like how in season 2, demons can't enter Aziraphale's bookshop unless invited (except of course for Crowley who has a permanent free pass.)

Fun fact: Neil Gaiman actually confirmed the fact that Crowley's gender fluid, which explains why their hair style changes overtime

I thought it was in the book, something about being straight/gay "if they really tried" (don't remember exactly what it said but it was along the lines of that)
@jamiecaniglia
@jamiecaniglia 9 ай бұрын
@@lillyf973 you mean that part where Neil wrote about how angels don't have particular sexes unless they make an effort? That's the line about Aziraphale, not Crowley. Plus, s3x≠gender≠pronouns. Aziraphale may not have a gender to begin with, but Neil did say how he liked to think of Crowley as genderfluid in his tumblr asks

I think it's interesting here that Crowley's actually the one who says he can't kill a kid. Aziraphale's also just been to see his bosses who are now highly suspicious of him - if he and Crowley get caught conspiring they're both going to get wiped out of existence. Michael Sheen is a delight and he plays Aziraphale so adorably, I think we often forget that he's actually as far from Angelic as Crowley is from Demonic.
