TODAY’S SUBJECT is a I walk into the town centre and comments as to why Nuneaton is such a good place to live.

I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016. Since I retired it’s like a second childhood but with more expensive toys.

I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. I also started an afternoon acoustic session in a quite large cafe in Nuneaton. Both premises were former songwriting clients of mine.

Its always a pleasure to watch your videos John. I was born in Nuneaton and lived on St Nicholas Park but moved away when i was 11. Still have family ties to the town and going back always brings back so many happy memories from my childhood.

I like your videos, particularly the cycling ones. Re barber shops. It is a common belief they are fronts for money laundering, hence the proliferation .Keep up the good work

It’s nice to see such someone with such a positive outlook on our town. A lot of places in the town centre have shut down which is sad and even as a uni student I think we have to many vape shops. Betting places too are something we have more of then we really need. However, there’s still a lot of businesses in the town centre that I always look forward to coming back to. I appreciate that you highlighted Nuneatons diversity in a positive light. It’s very saddening when I find a video of Nuneaton in its heyday only for the comments below to complain how our town has been ruined by immigration. I lived very close to Edward Street and in my mind Nuneaton is a place with people various backgrounds and Ive always felt we were stronger for it. I really like as well that you highlighted our Nepalese community as feel that our history with the Gurkas is something very unique to us and is not always acknowledged by others. Nuneaton is also like you said a very well connected town. Me and my mates would regularly do day trips to Birmingham, Cov and Leicester and will still do so now for nights out. You can also get direct trains to London as well as cities up north thanks to our placement on Britain’s west coast mainline. The past few years a few things have happened that have sullied my opinion of my home town but I still think on the whole there’s a lot of good things we have when compared to Hinckley, Bedworth or Tamworth. Many thanks for these kind comments. My appreciation of the diversity of people in Nuneaton is part of my Bahá’i Faith. It’s watchword is unity of the human race and a celebration of the diversity of our cultures. One of our community is a Nepalese gentleman which gives me an added insight to their culture and role in our society. The rest of our Bahá’i community includes Dutch, Iranian, Slovenia, Italian, Indian, Irish, Swazi and English and, of course English. Hi John, I liked the walk around the town. It looks like a laid back friendly community with a sense of history and nature. One the comments pointed out that there is a lot of development going on, which may impact negatively quality of life. Here in San Diego we have the same problem. New housing and commercial developments result in less space for wildlife and more traffic. By the way, are there any bookstores there? Thank you for the video. I especially liked seeing some of the people who live and work there.

Very enjoyable video this. We also have at least 4 sports centres, a skate park, Arbury Hall, Hartshill Hayes, Astley Castle, a museum and art gallery, at least 2 local breweries. Our train station is excellent and we are not too far away from both East Midlands and Birmingham airports. Nearby we have Bosworth battlefield, Hoare Park in Ansley, Triumph visitor centre in Hinckley and that’s without looking at Coventry or Tamworth. The Turkish barbers are a money laundering front. As it’s normal for customers to pay with cash for a haircut it makes it easy for organised crime to out in extra money and make it “legitimate”. The gangs were using car washes.

I’ll jump in quick and say I’d expect negative comments about our town. Every town or city seems to have a quick and loud voice to knock their own area. I am purposely only looking at the positive things to be seen in Nuneaton. Of course I could bang on forever about the downside of the town but that was not my point, which I think I point out at the start of the video. No doubt there’s more negativity to come.

In our own, very small town we have lost all the banks but have gained 4 barbers, two of which only opened for business over the Christmas week. What is going on? Are hair trimmings the new currency and these people are out to fleece us? Any ideas John?

Let’s get a few facts straight. We still have NatWest, Barclays Lloyds and Halifax., so we haven’t lost all the banks. Occasionally I need to call in the NatWest branch but for the most part I now do all my banking online. In fact I don’t handle cash anymore and my bank and credit cards are on my wrist,in the virtual wallet on my iPhone. This is the way things are going. I am going to do a video about this soon. Watch this space.

@@JRLNeal Nuneaton is very fortunate to have kept some of its banks, our poor little Post Office has to fill in for the shortfall, not ideal for at least a couple of reasons - limited space and delays other PO business. I look forward to your 'watch this space' video. Thank you John.

Wow! Do u ever look outside your front door in the morning John. 50 years ago u never saw a traffic queue outside of it. Its now at least 1 mile long leaving the town,Borough and county!!! Nuneaton is one big traffic jam. No decent shop. You can't not buy anything in Nuneaton. The council are obsessed with building houses / flats to make money from council tax. The council has 0 financial input in the town except what they really have to provide. Nuneaton is HORRIBLE. I've watched the decay!! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE!! OPEN UR EYES PLEASE..

@@hvacrwrld1402 I really don't blame u.. lived across the road from John for 26 years, i now live the other side of town. Traffic is ok here until u get near to town. Its like a 54 year prison sentence. 5 minute walk from home now and I'm out of the Borough.😃
