Good Question: How does the post office deliver mail?

I'm a mail carrier, this video explains the process at the major plant. I can assure you that not all the mail comes in order. The process to get your mail out is a big task. There is a big difference in how city and rural route mail is delivered.

This roughly explains what we call DPS mail its mail already in order. Most carriers have to sort their mail by hand. So you can imagine how long that usually takes we have no machine that does it for us just our own hands. The question that gets on my nerves is “what takes you so long” if they come and spend 1 day with the carriers they might understand but I know some people just don’t care

@@chucky3285 not quite, we get paid by the "Rate" of the route. So if a computer says we should be done in 9 hours, that how much we get paid for.

I recently got a letter one year after it was mailed. I think it fell on the floor under a sorting machine, and remained there until someone found it and put it back on its way.

I have a package coming from IL. It has been moving back & forth in IL for 3 days and is still in IL. I had another pkg move around near Mpls MN for a few days, came to my town then went back for Mpls for a few more days before it finally got here. WTH!! There is SOMETHING wrong with their system!

Inefficiently 10-40% of the letters are upside down, depends on the day. They don’t create stops lists for you, interactive maps etc.

according to usps tracking my package was supposed to arrive yesterday (the 4th) by 9pm. the latest update is it arrived at a "local" regional facility yesterday at 10 am, nothing since. now it says arriving by the 9th should I be concerned

What ever the sorters in the Rodchester ny hub want they take or lose ,then all the un wanted packages go on the ones that usps sorters want you only get in transit to next facility arriving late .and thats all you get .

Well, my PRIORITY MAIL was sent from Birmingham Al supposedly yo Dubois, Wy. Its been ten f' ing days! Its gone from Bham to Denver to Bham to denver to Colorado Springs to Denver, left Denver arrived in denver repeatedly about 8 times already. I STILL DONT HAVE IT!

I want to contact the United States post master and tell them I'm not getting my mail. I can see it but it's not iny mailbox. I can see my mail through mobil USPS. So why it's not in my mailbox. I worked for Integrated mail and sorted mail. So I know how to sort mail. I was one of the quickest on the line.

The USPS application will sometimes just notify you that one of your letters has entered the correct post office. In a perfect world it would be out the same day and get delivered. Some times the letter that needs to go to one address gets mixed in with another carriers mail and it needs to be resorted, however at the point it only should take about a day longer two days max
