I’ve worked for USPS for 20 years. It has really changed over the years. It used to be top priority to deliver mail. Now that employees quit or retire, we don’t rehire and we have to do more with less. Doesn’t help that usps hires more management so we are so micromanaged that we can’t do our jobs because management won’t get their bonuses if we work too many hours. All this is caused simply because we do not hire enough employees to handle all the mail and packages we get!

Short-term solution is to spread those trucks out to other post offices. Get everything that was leaving that area processed and moving toward its destination. They should implement them in this case.

This is s systemic problem. One that started with "streamlining the process" of delivery. I live in Middlesboro, KY. All my mail coming from within the state still must travel to Knoxville, TN before returning here. Senator Hawley has already grilled the Post Master General about this type of thing but the video didn't show the whole senate hearing so I don't know what is going on with that. I can say, this problem is not at the local level. It is at the distribution centers and that is where things need to be fixed, desperately!

Let's talk about the real problem with the Postal service. Over the last 4 years there has been more than 15 million people allowed to enter this country. Thats not counting the sneakers that didn't get caught! Everywhere you go from grocery stores with empty shelves to waiting in lines forever to do anything. The postal service has gone from a letter driven company to a package delivery company. The postal service has a mandate from congress to deliver to EVERY HOME AND BUSINESS in the United States. It's called "going the last mile". Meaning if there is a home or business at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (which there is) then we must deliver to the bottom and then bring any mail there back to the top for delivery. Why do you think there are mule trains that go to the bottom and back up. It's not just for tourists. It's to deliver mail also. Did you know that there is a Post office at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. There is. Also UPS and FedEx pays the post office to take packages down to the bottom so they don't have to deliver it themselves. These companies do this all over the country where it's hard to get to. I was standing in line at a post office years ago when I overheard a lady in front of me complaining about stamp costs rising to$.42cents at that time. We were in Ohio so I tapped her on her shoulder and asked her to deliver my letter that I was mailing to California for 42 cents. She got real quiet real fast. Please remember this please. As mentioned in the comments😮 I've read, postal employees that are over 50 yrs old are retiring at a high rate. This is true. The younger generations that are working for the Postal Service are not as invested in their jobs as are the people retiring. I feel the Postal Service will get worse and I hope for our country that it's not privatized because no smart business person would invest in a company that makes no profit

@@UncleStepon it's been at least a year, then we had multiple checks stopped there for over a month last March-May so we tested it over the summer by shipping things to both our homes as well as my family on the other side of the river. Mine got kicked off in St Louis and sat there for several weeks instead of being delivered, my family's went several hundred miles past St Louis to the next distribution center where it got sent to their local post offices and were delivered just fine. Whatever happened in October sure didnt help though, my mom still hasnt received multiple items from family that were sent prior to Christmas.

@ yes, the initial hand off and test markets for the new system ups wanted to implement started last spring, and FedEx no longer cared what happened bc they were losing 100% of the business October 1. This is the root of the problem. A competence crisis at the post office when changing the scans and scanning system.

That's because the post office pays its delivery employees waaaaay less than any other delivery company. And because of that no one wants to work there, part time employees get weekend, holidays and random days during the week if people call out, and don't get me started on City vs Rural because there are time constraints on city carriers and rural carriers get told "you have this long to do it any more than that is free time you won't be paid for" but same difference you get paid the time if it takes you less.

Not only do they pay more than delivery services like Amazon (the richest company in the world, that can delivery in hours to days) but they provide medical insurance including dental and vision, paid time leave and paid sick time, paid holidays off, federal pension and retirement (which is why they can retire earlier than most). What if you got to a restaurant, wait 2 hours for an undercooked meal and they cooks excuse is he is not paid enough? Try to keep in mind that our taxes pay their salaries and for a mail services. We also gave them a major bail out with taxes just 4 years ago. Small businesses pay for the service to deliver on time or lose money and customers. People get bills late and face fees or shut offs, or could not get their tax refunds lost in the mail for months. Or Christmas gifts on time. This is not victimless. Good employees deserve raises, bad ones should be fired. They get more than most. No excuse for the massive failure across the country right now with the USPS. Clearly the system and management and hiring practices are the problem. We gave them more money and it has only gotten worse. PS They are mainly paid salary but what would be hourly pay still breaks down to more than what other delivery services pay. Example in my state, start pay to deliver is $20, Amazon is $18 (but without all the perks I mentioned above that USPS workers get). Mail room workers and other positions get start pay of $25-$40 an hour depending on position. Again, that is start pay, people get raises as they work somewhere longer especially while doing a good job. The perks I mentioned above are priceless.
@psychodyke239 күн бұрын
@@leahrogers5769There is literally a contractual agreement stating they are to be paid a similar rate to FedEx and UPS, this was made in the 70s. There was an office in Vermont in 2021 that had 2 carriers for 8 routes, everyone quit, now I'm not sure of the reason for quitting but they had to pull from other locations in the state, and even then people being forced there would quit too. You don't wanna be forced to work 12hrs a day and only paid for 9hrs so you? They started pulling from other states at that point and as of 2024 they are STILL short staffed and struggling. I have yet to see anything on a federal pension but I do pay into a retirement fund for myself which they match 5% of, but it's an investment situation like the G fund which was used to bail out our Government last in 2023. They might have a huge staffing issue that is causing that back up, and when you don't treat your employees right they don't stay. Even my office is short staffed, luckily it's not FT carriers it's only PT ones.

Because we spend billions to save millions. We have small offices in our area that are rented.
