I must have been 10 or 11 years old when me and my family saw him at the new grand ol’ oprey in Tennessee. Probably around 2011 or 2012. I didn’t really know what I was getting in to, but my parents love country, so we went to the country music hall of fame and saw Elvis Presley’s car. But we went to the country music award show (not sure what the exact name was) and I vividly remember Charlie playing this song, and his bow was frayed and flabby, and his fiddle was literally smoking from the friction. But he played this song and since then I new that good music isn’t found in one genre or another, it’s about humanity and stories that touch your soul. If you know where to look you can find it in any genre.

I saw Charlie Daniels and Travis Tritt in concert (for my first time) in Oklahoma in December of 2019. Charlie was so dope and could still shred on his fiddle. He expressed his love for the USA, it’s citizens, and especially its men and women in uniform protecting our freedom and there was not one dry eye in the theater. He also saw a young boy in the front row who was dancing to the music and Charlie walked right over to him in the middle of a song and gave his bow to the boy. Pretty awesome souvenir and memory for that youngster. Now that he has passed I’m deeply saddened but also thankful that I decided to buy that ticket and drive from Texas to Oklahoma to see him perform. As I sat there just a few rows back I was amazed at how spry he was for being in his 80s. It just goes to show you that live is precious, health is paramount, and every day is a gift. RIP Charlie!

“A Cherokee elder was teaching his young grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil- he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt and ego. The other is good- he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you-and inside every other person, too." The boy thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?" The elder simply replied, "The one you feed.”

I fell very lucky that, I got to meet and interact with Mr. Daniels. I worked at a golf course that hosted his charity tournament, for a children's home in Tampa. I consider at an honor and a privilege. but, not because he was famous, or his immense talent. it was the character of the man himself. I don't quite know how to describe it, other than to say he treated me (and everyone else) like he had known us all of our lives. I was of course, nervous as I could possibly be, the first time I had to go and ask him a question. I mean he is Charlie Daniels, and I am some lowly assistant pro, at a small club in Brandon, Fl., right? it made no difference to him, he turned to me, smiled and gave me his full attention, with grace and mutual respect. ZERO ego, elitism, or arrogance from that man whatsoever. he was truly a class act, and downright wonderful human being. RIP Mr. Daniels.

R.I.P. Charles Daniels I actually saw them live a few years ago with a friend at Billy Bobs 😁 Not really my kind of music I thought BUT shit it was a badass show...lots of blues. Such a great show I bought a tank top 😉

Had to laugh at you a little, considering my strong background in this type of music. The instrument that Charlie Daniels was playing is a fiddle. That's why the solos on the song are so crazy...Charlie was a master of the fiddle, as well as guitar. The fact that Charlie could play the devil's part and Johnny's part is amazing. Loved your reaction...I know that this isn't your type of music, but at around 4:20 in the afternoon we can all jam as brothers.

I think this was the best reaction to this song I've seen to this yet. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏻💙🎉

Love the song myself. But saw some confusion in the term fiddle. Fiddle is a violin, but often referred as a fiddle almost exclusively in American folk music, your bluegrass, Appalachian, occasionally older country, cajun. They all share this fact of calling it all a fiddle because of the widespread use of the fiddle in American folk.

Violin has strings…a fiddle has strangs, dear. In county/bluegrass music, it’s a fiddle. Loved your reaction had me cryin 😂 👏👏👏

Check out "Uneasy Rider"...Great story song. I've had the privilege of having Mr. Daniels on my sports radio show numerous times. He was a solid dude and always amiable. Salt of the Earth dude right there. Yeah, he was a bit rough, but that's why we loved him.

I've heard many country music fans say that the difference between a violin & a fiddle is that a violin has strings, but a fiddle has STRANGS! Mr. Daniels doing a little bit of Southern rapping before the word "rap" was barely known to mainstream media. This is one of those fun upbeat songs that crosses genres & makes everybody clap their hands & tap their feet. :-) Charlie passed away on July 6th at age 83... RIP

Don’t know it it’s noticeable to you all but it’s a well known fact to fiddle players around the world when old Charlie Daniels plays devil went down to Georgia , by the end he has wore all the strings off his bow. I made it my life learning to play like him ❤️( by the way in case you are wondering the funny words to the chores is all names of square dances)

P.s. many fiddle players seldom change their bow strings. Certainly not after every song!

Kid you're blessed by god and the devil doesn't stand a chance. Look at all the happiness and joy you bring to other's? That is a gift and you've found a way to use it. I love this for you. ❤

A fiddle is really just another word for a violin. But in southern rock and some country, the violin is not played in a classical style at all, it's a comparatively new style that is all-american. This is a fiddle. What Charlie does with his violin in this song makes it a fiddle, rather than a violin. Closest explanation I could get.

It's a fiddle if you're buying it, and a violin if you're selling it.
@andyb16534 жыл бұрын
I thought there was a size difference too? Like if a violin is like a guitar, a fiddle is like a ukulele.
@dragonflyparade81434 жыл бұрын
It isn't "all American". It was famous as a fiddle in many other nations before America was invented, lol. Ireland, for example, where fiddle playing old style and new has gone for time immemorial.
@cherylwilkinson32284 жыл бұрын
@@andyb1653 A fiddle and a violin are the same thing and the same size. It is the style of music played that makes it a fiddle.

As an Irish fiddler put it "You *perform* on the violin and you PLAY the fiddle".

I love this reaction the most because you ARGUE WITH JOHNNY about the devil, not knowing the devil is gonna lose the whole time! It gets me every single time, because I'm over here with you "You do it Johnny, bring your soul! To me, you better DO IT! Johnny! Johnny is gonna BRING THE LIGHTNING just wait! You don't even KNOW!" And I preach it to you about how Johnny DOESN'T lose, and the DEVIL is GOING DOWN in Georgia TONIGHT! I love it. So much fun to work out to

I just LOVE your videos! I'm one of the "older" viewers and know darn near every song I've watched of yours. The way you stopped the video and was hollarin at Johnny not to do it had me cracking up!
