I’m a fifty-year-old Canadian who has lived in Japan for twelve years, and I was stuck with the 90s and 2000s stuff until I figured out about you guys in 2023. You made me dust off my guitars and loop station and fall in love with funk music. Now, I’m gathering with friends to play on small stages. Thank you so much. It’s funny that you make covers of famous artists and I’m making covers of you. lol. I watched the video of you guys playing in Frankfurt, and I agree with Ryan Lerman when he said, “We didn’t write these songs. We just made them better”, and it’s so true. You really make any song better than the originals. Regarding Abby Celso, I could stay in front of this girl, watching her singing for days. It’s incredible how she was enjoying herself while performing. And singing with that beautiful smile just made the whole thing look so easy. Maybe it was for her. Her confidence was peaking. She is a world-class star., Whenever you come to Japan, I will surely be there to watch you guys. Thank you very much.

I mean Abby obviously has a ridiculously sweet voice, but her performance is lifted by the fact that she looks like she’s having a great time singing it. I enjoy people enjoying themselves, it’s enjoyable!

This is the definitive version for me. Dropping the “fucking” in the first verse is the logical loss of the lone word that would have disturbed Abby Celso’s relaxed, soaring, confident mood of the song, expressing someone at ease with herself and the world around her, not needing a relationship to be whole, but rather accepting what may come only if it feels right, not afraid of moving on if it turns out not to be. I love the lyrics, and I don’t mind cursing where it makes sense but listening to the original, it changes the song immediately, feeling like it was aggressively rejecting something. This here is bliss, my favorite song of the entire funk-it series. Thank you!!!

love everything about this so much... Lemar's snare and easygoing groove, Tim's sparse and punchy lines, Ryan's super tasteful fills and blend, Jack's smooth call-and-response with Ryan, Abby's warm and creamy tone and melisma, Caleb's *crystal* clear mix with the groove in the middle and wide bg soundstage, the perfectly balanced arrangement that trails off with the beautiful dominant... heavenly!

as we crawl into 2021, *this* is the performance of the year (2020) for me! Jack and Ryan, seriously, THANK YOU for putting this together... this is the pinnacle of music! It's the perfect blend of old and new... it's got that old vinyl sort of mix with the bass and drums in the middle with the two-part comps panned (not quite hard) left and right, Abby's beautiful overdriven vocals in the B? prechorus part right before the chorus modulates, Lefebvre channeling Jamerson 110%, but that super modern (piccolo?) super high tuned, snappy-ass snare razoring its way down the middle of the mix.... and yet it's as casual-sounding as some random jam that these cats spent 20 minutes on! unbelievable. fan for life

How would one learn to appreciate the sound design? I can't detect any objective differences compared to how the sound was years ago
@simitheaudioman4 жыл бұрын
@@yiklongtay6029 It’s mostly about the quality of capture, less bleed, better mics and they seem to have a lot more of a deliberate vision for the post production of each song, creating specific sounds (plus overdubs) depending on the track. They could only go so far with the lofi live room vibe.
@jas_bataille3 жыл бұрын
@@yiklongtay6029 Well for a first, this isn't sound design... sound design is creating sounds from scratch for movies and video games mostly, literally all the sounds you hear in a movie or almost are created in post-production, and that is sound design. Sure there is arguably a little bit of sound design here but it really is production/recording/mixing. It sounds much more pro, refined, precise. That doesn't mean it sound objectively better, but hey, no one said objective differences are easy to spot.To be honest tho, Jack was always nothing short of stellar as a producer himself, so that's just icing on the cake here, the production was always on point!
