Good Times (1979) Officially Ended After This Happened.
Good Times echoed greatness in its rawest form. Like many of the shows that were ruling television around the same time it came out, the show was majorly premised on comedy. However, a little twist was added by the producers of the show to decided to incorporate family values into it. So now, we have a show that is, for starters, filled with black comics, with extensive years of individual success to their belts, coupled with them being one happy family; it was almost like the show couldn’t be more perfect.

People lost hope for the show but the final straw for the small few remaining viewers was after Thelma's fiancé got injured, at their own wedding. That destroyed his football career, before it even got started, No money, nothing. After that, the show got even more depressing. The theme and message of the show, you will never make it out of the projects.

You know what bothered me about 'Keith" was that he had to move into Thelma's parents' apartment. Where was he living before and why couldn't they afford a small place??? If James was still alive, Keith would not have known who Thelma was. The writers did the Evans family a disservice.

@oldschoolfunkster1
@oldschoolfunkster1 6 ай бұрын
@@LovetteKourt... Yeah, he was old fashioned in that sense. But I don't think he, like many men, ask that of women when children are involved. The best option for a child is to have a parent, and who better than the mom, to be there raising them. "No dad" homes, and moms working to make ends meet make better odds that their children will end up in trouble. So even though it might sound anti-feminist, that would be the best option for the betterment of the family unit. And as parents, we all know WE don't come first in priority anymore. We lose that when we have children.

Although I do respect, and he was one my favorite actors on that show, I can understand the irritation he might have caused the writers. It's THEIR show. If he didn't like it, then, don't accept the job. It's like taking a job as a model to have a portrait painted...and then telling the painter what colors he should be using. I'd be saying "Next".

@@byronrush9802 ... I never said he was wrong. I actually applaud him for taking his stance. But unfortunately, there was a price to pay. His job. Now, he REALLY has no input to the show. I can also understand the writers irritation in Mr. Amos trying to rescript their work. THEY are the makers of that show. Mr. Amos was basically their set prop. And that could easily be replaced by another starving actor. Sometimes actors get a "higher than almighty' attitude because their show is popular. They start demanding stuff. So much, that they demand their way out of a job. Same like when they demand exuberant raises on their contracts. Hollywood is a very egotistical business. You step on the wrong toes...and you're out. Easily replaced. The only solution to this is like Oprah or Tyler Perry did. Start and run your own production company. You can do what ever you want then.

@csmith2484 Actually, Rolle and Amos were very jealous of JJ. One of the executives of the show said in an interview that when the fan mail came in, all of it was addressed to JJ, no one else. This made Rolle and Amos very mad. The executive goes on to say that they had to hide JJ'S fan mail from the rest of the cast. The same thing happened to Steve Urkle. Urkle was supposed to make only one appearance on the show, but after his "one appearance," people started calling in requesting that the NERDY kid do more episodes, and once again, this made the main cast members jealous, because Steve became the main character, and that didn't sit well with the other cast members. So, this is not about buffoons. It's about pure jealousy. Furthermore, JJ is a good man. He never once got on the radio or television bashing them the way they were bashing him. In fact, he knew they were bashing him and never said one negative thing about them.

As a white man, raised in a rougher part of Little Rock, I can tell you that 3 black men played a HUGE role in how I carried myself as a father and husband. Good Times and James Evans taught me tough love and working your a$$ off to provide for your family. The Cosby Show and Cliff Huxtable taught me that talking and education matter, and that it was ok to be a little silly. Communication was easily his strongest trait. Fresh Prince and Uncle Phil taught me that you don't have to be the father of a young man to help him grow. All three taught me the value of treating your queen like a queen, but still being a leader in the home. As well as the importance of simply "being present" in the household. I'd like to think that if 3 black men could have such an influence on a poor southern white child....Anything is possible. Especially if we just LISTEN to eachother. Peace.

The bottom line is the show "GOOD TIMES" went TOTALLY DOWN HILL after they killed the FATHER'S character JAMES EVANS SR off the show. A poor black family in the GHETTO needed a STRONG FATHER FIGURE for PROTECTION, GUIDANCE, and DISCIPLINE. And the actor JOHN AMOS did an EXCELLENT job portraying a STRONG, NO-NON-SENSE, LOYAL, and PROTECTIVE FATHER on the sitcom. And after his character was killed off, the EVANS family was harassed much more frequently by the CRIMINAL ELEMENTS, and the EVANS CHILDREN got in MUCH MORE TROUBLE and made MORE MISTAKES. Out of ALL father figures portrayed on a TV SITCOM, the character that JOHN AMOS portrayed on GOOD TIMES was THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES, and without that FATHER FIGURE that JOHN AMOS portrayed, the GOOD TIMES SITCOM was DOOMED and JUMPED THE SHARK, and TOTALLY FELL OFF.

Once John Amos was gone, the show was over. I was 6 or 7yrs. old watching Good Times. And the strong father figure was aspiring, with a sense of pride. I only watch the season’s that have John Amos in them, 1,2, and 3. Even though I always had a crush on Thelma, to this day!

Good Times is my favorite family sitcom of all time. It's the blueprint for all to follow. John Amos's role was ground-breaking. Every strong, Black father on TV to follow owes him much gratitude. It really is a shame how the narrator of this video butchered the names of the actors, tho.

This video is interesting. However, there are so many inaccuracies through this video. It is important that proper research is done and proper pronunciation is given we’re making reference to the names of these actors and the characters. Also, I think it is very important when mentioning that an actor from Good Times was on another particular show, instead of showing characters from that different show, make it a priority to showcase the actual actor from Good Times on that other show that that you mentioned that they were on instead of the other show’s characters. They should not be priority.

I was hoping a commenter would mention this. Thank you. This video could have been good, the subject was a ground breaking tv show that deserved better from its producers. But this video while choosing a good, interesting and worthy topic was sloppy from start to finish. I think you pointed out most of the inaccuracies. But the one I just couldn't let slide was Esther Rolle's husband of 20 years WAS NOT NBA hall of famer Oscar Robertson but a different person named Oscar Robinson. Two thumbs down to this careless, feeble video 👎👎

Am I the only one hearing this woman who clearly has never watched an episode of Good Times attempt to give us details about the show. She misquotes sayings from the show, pronounces names, and things totally wrong. If you are from that era, or if you've ever watched the show, you would know. She has a lot of good info. I mean, who doesn't want to hear about Good Times but listening to her mess up tells me that she'd never watched it, and it discredits everything she has to say. I mean come on get it together "Dye-no-mite", "1970's", "Janét Dubois" just to name a few things. Maybe she was paid to read a script. Maybe the next video will be better.

That's a bot not a person. Its fed words to say and repeats it. That isn't a human being, so there is no knowledge of pronunciation or names. It reads mostly phonetically. These are cheap made videos to talk about a subject for the video. They probably did another show story after this and it was the same. If they had a person doing the voice over you wouldn't get those mistakes.
